BallsDeep Verified Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Lol these kind of "reports" only happen with the Jays
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 If there's money for Davis, go after Heyward instead. or Gordon. Or Kenta Maeda. I'm not even sure that Maeda is a better investment, I just really like watching guys like that pitch.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 I think people are f***ing with you Doc. At least I hope they are. Either way, it calls for comic sans.
Effit Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Lol yeah right.. and I'm going to win the lotto this week.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Davis and the Jays makes perfect sense if you think the contract will have value. Well anyone can make sense at the right amount. At worst it puts you in a position to trade from a surplus but what would possibly make us believe that a contract at this point would be good? The Boras m.o. is to drag things out as long as possible to get your price. To think he would just give the Jays a positive value contract in December just seems like fabulation.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Davis and the Jays makes perfect sense if you think the contract will have value. 1B and left handed hitting are both weak points. He's kind of young at 30 and if it's a five year commitment, that's not super dangerous. Two core bats are poised to possibly leave after 2016. Fire Smoakabello into the sun if you can actually sign Davis - who cares. Historic offense! You've convinced me! He's probably worth 6@$23M, even without accounting for inflation. glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 The annual "quote a s***** no name Twitter source" rumor. If the Jays are being brought up, it's pure Boras. This would be the least Shapiro thing possible.
taximan89 Verified Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 With the Red Sox improving markedly this offseason, it would be nice to see Toronto management show they're serious about contending by making a move like this. If we remain idle the rest of the way through, it'll result in a pretty deflated feeling going into the season.

Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 The only thing that would make sense would be if they tried to land on of the 2nd tier starting pitcher and want to trade either JB or EE and have Davis pick up the slack.
fireballW Verified Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 What is your problem bud? If EE is giving the Jays deadlines for contract talks, maybe he cares more about the money. You really don't think he'd take a trade if the team getting him was wanting to offer him a good contract extension? Pretty closed-minded.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 It's a smokescreen for the eventual Heyward signing.
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Well anyone can make sense at the right amount. It's absofruitly fabulation. These rumours are hogwash, no substance at all. Just speaking hypothetically. Davis might be undervalued because of his inconsistencies, strikeouts, drugs, etc etc etc
bendera3 Verified Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 If we have stacks of cash, we should do our best to sign Heyward. Davis should only be a fallback option.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Chris Davis might be the major free agent who makes the least amount of sense here. I don't think so at all. We are weak at 1st so he's a clear upgrade over Smoakabello's combined WAR to WAR and a half for this season. Would also soften the blow of losing Bautista and/or EE next offseason. Davis is a lot younger than those two as well so it might make sense to pay him for his 30-34 year old seasons rather than the mid to late 30 years of Jose and EE. That said the projections don't like him so it does make me nervous.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Yeah there are much better ways to spend $ than on Chris Davis.
AdamLindsMom Verified Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 The best baseball comp for Howard Berger would be Marty York.
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Guys the delta between Chris Davis and Jason Heyward could be well over $100 million, total contract. Heyward's contract might end up being Chris Davis' contract TIMES TWO, END TO END. A contract centipede, if you will. Ass to mouth contracts. It's silly to say that if they can sign Chris then they should just sign Jay. Just silly.

GreekFatAss Verified Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Davis only makes sense if you are moving Edwin for something big and even I think you have to clear out Dickey too.
CHRIS Verified Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 The best baseball comp for Howard Berger would be Marty York. Oh boy, I also dropped a Marty York reference today. So that's two in one day. If he's reading this, he's probably rubbing his hands in glee and shouting: "I'M BACK, BABY!"
tpurewal97 Verified Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Assuming Davis commands 150-160 M for 5-6 years , I'd rather have signed price and filled an actual need. This would be dumb.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Assuming Davis commands 150-160 M for 5-6 years , I'd rather have signed price and filled an actual need. This would be dumb. Well yeah assuming he gets 30M AAV of course it would be stupid. But what if he gets 18-22?
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Davis is asking for $30m per? When did this happen?
skirbs11 Verified Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Makes no sense, we would have to move dickey Edwin Smoak and revere to get enough money to sign him and add some relievers and another SP not much $$$ to play with. Although Shapiro did ask for more money to spend and has some sort of mystery ceiling that may exceed 140M
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 It would make a lot more sense to spend the money on one of the good pitchers that are left imo. Still, Davis could potentially be a 2 to 3 win upgrade in the short term. Our batting lineup would be so absurd even the video games would balk at it.
Cyborg Verified Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Chris Davis might be the major free agent who makes the least amount of sense here. He makes sense IMO depending on the cost.
nonamejays Verified Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 I'd go 6-120 on Davis With him being 29, he will only be Jose's age by the end of the contract. Assuming they age at around the same level, you've basically replaced his bat in the lineup for the next 6 years. That said, you would have to walk away from either EE or Jose if you sign him. Personally, I'd keep EE because of age.
