Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 This seems like an incredibly stupid career move.
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 This seems like an incredibly stupid career move. Was going to post this. He's, at best, third in the baseball ops pecking order down there. Leaving a GM spot because his feelings were hurt and then taking a lesser role somewhere else seems like a terrible set of decisions.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 I'm pretty interested to see how AA fares in this new role. I guess I've never thought of him as a particularly astute scout, but maybe there's some seemingly untapped knowledge in that man's head.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 This seems like an incredibly stupid career move. why? It's not like his skills are diminished. Everyone knows he can get the job done as a GM. Maybe he wants a role that is less demanding for now. It's no different than the Yankees having Chapman as their primarily closer and Miller end up being a set-up man. Just cause he got demoted doesn't mean all other 29 teams don't think he can be a closer anymore.

Also, GMs don't lose jobs because of injuries.

You really think he'll be out of a GM job long? He'll be a GM again and he knows it. If he does go to the Dodgers I bet his next go around with whatever team will be even better then with the Jays.

baseballsss Verified Member Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 You're betting his next team will do better than game 6 of an LCS? I'll take that bet. No. I'm betting on his overall tenure with the Jays. Stupid moves, caring so much about RP, upgrading positions when there were biggers problems ect.
cusstown Verified Member Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 AA fits horribly with Friedman's genius-level acumen, the Dodgers clearly wouldn't hire the fat Greek piece of s*** amirite?
glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 "Andrew, I'm telling you, trading DeLeon, Urias, and Seager for Hanley and Panda makes a lot of sense. Just a suggestion. Think about it. Sincerely, Alex".

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 Watch AA will be all about prospects now. We'll find out it was Rogers and Beeston who wanted to "go all in" and trade every prospect.

Ehjays Verified Member Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 This seems like an incredibly stupid career move. I think the whole thing with AA is that life as a GM took a lot of his time away from his family. His wife was probably going to leave him if he kept up these long hours. so he takes a job that is not as time consuming.

He would have just said that at any of his pressers/interviews and completely diffused the situation. There was literally no downside to him giving that reason. Plus, it took him a while to land somewhere...this must have been his fallback option. All in all, he's probably regretting his resignation big time, the stooge.
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 I love this narrative that AA just worked so much gosh darn harder than everyone else that he burnt out. Like his AGMs were putting in 35-hour weeks and he was pulling all nighters on the reg.

Like his AGMs were putting in 35-hour weeks and he was pulling all nighters on the reg. His AGMs probably worked long hours during the week but its hardly the 24/7 job a GM is. When a GM is at home he is still going to be working the whole time on his phone and you really never have a break. AGMs can go on vacations and that since someone can just fill in for their duties.

Being a salesman (in the plumbing industry, for example) is the same thing. There are many jobs out there that require continuous work outside of work hours. Let's not pretend that being a GM is some sort of unparalleled profession.

Entrepreneurs are basically always on the clock.

Good move Alex. or maybe he realized that the Jays are in for a long battle with mediocrity after this year and that he wasn't going to be able to run it the same way as in the past. AA left while he was perceived to be on top so that he isn't unemployed in 3 years.
