We might see implementation of dynamic ticket pricing. I wonder how that'll play in terms of flex pack holders.

They already had this. Single game tickets against the Yankees/Red Sox are priced as "premium" and cost more money than a weekday game against the White Sox.

You know what I am really looking forward to? Aaron F'ing Sanchez being traded. Gawd Lawd, at last! Sanchez still likely has some value to other teams and MS seems like the type of guy that will trade a replacement level player for a non-replacement level talent.

That was not dynamic pricing lol. All weekend games + red sox/yankees games were like 20% more expensive. If you are looking to make money that is not how you do it.

A game against Oakland on Friday in April is not worth the same as a Saturday in August vs New York.

Dynamic pricing means all games are priced based on the market, supply/demand. So if there are only 10,000 seats left and they are selling quickly the prices will raise.

so like Uber, but for baseball

in a way, yeah. Most sports teams use it now a days including the Raptors so if you want to look at their pricing that is what you could expect. Personally, I hope they keep it the same because its easy to make money selling off the premium games and then going to all the good games for such a low cost.

So Shapiro arrives in office on Monday. How long do you reckon he will take to name a new GM? Meetings are next Sunday and it wouldn't bode well to not have a GM in attendance.

Pretty sure he would just be the acting GM for the time being.

Go look at my post history to find the analysis.

Anybody remotely concerned about Shapiro's drafting record? I mean it's on his scouting team in Cleveland too.

As long as Parker and co. stay, I'm not too concerned.

So in other words, we should expect a good 30% of home games marked up to postseason prices. Super.

So in other words, I'll be going to 5 games this year instead of 10. Either that or cut the hooker budget in half....

Movies are so silly, lol. I remember rolling my eyes during that scene. Rincon, untouchable. Meeting in person to discuss a minor trade.

“What have they won in Cleveland? Have they won a World Series since 1948?” asked one puzzled GM on Thursday. “Have they won anything since Shapiro and Chris Antonetti took over? No, they have never won anything in Cleveland and they will never win anything in Cleveland because they over value prospects in a very dramatic way.

“They are worse to deal with than the Los Angeles Dodgers when every minor leaguer was going to be the NL rookie of the year. Shapiro probably doesn’t like the fact that the Blue Jays went for it because they never go for it.”

Shapiro’s Indians reached the 2007 ALCS, losing to the Red Sox in seven games.

From 2002, Shapiro’s Indians won 74, 68, 80, 93, 78, 96, 81, 65 and 69 wins until he was promoted upstairs.

I like how Mark trusts his support staff - especially the chubby analytical guy...

So you didn't watch the movie

That's gotta be someone like Jack Z.

If the guy doesn't like free agents, and he doesn't like trading prospects (which I agree with this year as we have traded enough away for now), how does he plan on building a pitching staff this year?

Stroman

Dickey

.......

........

Osuna/hutch/Sanchez battle it out for 5th starter.

I'd say trade EE for someone like Starsburg.....won't happen as EE won't waive no trade.

Trade hutch and Sanchez for Carrasco?....won't happen.

Reign Estrada?....maybe.

And if Dickey is our #2 we are in trouble. Heck, Stroman is my favourite player but he shouldn't be our #1.

I find the clearly fictional movie version more honest in a sense than the so called non fiction book. I enjoy the movie a lot. I think the greater creative liberties makes it easier to focus on the emotional truth it's trying to convey whereas the book was less honest about the extend to which it was bending reality into convenient "reads like a novel" narratives. The movie dispenses with reality altogether and that seems to me like a more honest form of entertainment. It's just really just a movie, one that's more about the power of new ideas in general than about baseball specifically.

Let's be clear about what Shapiro said. He said free agency is a bad way to build a team. Not some blanket statement that free agency is bad. I mean really all he's saying is a fairly obvious truth here. It's really hard to be build through free agency. Teams that try to just buy a winner overnight usually fall on their face. That's not the situation the Jays are in. There's no reason to think he wouldn't supplement the team with more free agents. He even specifically said he was in favor of using free agency that way. What will inhibit Shapiro in his spending won't be a line in the sand aversion, it will be the commitments in future payroll already made by AA.

I'd assume he's going to target short term FAs who will provide good value: John Lackey, Jeff Samardzija, Rich Hill, Hisashi Iwakuma, Ian Kennedy, etc.

It's pretty rare to come out on top after giving out a Scherzer contract.

So Shapiro doesn't want long-term free agents.

Nor does he want us to trade blue chippers for premium players.

How does he expect us to compete past 2016?

100% into drafting? Trading away our premium, short-term players for quality prospects?

This does not bode well.

if he doesn't play the FA market the team will not compete in 2016 either. the offence will be good, but there are some huge holes in the pitching staff that can not be filled internally

Agreed - some of you are so critical. I found the movie to be entertaining and a good way to open up the minds of the average baseball fan.
