BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 I'll give you that on Martin, but Tulo hasn't been good at all with the Jays. And I don't believe in all that mental betrayal ******** he was spewing. He wasn't good with Colorado before the trade either. 2014 - 170 wRC+ for Tulo. That's a staggering number for a SS who can play some D. Last year 100. How about 135 wRC+ meet in the middle this year? I don't believe in mental betrayal blah blah either. Its conceivable though that Tulo stays healthy and gets hot and bashes the f*** out of the ball for a few months out of a long season. Lets see what happens.

Could explain a loss of bat speed. He moved back to the toe tap so we will see how it goes.

He's been using the toe-tap since game 1 this season. Not sure why he abandoned the leg kick, he looked great in spring training

But he started off quite well in 2015. Even if he can come back to just an above league avg bat (which I think he will) with his D he has a lot of value with the other offensive capabilities of this team.

I think you guys underestimate how challenging it is to uproot yourself, your family, sell your house and leave a team and city you've been in/with for 7-8 years. Deal with the fact the franchise that built a team around you no longer wants you and then you have to move to a different country, adjust to a new league and teammates all within ONE week....and are expected to perform as well as you always have. I think some do this better than others - but to simply dismiss this in all situations is a little short-sighted.

I cut Tulo that slack last year no problem but it's 2016 - you are making 20 million bucks so earn it. Also he has a no trade now to prevent it happening again I believe.

"how challenging it is to uproot yourself, your family, sell your house and leave a team and city you've been in/with for 7-8 years" Those are valid distractions outside of the ballpark. I can't possibly believe that Tulo is thinking of that during an at bat. Also baseball is one of the less team-dependent sports out there. As a hitter, all Tulo needs to do is see the ball, hit the ball. As a fielder, see the ball, catch the ball. It's different between pitchers/catchers, but even that difference is only in terms of sequencing. I will give you that he has to adjust to the league, but the guy is a vet and I'm sure he's had AB against the seasoned veterans in this league and division. So much show that I expect regression, but not the type we saw with Tulo LY and TY.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 What's torture is as long wait between games when the team isn't going well. If they roll over the Yankees, most people will start feeling really good about this team really quick.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 What's torture for me is if we are losing games where nothing is working. Pitching, offense, bullpen. There isn't anything to be excited about. If we get swept but have one or a combination of 1.) high scoring game 2.) good pitching then I can feel excited. But when the team is flat, I don't care and don't bother watching.

Plus his defense has been great so if it really was about that I don't think it would only effect his hitting. Facing new pitchers is probably the biggest thing but there is video out there. The reality is that he is making a lot less contact on pitches the last 2 years.
