He was projected to make 20 million next year. It will be impossible to know until the end of the season. Next year would be based on some things that occur this coming season I believe.

I'm thinking it's slightly more. I'm not sure how the arbitration process treats super 2 players (Donaldson) vs. normal three year arb players.

Hes not. the Jays still have the Arb 6 rights but the value of that will be very high now. Short term cost certainty for the Jays while giving Donaldson a high leverage point in 2018.

Still FA after 2018, just means we skip arbitration next year, and would only have to go back in 2018

This likely means he's headed for FA in 2018. I'm sure the Jays weighed singing him to a 6+ year deal now and if the cost was too much now its only going to be worse in 2 years.
