204Jays Verified Member Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 Halloween is fast approaching and nothing out of Blue Jay camp other than "no comment" until yesterday. Beeston was quoted yesterday saying the following: "At some point in time I may be prepared to talk about it. But I think right now I would say I've got nothing to say about it," Beeston said Wednesday in a radio appearance on Sportsnet 590 The Fan. "I just hope it all works out." ... "So is he irreplaceable? No. But I mean is he somebody you'd want to keep? Sure. I mean why wouldn't you? It's like wanting to keep any of your star players." http://www.cbc.ca/sports/baseball/mlb/blue-jays-anthopoulos-beeston-1.3292271 Is anyone else getting the impression there may be an impasse between the Jays and AA that may be irreversible?

No, I'm not getting that sense at all.
204Jays Verified Member Posted October 28, 2015 Author Posted October 28, 2015 Misleading? Per quote: "So is he irreplaceable? No."

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 Obviously Alex isn't irreplaceable. To think he is would be foolish. Do I want him back? Yup. He should be afforded the opportunity to finish what he started. Do I think this franchise would collapse if AA departed? Not at all.
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 Calling him irreplaceable is pretty much the same thing as giving him an extra million dollars during salary negotiations.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 Calling him irreplaceable is pretty much the same thing as giving him an extra million dollars during salary negotiations. It's probably just Beest being sour, since his replacement is imminent and nobody seems the least bit upset to see him go.

I dont get that at all. Imo, Beeston is leaving on his own terms. What does concern me is his reluctance to divulge anything, saying only he'll talk about it some day and that he hopes it works out. To me, that isnt the context or demeanor of someone who sounds positive regarding AA's contract status.
Governator Community Moderator Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 I don't see anything that is quoted as shocking, other than the title the seems misleading without context.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 Should anyone care was Beeston says these days? Thank him for his time, buy him a watch and show him the door.
204Jays Verified Member Posted October 28, 2015 Author Posted October 28, 2015 ^ this! Have to disagree. Obviously no one is "irreplaceable" however look at what AA has done. He's developed a scouting/farm system that has produced sought after talent. That talent has provided young contributing pieces developed internally and the ability to acquire proven veterans (many of which I have trouble believing a typical GM would be able to acquire). Many pundits and GMs were shocked to find JD and Tulo were on the market and praised the deals for acquiring said players. Is his resume perfect? No, but you got to respect his ability to get deals done.

He was living on past glories. Past glories he had very little to do with. The only thing I credit him for is getting rid of the fugly black jays and pushing the turf issue.
Dr Negative Verified Member Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 There aren't any GM openings right now other than Miami which isn't a particularly desirable job.

Slugger Verified Member Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 The only thing I credit him for is getting rid of the fugly black jays and pushing the turf issue. He was pretty crucial in "selling" the club to free agents back in the day. But, you're right. He is living off of past glory.
GreekFatAss Verified Member Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 meh. The media are vultures and are trying to make this into something its not. Anyone remember how they tried to paint Donaldson losing his arb to the Jays as some sort of contention between the two without understanding how the process typically works?
FrozenRopes Verified Member Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 50/50, but who cares? Shapiro is steering this bus now. We just have to wait. AA wasnt anything until this trade deadline and post season. We may have made the post season with Syndergaard, Darnaud etc.

Why would he be upset? Isn't he choosing to leave? He's said for a while that this would be his last year.

xposbrad Verified Member Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 With or without AA this club will move forward. Unloading all your top prospects and doing what AA did probably could have been done by many GMs. The mets are definitely glad they dealt with AA, that's for sure.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 Kind of annoying to see people praising AA for the "ninja" moves in grabbing Price and Tulo. He only had to give up most of the farm's top end, what a ninja master.

C'mon Boxy, it isn't all doom and gloom on his resume, I know the same as you in deets of his past, but a guy can change, he's done a decent job. He rebuilt that farm quickly and moved guys for great assets to win a WS, he came pretty close.
