flafson Verified Member Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 How much surplus value did Bautista give the Jays over that 5 year span? Edit: 26.2 WAR over those 5 years = ............. Ummmm, a LOT no matter whose $ per WAR you use It's about 130M surplus according to Fangraphs.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 ^ Was just about to post this Best contract extension EVER I saved some emails on this at the time debating it with a few buds. I was nervous about it after the one big season. We saw big numbers and then big drop offs from quite a few players in the roid era. L Gonzalez and Brady Anderson getting 50 HR come to mind. There were others. I didn't know if that big leg kick swing timing would stick. It was a good deal for both at the time with risks involved. Turned out in hindsight great for us. Another big year in 2016 and Jose is probably our best offensive player ever if he isn't already.

Delgado was here for 11 years altogether (though 2 with limited MLB playing time). Bautista is still 12 WAR short. I really do hope he stays for at least 3 more years.
CHRIS Verified Member Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Boy was that logo and colour scheme terrible.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Boy was that logo and colour scheme terrible. Yep Ricciardi's fault? Or was that even before his time?
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Yep Ricciardi's fault? Or was that even before his time? That was about 2001 or so it came in and boy howdy was that terrible.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 That was about 2001 or so it came in and boy howdy was that terrible. Poor Halladay and Delgado 2 of our top 5 players of all time and the team and logo/uniforms sucked so bad
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 (edited) Just cause I was thinking about it, my top 5 Halladay Alomar Delgado Bautista Stieb (*corrected) Edited February 17, 2016 by G-Snarls

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Just cause I was thinking about it, my top 5 Halladay Alomar Delgado Bautista Steib STIEB! You clearly aren't qualified to make this list
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 STIEB! You clearly aren't qualified to make this list LOL oops
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Just cause I was thinking about it, my top 5 Halladay Alomar Delgado Bautista Stieb (*corrected) Vernon Wells will always hold a place in my heart. Favorite player growing up, and he used to actually be good
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 STIEB! You clearly aren't qualified to make this list Though also, I suspect 90% of Jays fans would have the same 5 in some order
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 One again, the team's all time leader in WAR from a positional player gets no love.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 One again, the team's all time leader in WAR from a positional player gets no love. I loved Tony Fernandez back in the day - you're right, he never got the last respect he probably should Where would you put him? Top 5? Top 10?

BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 I'd bump Alomar out of the top 5 for him. I'd put Manny Lee over Fernandez and Alomar.

Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Vernon Wells will always hold a place in my heart. Favorite player growing up, and he used to actually be good Oh god, his '03 season was magic. Plus he hit that walk-off HR off Rivera a few years later.
Moo3 Verified Member Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 1. Donaldson 2. Olerud 3. Alomar 4. Bautista 5. Halladay
ValiantJaysFan Verified Member Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 That was about 2001 or so it came in and boy howdy was that terrible. 2004, and I think it was Paul Godfrey's fault primarily. I still remember being jacked for the press conference the unveiling and then watching Reed Johnson completely embarrassed modelling it.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 I'd put Manny Lee over Fernandez and Alomar. I hope your kidding. Ya, was kinda bored at the office and thought I might try my first and last attempt at trolling

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Do or do not, there is no try. They don't think it be like it is, but it do
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Just found this, thought it was pretty funny. This is from 2012 when the Jays unveiled the new (current) jerseys. Only one of these players is still on the team.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 1. Donaldson 2. Olerud 3. Alomar 4. Bautista 5. Halladay Too early for Donaldson Also, Jesse Barfield (7 yrs with Jays) and Jose Bautista (7 yrs with Jays) roughly same WAR over the 7 yr period. Like Fernandez, Barfield is seriously underrated.
TilsonBritoFan Verified Member Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Alomar Delgado Bautista Halladay Stieb rounding out the top 10: Fernandez, Barfield, McGriff, Olerud, Wells
Slugger Verified Member Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Yep Ricciardi's fault? Or was that even before his time? Godfrey trying to tap into the younger generation, it was in 2004. Vernon Wells will always hold a place in my heart. Favorite player growing up, and he used to actually be good You say that is if he was bad for majority of his career. He was bad in '07 and '09 and then had a great '10.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 Just found this, thought it was pretty funny. This is from 2012 when the Jays unveiled the new (current) jerseys. Only one of these players is still on the team. This was highly anticipated, brings back memories. It brings me great joy to see JPA was relegated to the ST/warm up gear or whatever it is. So so fitting.
