Present Stroman has been pretty ineffective. 4.22 ERA and 3.94 xFIP. It's great that he's going 7+ IP per start, but when they're Cosart level innings with 5 K/9 I'll take 5-6 innings of 2014 Stroman every time.

Especially in this era with specialized bullpens and teams having do many shutdown relievers. No team should need their SP to pitch into the 8th anymore, because every team should have a reliever for that inning who would project to pitch better in that inning, every time.

Im speechless...seriously spechless.

That's because you have no capacity for critical thinking.

Or just regular thinking.

E: Also, just one time I wish when he said "I'm speechless" he'd actually mean it.

It'll prob end up being something like Halladay. Can get the strikeout if needed and eventually in his career be getting 6-8 K's a game anyways

If Stroman becomes like Halladay then we're laughing. They're similar with the GB ability, limiting walks, okay strikeout rate.

Strikeouts do matter. If Stroman can keep his GB% and BB% where it is and striking out 7 or 7.5 per nine he's a very good pitcher. If he's only striking out 5.5-6 per 9 then probably only okay.

Stroman's love for the sinker:

https://sports.vice.com/ca/article/how-discovering-a-sinker-changed-everything-for-marcus-stroman

now we know why he ditched the 4 seamer

""I'm a completely different pitcher than I was for the first 23 and a half years of my life," says Stroman, who must have started pitching at a very tender age. "I was a four-seam guy who had trouble getting to the sixth, seventh, eighth innings. It would be five, six innings, high strikeouts, homers, fly-ball guy. And now I'm the complete opposite."

Now he aims to pitch to contact, and the sinker, when it's working, often induces weak contact. Indeed, in the seven regular-season starts since he came back from knee surgery last September, he has averaged 12 ground-ball outs. In his first start this year, he had 15."

Silly. I'll never understand this mindset of trusting BABIP and defense over variables you can control.

Devon Travis (shoulder) will take live batting practice on the field off a coach for first time Monday. Blue Jays still plan to bring him along slowly.

Shi Davidi

RHP Bo Schultz (hip) to pitch one inning in extended spring game Monday, doing well. Will be reassessed after a few extended spring games

Aaron Loup is throwing at 90 feet on Sunday and is feeling normal.

If this goes much slower they'll be planning his retirement dinner soon. Not that I don't want to see him back 100% healthy, but holy f***...

What exactly are you expecting? The plan was for him to be in the lineup by June, don't see how that's really changed.

Honestly just frustrated at the length of time he's been out the lineup. Last April feels like a very long time ago and the whole situation last year felt like an exercise in futility with the whole 'will he, won't he' play again saga. It's pretty clear at the moment how much we need him.

If the timing is correct his 20 week recovery time is just over now. Guessing another month to get into shape and another few weeks on rehab assignment, the June time table seems about right if he doesn't suffer any more set backs.

Disgusting. Carrera with the Pompey' spot

Smoak not listed as available on the bench on that lineup card. Maybe he's injured? Would somewhat explain the weird lineup.

I think the bottom of the card is just cut off in the picture. Gibbons just likes Carrera for some reason.

You might be right but why leave so much space between Smoak and the other guys? Odd.

Switch hitter. He's always at the very bottom.

Yea there are a fields that have the 2 cells merged below those for switch hitters I'm pretty sure.

Legitimately no one to be excited about. Alford is good but he's not elite. Outside of him...bleh.

Hansel who only ranks at 20 might be the most intriguing name on that list.

Not many teams have a Stroman, Sanchez, Osuna and Travis just graduated though. Pompey isn't technically on the list either even though he's in the minors and still developing.

He hates Guerrero:

The third-base experiment is likely to be short-lived, with first base the long-term end point for his defensive journey. He doesn’t have the arm or dexterity, let alone range, to be of much value anywhere else on the diamond. I think his power is for real, but the tightness and effort it takes to use it hurts more than helps against game pitching. It’s just too big of a leap for me to count on him turning into more than a 45 hit-tool guy, which isn’t enough to get his likely future value to a 40 or better. If everything breaks right, he could be a fringe starting option.
