RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 How is Hutch ahead of Chavez? Bc Hutch is better but just unlucky And everyone here told me Shapiro is smart and pays attention to Metrics
CJ-Freeway Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 lol at everyone saying we can't win with that rotation after KC just won a WS Still, the fact that our #3-4-5 starters have a chance of getting lit up every 2-3 outings is cause for concern.
agrushcow Verified Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 JA Happ Pit stats: 63.1 IP 7-2 1.85 ERA / 209 ERA+ / 2.19 FIP 9.8 K/9 1.8 BB/9 That's studly. Lets hope he can carry some of that over. I really wouldn't mind freeing up some salary and moving Dickey and Revere now and re-invest in the starting rotation. Could probably get a couple bullpen arms for those two, and have an additional $14M or so available.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 Still, the fact that our #3-4-5 starters have a chance of getting lit up every 2-3 outings is cause for concern. It's a good thing that we score double digit runs every 2-3 games.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 This makes the Chavez trade even dumber. Assuming Hutch is ahead of him we just traded an elite reliever for a long man What? No matter what label you put on Chavez, he is more valuable than the Australian.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 Still, the fact that our #3-4-5 starters have a chance of getting lit up every 2-3 outings is cause for concern. You could say that about any pitcher. Happ is coming off a great season and projects for a sub-4 FIP, ~2 WAR. Chavez has two consecutive seasons with xFIP under 3.9, also projects for ~2 WAR. Estrada and his perceived ability to beat DIPS is probably the biggest wildcard in the group. Our offense is also elite, if they give up less than 5 runs most games there's still a big chance that we can win many ballgames.

4thOFan Verified Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 lol at everyone saying we can't win with that rotation after KC just won a WS What does KC winning a WS have to do with the Jays and their chances of winning the division? KC basically had a free walk-in to the playoffs being in a god awful division and once you're in the playoffs anything can happen. Jays meanwhile will be in a season long battle for the AL East.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 I guess Osuna is officially a reliever. Don't like that
Followthelight Verified Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 What a joke.....this pitching staff is not good enough for a team that should be contending. JA HAPP? They be trollin.
cusstown Verified Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 Yep. I get the feeling the Jays want to develop their own pitching (ala Cleveland), but since no one is really close from the minors, they are going for cheap fixes to add depth and bide some time. It's going to piss a lot of fans off, though. And that's quite frankly the dumbest thing they can do with the offence that they have. It's absolutely stupid to waste those years to bide time for cheap pitching. Sign aces, draft your cheap pitching then.
Followthelight Verified Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 lol at everyone saying we can't win with that rotation after KC just won a WS The two situations are not the same, and their rotation was great in the post season. We are in the AL east.

Exactly this is the window, 2016...they are going to waste it on a budget pitching staff.
gbill2004 Verified Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 @ShiDavidi: J.A. Happ gets $10m in 2016, $13m 2017 and 2018 in three-year deal with #BlueJays. Get another SP without surrendering picks/prospects
Hipfan Verified Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 I don't hate this, but I really don't love it either. Yep, still need some more depth. Would love to see the Jays carry a $160M payroll, then adding Price would be a no brainer and the team would be fantastic. That being said, I know that's not happening and this is the type of signing I kind of expected them to make. Here's hoping Stroman continues to improve and Hutch finds that grove he had at the end of the 2014 season.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 I guess Osuna is officially a reliever. Don't like that They must be fully sold on the idea that his mechanics aren't good enough to start.

Not every team can trade Cespedes for Porcello then give him $100M.
Maahfaace Verified Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 Ewww to this. Mediocre pitcher jaaaaa happy is
4thOFan Verified Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 Not every team can trade Cespedes for Porcello then give him $100M. Is this supposed to be a shot? The Red Sox will head into the season with a much better team than the Jays and with a much better farm system.

gbill2004 Verified Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 @ShiDavidi: With JA Happ, #BlueJays now at roughly $130m for 2016 if they tender all 10 arb-eligible players. Factor in 0-3 guys and not much $ left.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 Jays fans' tears are delicious
JaysRap Verified Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 If this is it for the rotation, I'm gonna yack.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 Well at the very least it's a deep rotation
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 Last year worked out really well for the Red Sox after all that money spent.
CJ-Freeway Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 You could say that about any pitcher. Happ is coming off a great season and projects for a sub-4 FIP, ~2 WAR. So you have faith that Happ's next 3 seasons will mirror his 2015 one? Curious.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 This signing makes more sense than trading Lind for Estrada last year. Granted that's not saying much... but they got stupid lucky with that deal so maybe lightning strikes twice
