Governator Community Moderator Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 Stop the Justin Smoak hate. We really need the season to start.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 Yeah I totally agree with this. The $$$/WAR argument for Bautista is really terrible and I hope no real fans are using that as a basis of their decision of whether to sign him. He's obviously worth quite a bit more than his SABR stats and I hope the team pays him accordingly. How much more is another issue but they should be willing to sign him for a hefty price IMO. Who do you suggest the Jays let go or trade?
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 Who do you suggest the Jays let go or trade? Don't expect a non-fanboy answer. It's too bad Rogers doesn't use the cost method for consolidations instead of that revealing equity method.
Maahfaace Verified Member Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 Jose really took a step back with regards to his posturing with the media earlier in the week in this interview. Lots of "I dont want to speculate" answers. This seems like a mend the fences type of fluff piece. I so want to know what the actual term and dollars of his demand are......we will probably never know.... http://www.tsn.ca/mlb/video/bautista-addresses-his-contract-demands-and-more-in-candid-interview~817975
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 That was a good interview, nice to see the lighter side of Jose. Ironic he did it with TSN. I get the feeling Jose isn't Sportsnet's biggest fan lol. Interesting point he makes around the 10 min mark about some of the reasons why he believes he will age better than most.

It's great to have him, but business are business. Tulo smart is hurting us.

Bautista answered the questions candidly while showing a little more of how his mind works. Besides being very good at baseball he also has a good business mind. Unlike other players he recognizes how age is a negotiating factor even though there are other factors to be considered. What i got from the interview is that he is confident in what he is capable of producing and when asked what he thought would be sufficient to keep him in the fold he gave them his parameters ($ and years). Nowhere did he indicate that it was etched in stone as has been insinuated elsewhere. He does seem very interested in staying with the Jays but being business-wise he will definitely not undervalue his true worth. When I first read some of the other contract-talk stories I felt differently but now what I see is a very intelligent individual who has a lot of baseball talent. It certainly did not come across to me as an attempt at mending fences or a fluff piece. Anyway, thanks for posting this link.
ValiantJaysFan Verified Member Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 Steve Phillips conducted that interview perfectly. He coddled Jose's ego, framed all his questions, got Jose to relax a little then went in for the kill. Thing of beauty.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 This makes me respect Jose even more. Just lay it all out there and now the jays can go ahead and plan for a future without him instead getting into a Chris Bosh situation.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 That was one of the better interviews I've seen on any player in a long time, Bautista's a very smart ballplayer, but he did some serious back-pedalling from his statement on the first day of spring. I really enjoyed that, thanks Maahface for sharing.
SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 It's incredible knowing that English is his second language. He is a very smart guy. It'd be great to have him on the team going forward as a player, coach and ambassador.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 I'm still having a bit of trouble rekindling my fandom with this team, despite Shapiro's excellence. Kicking this dumbass to the curb would help though. Not that anybody cares. I'm thoroughly intrigued by the moves being made, but the passion isn't anywhere close to what I had for the Rays the past 3 years. It's not 1a and 1b like I thought it would be when AA and the Beest were gone.

I get the feeling Jose isn't Sportsnet's biggest fan lol. I see it as a straight out negotiating ploy (but could be hatred as well). I'm betting this is going to be common all year.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 Can you blame him for not wanting to talk to Barry Davis? I don't blame him one bit. He even alluded in his interview the reason he likes to use the player's tribune is because he can tell his entire story and not just answering the media's questions which can be framed in a different context.

Another thing that worried me was that he assumes he will age better than other players. I know you can't be a professional athlete and not think highly of yourself, but actually hearing those things out loud is much different.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 From a Ken Rosenthal story on Tulo: "...Tulowitzki joined in the banter with his teammates, who were alternately baiting Jose Bautista about his contract demands and teasing him about it"

Cyborg Verified Member Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 never read the comments "If you let Jose loose in free agency who will protect Donaldson in the lineup..........all the home runs and RBI's that Jose produces where will those runs come from? I think the age players loose ability is like late 30's but Jose takes care of himself real well. Sign him key player for the Blue Jays" First comment at the top.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Even if you don't know the difference between loose and lose, don't cut your losses and spell them both the same way. Nobody likes mediocre. Swing for the fences little buddy, maybe you'll hit a home run.
Slugger Verified Member Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 I made the mistake of going to Bautista's instagram and looking at the comments of a photo that had nothing to do with baseball. People are f***ing morons and are completely out of touch with reality. 150 mil ur a joke how could u betray us like this? i thought you liked it here? smh
