The current rotation is a 3+ win guy, four league average guys, and a 6th starter who could be anywhere from 1-3 wins without surprising anyone. All of this with no contracts longer than three years, no picks given up, and only Hendriks shipped out. This rotation isn't even bad.

That's not the problem. The problem is, it isn't good. This team finally has the offense and needed a real stud pitcher this offseason to follow stroman. Instead they added bottom of the rotation pitchers. You are trying to justify things in your head when you know they don't make sense. The Jays are all in right now, but they are cheaping out on the rotation.

That's the whole point. He is a nice piece and other teams would want him. I'm not going to suggest trading Goins for a solid player lol.

Yeah but for what?

Plenty of assets/ammo left. If we really wanted to deal, there's the OF surplus (Pillar/Pompey/Alford), Osuna, Sanchez, etc to deal from.

Seriously. I'm surprised at the hate this is getting.

The Jays spent 3 seasons gutting nearly every damn prospect they had in their system and still entered this off-season with 3 starters and no depth. I'll take this approach any day of the week over that one. ANd I agree, the rotation isn't even bad.

Anyone who expected a major pitching signing has paid no attention to the way Shapiro does things. I'm sure they touched base on Kuma and Lackey, received no mutual interest, then moved to plans C,D, and E.

SO the way he does things = not winning. Great.

Yup. Responsible mid-tier free agent signings are things, and it's nice to see this team actually use them rather than gut the farm for similar assets.

Wow what a ringing endorsement..lets plan the parade. It's not good either.

He also doesn't win much

Dealing Dickey would really simplify the roster construction. Not having to decide between potentially hurting Russel's production by having him catch Dickey or finding a new caddy would be really nice. I'd love this if the right deal is out there but the teams that need a guy like Dickey are teams just like the Jays.

It wouldn't simplify roster construction. Shipping out a solid #3 starter and trying to replace him with the same type of conventional pitcher simply to make a .2 WAR upgrade over Thole is infinitely stupid and complicated. There are available catchers that can receive a knuckler. Just because we don't have that information doesn't mean they aren't out there.

You could move him to teams like the Tigers who need SP badly or even the White Sox (Sale, Quintana, Rodon, ??). I wonder how much a guy like Avisail Garcia would cost, still young but has put up some brutal numbers. If he sticks to 1B he's an interesting wild card.

Still, dealing Dickey to a team who needs 1 year of pitching depth seems like a good idea. We could be paying for it come July though when any of Estrada/Chavez/Happ become fringe rotation pieces.

What does KC winning a WS have to do with the Jays and their chances of winning the division? KC basically had a free walk-in to the playoffs being in a god awful division and once you're in the playoffs anything can happen. Jays meanwhile will be in a season long battle for the AL East.

I love seeing the Boston fans also crying AL East hardship. Royals were 62-40 against non Central teams last year.

First thing that came to mind was we're dealing Dickey when I heard of this move.

I'm just talking in hypotheticals. I doubt that there's a deal out there that makes it worthwhile. If there was a way to flip Dickey without making the overall roster weaker I'd be all over that but I don't think a deal like that is out there. I just wish it wat. You're arguing with me for nothing because I agree that the kind of deal that's likely out there probably complicates the offseason more than it simplifies it.

I'm delusional to think this team wants to sign one of the top pitchers in the FA market that we traded one of our top prospects for last season? Price has and will be one of the top pitchers in baseball for years to come, and please don't tell me this team didn't have enough money. Rogers can see what a competitive team does to attendance.

You actually expect a more frugal FO to sign a 30 year old pitcher to a 7 year deal? Sure, they might have the money, but f*** me that's a bad way to spend it.

Also, see bolded statement, this is completely wrong. If you think like this then you will be disappointed.

This thread is somewhat unbearable.

It's not David Price...whhhhaaaaaaaa I'm so upset

Terrible strawman argument, has nothing to do with price, it has everything to do with throwing out a patch work budget pitching staff with a team with a legit WS chance. There were way better moves then happ that did not include price.

They don't understand that AA wouldn't have resigned Price. Delusional
