I just get annoyed when players sign for something and then some posters look at fangraphs and call a certain team's front office retarded. But anyways...

yes for sure they have their own evaluations and some of Bautista's valuable is hard or impossible to quantify. I'd think you'd agree that they should sign him before April so that it is not a distraction during the season. Also it would be quite annoying hearing the media talk about it nonstop.

If you sign him before April you're likely giving in to his absurd demands, potentially crippling the team financially. No thanks.

Signing Bautista prior to 2016 would be foolish. A lot can happen in a season. Waiting it out is the best option, even if it means watching him leave.

Agreed, probably a DH next season.how much would we want to pay him for that?

Well I think at this point it would be hard to sign him before 2016 regardless.

I know, terrible joke.

Yep, which is why what Keith Law said is correct. Shapiro has no pressure now. Everyone knows Bautista's price is ridiculous, and it basically makes moving on from him that much easier for the FO.

It's amazing how effectively his power play was turned around on him.

What makes you think this FO can't wait to lose one of their elite bats. Then again probably they can't wait to sign the Nick Swisher types like they did in Cleveland

not attempting to sign bautista until the offseason also gives Jays a chance to see what alford can do at AA/AAA, perhaps even with the Jays after Sept 1

nothing wrong with paying 2/3 of your OF $500K each

There's a greater chance of Jose being here next year then Alford.

Alford is not a factor in this at all. Maybe Dalton but not a prospect who haven't played at AA yet.

I would really like to try and sign Reddick or Moss next year. Or both.

Reddick was the guy I was looking at as well. Might be a bit undervalued in a FA class with Bautista, Cespedes, and Gomez, though I'm sure it will still cost a bit to get him.

How Alford performs in 2016 is most definitely a factor. He OBP .400 at AA, the Jays don't even consider resigning JB for what it takes.

So putting up a .400 in AA would negate even considering resigning Bautista?

Pompey's 2016 season has more relevance than Alford's, unless you're already assuming Pompey will have a major role 2016/2017.

Of course... Bautista will be 36 going into 2017 season. Think about this rationally. The >$20M that would be due to Bautista can buy a lot of things.

Moss is a pretty awful defender, he needs to rake (and he has before) to provide decent value. I'd be all over Reddick though.

I think they would sign him but it all depends on the price. Giving him $125 million let alone $150 million at this point just doesn't make sense financially when you consider the situation. Once the games start I think the talk will die down a lot. Jose is the type of guy who the media are scared to ask certain questions. They know as well as anyone if they continue to ask him about the contract situation he will make their jobs a lot more difficult.

A lead off type with no power will not replace, or even come close, to replacing what Bautista means to a line up. I like Alford and i hope he becomes the type of player he is in a big way in the MLB, but I'd also like to see Rowdy Tellez take the next step in 2016.

never said he would... w/o Bautista the Jays still have more than enough offence

Oh the douche bag RF is acting like a douche bag? Colour me unsurprised.

I'm still having a bit of trouble rekindling my fandom with this team, despite Shapiro's excellence. Kicking this dumbass to the curb would help though.

Not that anybody cares.

why do you think he has no power?

Yeah I totally agree with this. The $$$/WAR argument for Bautista is really terrible and I hope no real fans are using that as a basis of their decision of whether to sign him. He's obviously worth quite a bit more than his SABR stats and I hope the team pays him accordingly. How much more is another issue but they should be willing to sign him for a hefty price IMO.

Every time you make a post like this a future 70+ grade prospect dies as a child. You're literally ruining baseball.

Agreed. That would be the ideal target if Bautista doesn't come back to reality.

I like Moss because we can use him at 1B/DH if we lose Edwin, and he can cover the corner OF spots in a pinch. Provides a bit of flexibility. Plus he's a lefty bat, not too old, and should come on a relatively fair deal.

I think I like the idea of Coghlan more, but assuming Moss bounces back a bit this year, he seems like a decent fit.

Coghlan has been traded to the A's. They seem set to roll with him in a Zobrist type fashion.
