GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 I think is is saying a player is worth what the market dictates for him, in other words capitalism. Its about 7 million more than I thought but he pretty much got what he was projected to get I know what he's saying, but that's not how baseball works. Ryan Howard found someone who'd pay him $125 million. So did Josh Hamilton. That does not make them "worth it."

So did Josh Hamilton. That does not make them "worth it." At the time, they thought they would continue their production. In hindsight, obviously it didn't turn out that way. If David Price injures his elbow and starts throwing mid 80s and then sucks, then it's not worth it. But we're assuming he stays the same David Price he's been his career then declines in production based on the age curve.
leaffie Verified Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 In canadian dollars, the jays would have had to offer him approx. 289million.
crmr Verified Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Don't even start with this s***. They aren't even comparable. Do they call you princess Jonn? I think you're misunderstanding him, what is undoubtedly true is that your comment "he's worth it if someone paid it" could not be more wrong, and is actually typically untrue

Professional Hitter Verified Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 What is the point in him revealing this? I guess he's just talking about the process, etc., but the media and fans are never gonna let this Price stuff go as long as things like this continue to come out. It's pretty annoying. Likely just to take a shot at ownership for not reinvesting in the payroll when they had such an obvious uptick in revenue due to the run (and Price). Maybe he wants to be the next Boras...
baseballsss Verified Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 lol at people arguing with jonn. If the jays offered him 200 mil and rejected it he would bitch that they didn't offer enough..
JaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 I'm assuming his agent said it simply because they might have been dumbfounded that they didn't at least make an offer, any offer. Even if it wasn't enough. Apparently, AA was trying to get a contract put together (or laying the groundwork for one) since August. That might be why he walked. He might have come up with a competitive, or at least a contract that might be appealing (Price still could have followed the money elsewhere), but was more or less blocked by Shapiro's ideas of how the club should be run, or the resources used. http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/toronto-blue-jays-david-price-alex-anthopoulos-lose-gm-cost-team-resign-ace-offer-contract-120215
CJ-Freeway Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Price is def worth 200m+ RIGHT NOW, if that's what the market dictates. However, over the long run is another story.
BeastMode Verified Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Hard to justify paying Price or any top FA that type of money when the payroll is set at $140M. Too bad Rogers Corporation pockets most of the revenue they make off the Blue Jays. They can obviously do as they please and our current payroll is healthy enough to win with, but they are clearly under archiving when it comes to this market and it's potential.
xposbrad Verified Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 That's a large assumption to make. That's the risk you take in signing one of the best pitchers in baseball to a massive contract. These teams have personnel that understand the value a big name signing like David Price brings. Merchandise sales/tv revenue/competitiveness/franchise value etc..
GreekFatAss Verified Member Posted December 7, 2015 Author Posted December 7, 2015 It almost feels like there is a force behind the scenes doing everything to try and dump on Shapiro for anything at all. You know like a disgruntled outgoing president who has lots of relationships around the league with players and owners alike.

AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 According to David Price's agent. He wanted to come back to Toronto. Was shocked not to receive an offer. That's pretty depressing. I love Price, but if the Jays don't want to gamble with a 7-year-contract, no point in sending him an insulting offer. Still, Jays could have called him and explained their position.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 I find all of these comments from Price and his agent to be very unprofessional. Just stirring the pot for no reason.
crmr Verified Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Mark Lowe in discussions with multiple teams, hope the Jays are in on that

Still, Jays could have called him and explained their position. That's probably what they did. Besides, think about it this way? What if the Jays do come in and lowball Price? Then you're playing your cards while some motherf***er like JP Morosi is tweeting out "Price offered 6/120 by the Jays, severe low ball, other FA's potentially balking?" (adding more drama to try and make a clickbait piece) and as a result, theJays screw themselves out of a lot of FA's or have to pay extra in negotiations. Know when to held em, hold em close to the vest if you do, and know when to fold em.
Followthelight Verified Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 LOL come on...Price and his agent are just being diplomatic, the jays could not afford 30 mill a year nor is it a smart move even as good as price is.

If you could just go ahead and sign with an NL West team thats scheduled against us as infrequently as possible that would be great. Mmmk Yeah..."
souvlaki Verified Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 I think the mask is coming off this new regime. No wonder Alex headed for the hills. The payroll parameters are too constraining even if the revenues increased.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Wow, this is right up there with "We got raped." You're that kid that jumped off the bridge when Little Johnny did too, aren't you? suicide joke and rape reference in the same post. Language hurts GD...I expect better from our youth.

BeastMode Verified Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Mark Lowe in discussions with multiple teams, hope the Jays are in on that If the reports are true on our payroll being $140 million, i don't think Lowe fits into the budget unless we trade someone like Revere and create more flexibility to make the potential signing work for ownership.
BeastMode Verified Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Iwakuma gone to the Dodgers per Jim Bowden. He would have fit in beautifully with our team and i foolishly thought he was a realistic option before the off-season started.
