Meh, I wouldn't even want to come close to that number

With what this team could continue to do if EE and JB stay, I wish they could both sign here for longer. I do think Jose looks after himself well and does deserve a solid contract, but that # is ridiculous.

So, Jose said the 150M was a complete fabrication but he wants 6 years and thinks he's a 30M per year player?

Is he upset because he thinks they lowballed him?

It came out awhile ago that he likely asked for more than 6/150. When asked about the 6/150 his response was simply "that's false".

They didn't low ball. They just said they couldn't do that, I don't think the Blue Jays gave a number.

The report that came out he said "false" because he actually wanted another year at the same AAV.

I think he is pissy because he took a team friendly contract the first time around (which was a risk on Torontos part) but that's his own f***ing fault.

What would you do:

Sign Bautista to 6 years $30 million per ($180m total)

orrrr

Trade straight cash to the Reds for Joey Votto for $179 m (2017 to 2023, buy out exercised)

f*** him, then. I'm kinda thankful that he's tarnishing himself to make it easier to see him go. Have fun playing for the Diamondbacks.

Awesome hitter to watch, but I won't miss Bautista the person one bit.

I liked some aspects. His hatred for the Orioles is great, for example and he seems like a solid teammate. He's just a greedy f***.

Worst person right now.

A) Bautista: Douchebag and stupid demands.

B) Boxy: Stole Lamb from The good Ace.

Boxy, and it isn't even close.

Until anything actually comes out of Jose's mouth. I'm taking these reports with a grain of salt. They may be trusted sources in many regards but a lot of it seems like pure speculation at best.

Greinke turning 32 got way overpaid by a desperate team and it resulted in a 6 year deal. It's hard to fathom Bautista getting what he wants. It's possible some desperate team next offseason would throw 5 years and a lot of money at him though.

Pretty slim FA'S for the position he plays next season. He will get primo coin. 30 AAV, probably.

Maybe something approaching 30M for four years, I guess. Hope it's not Toronto to do it though. I still doubt he'll top $25 AAV.

He's likely to either get hurt or decline noticeable this year anyway, given his age, so it's probably a moot point.

This, I agree with, I hope he mashes when healthy. He's out of line, if true.

Hope he has a monster 2016 and then best of luck to him wherever he goes. I've said before, the Jays got his best years at a bargain. He doesn't owe them anything, and the team doesn't owe him anything. Someone else can pay big money for his decline.

I just wish he kept his mouth shut and didn't make this a story in spring training.

Sam Dyson hits Jose right wrist in ST.

Please Dyson, help us!!

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal was told by a source that the Blue Jays "only might be amenable to a Yoenis Cespedes-type deal" with Jose Bautista.

That means three years and $75 million, which is less than half of what Bautista reportedly requested last month during contract extension negotiations. Bautista might wind up having to settle for something in between given that he's 35, but clearly the two sides have ground to make up if they want to get something done before the slugger reaches free agency next winter. Free agency is also looming for Edwin Encarnacion, and Toronto realistically would probably be lucky to extend one of the two sluggers.

*For all the talk of Jose Bautista's contract demands, the Blue Jays only might be amenable to a Yoenis Cespedes-type deal, according to a major-league source.

Cespedes, 30, signed a three-year, $75 million free-agent contract with a one-year opt-out. Bautista, 35, asked the Jays for more than five years and more than $150 million, but with an average annual value below $30 million, another source said.

Bautista's rationale is that he stays in excellent physical condition, and will remain a potent force into his 40s. Will another club buy that argument? Recent trends suggest no. But Bautista is a unique player, and all he will need is one team to bite.
