1B and left handed hitting are both weak points. He's kind of young at 30 and if it's a five year commitment, that's not super dangerous. Two core bats are poised to possibly leave after 2016. Fire Smoakabello into the sun if you can actually sign Davis - who cares.

With the Red Sox improving markedly this offseason, it would be nice to see Toronto management show they're serious about contending by making a move like this. If we remain idle the rest of the way through, it'll result in a pretty deflated feeling going into the season.

The only thing that would make sense would be if they tried to land on of the 2nd tier starting pitcher and want to trade either JB or EE and have Davis pick up the slack.

It's absofruitly fabulation. These rumours are hogwash, no substance at all. Just speaking hypothetically.

I don't think so at all. We are weak at 1st so he's a clear upgrade over Smoakabello's combined WAR to WAR and a half for this season. Would also soften the blow of losing Bautista and/or EE next offseason. Davis is a lot younger than those two as well so it might make sense to pay him for his 30-34 year old seasons rather than the mid to late 30 years of Jose and EE. That said the projections don't like him so it does make me nervous.

It would make a lot more sense to spend the money on one of the good pitchers that are left imo. Still, Davis could potentially be a 2 to 3 win upgrade in the short term. Our batting lineup would be so absurd even the video games would balk at it.

With him being 29, he will only be Jose's age by the end of the contract. Assuming they age at around the same level, you've basically replaced his bat in the lineup for the next 6 years.

 

That said, you would have to walk away from either EE or Jose if you sign him. Personally, I'd keep EE because of age.
