ST is here, and the offseason is almost over. Shapiro took over on November 1st, so the entire offseason has been guided by the new regime. Key moves:

MLB Free Agent Signings

J.A. Happ (3/36)

Marco Estrada (2/26)

Darwin Barney (1/1.05)

Gavin Floyd (1/1 + 1M in incentives)

Josh Thole (1/0.8)

Trades

Liam Hendriks for Jesse Chavez

Ben Revere for Drew Storen with Washington covering difference in salary

Options

Picked up Bautista (1/14) in lieu of 1M buyout

Picked up Encarnacion (1/10) in lieu of 2M buyout

Picked up Dickey (1/12) in lieu of 1M buyout

How would you rate the offseason?

Above average.

Edit: Whoops, there wasn't a poll when I answered... GOOD!

Got solid Depth for pitching which is something it seems we have never f***ing had lol. Not crazy about the Hendriks trade, and we did strengthen our Bullpen. Not much more we can improve on in our offense so we are better then at the start of last season. I would give him a solid B of B+

I voted 'good'. I loved the Estrada and Happ signings. Addressing the rotation before pitching prices spiralled out of control was a great strategy. I also loved the restraint the FO showed. After last year's success, there was no doubt great temptation to continue to feed fan momentum, but they resisted the urge to risk more of the future for short term success.

I'm not yet sold on the Chavez for Hendriks trade. I thought there were other ways to add rotation depth, and losing five years of Hendriks hurts.

I'm also not convinced that trading Revere for Storen helped the team if another OF isn't brought in. If there is an acquisition (Bruce? Jackson?) then I don't think anyone can take issue with the sequence.

I voted mediocre because it was the closest option to average. I liked the direction more than anything. We've got our own guys we need to lock up long term so not adding any big salaries was helpful. I also liked most of the moves (not necessarily the Hendricks trade). But no major improvements happened, we merely patched some holes so hard to grade it higher than that for me.

I can't vote on my phone but I will say a solid B. I would prefer to have more reliable option in LF but considering where we started it couldn't have gone much better. They definitely addressed the depth issue for the most part. Our pen looks like it could be very good.

Only questionable moves were Hendriks/Chavez and tendering Delabar. Otherwise, I thought it was a solid first off-season for the new regime. They added big league and minor league rotation depth without sacrificing a pick or a prospect, and the team in general looks in good position to make a playoff spot (division or WC). I was indifferent on the Bruce trade, but since it didn't happen, I won't include it here. As mentioned I do think they need another OF, and not Dom Brown.

Voted mediocre. Not as happy with the Estrada and Happ signings as others. Hendriks trade wasnt great. Not bad by any means though.

Do you know you wear the thickest rose-colored glasses or are you just oblivious?

You probably shouldn't have bought a David Price jersey.

Still better than the (many) Kawasaki jerseys I saw last year. Hell, I still see Romero and Arencibia jerseys... that's just embarassing.

I voted good. Nothing outstanding but hardly mediocre. "Good" seems the closest to the "shrewd" I was thinking.

Only real sticking point for me is the Chavez-Hendriks swap. If someone else gets the SP5 out of the gate, I don't think one year of swingman Chavez is worth all that Hendriks time. Not that I'm advocating a sunk-cost decision to get Chavez in the rotation over a better candidate, but it's not like this situation wouldn't have been foreseeable. In the FO's defense, the Chavez move was done before the Happ deal. Not sure if they were being negotiated concurrently but Chavez had a clearer path to more innings at the time of the swap.

I'm less ambivalent about Storen-Revere than some, but I'm also (probably foolishly) optimistic that Saunders will be decent. I'm still mostly reserving judgment, but I'm on the optimistic side of the line.

I like the chance on Floyd.

All the other moves seem obvious. Barney getting a MLB deal is meh for me, but if Travis struggles to recover it's probably good depth. You didn't list any minor league moves, but there's a decent amount in the bucket now too, which is good.

It's bad if you still wear it.

I won a couple jerseys in closest to the hole, grabbed the Towers home and Hillenbrand away jerseys, had them in the basement hung on the wall facing out, gave Sil the Towers one.

I voted mediocre but I find that word has a negative connotation that I don't like. My descriptor of choice would be "perfectly cromulent".

Average is a better word then mediocre.

Apparently I'm the only person here who doesn't attach a negative connotation to the word 'mediocre'.
