For first time in our franchise's history, we're going to see a true "baseball guy" take the reigns. This is significant because it speaks to the financial health and appeal of the organization. I'm interested to see what Shapiro can do, as his hiring shows a pretty stable future, particularly when Rogers has seen a 40% increase in profits this quarter. How much that has to do with the Blue Jays success is probably not significant, but a strong ownership is a strong franchise, traditionally.

Shapiro's off-season plate is full and the two biggest issues's he has to deal with are re-hiring or hiring a GM, and upgrading the Skydome's facilities both functionally and aesthetically. The training facilities are dated and need upgrading, medical equipment also needs upgrading, a dirt infield is needed next year and general non-necessary upgrades visually would be a plus. A little make up can go a long way from the Dome looking like a bunker to a semi-reasonable place to watch a ball game.

We're coming off of a division title, an ALCS appearance between the two best teams in the AL and a line up that will be virtually identical. Long gone are the days of Paul Godfrey or Interbrew before him. The organization is as healthy as it's been in two decades, except now a huge portion of the fan-base has been grandfathered in, growing up with the team since they were either in diapers or not born yet, creating that bleed blue mentality.

What are you hopes and expectations for Shapiro?

Does anyone really know how much influence Shapiro will have on the baseball team? I mean, I can't see why a team with Mark Shapiro running it would allow Aaron Sanchez to be on a MLB roster let alone make an appearance in a high leverage spot in an elimination game. I'm not convinced the Blue Jays are set up to be healthy on an annual basis yet.

I hope he and Anthopoulos realize how close they are to becoming the Phillies (1-2 years away if they re-sign both Edwin and Bautista), and start cycling out some of the aging players for younger better ones.

He really wasn't too bad in the post-season overall. I'd like to see him as part of a package to get traded.

The point is, Shapiro is so much more of a baseball mind than Beeston ever was. If you think that's going to tear the franchise down instead of building it, you've got another thing coming. Avoiding the Phillies outcome is also very important.

They aren't stupid. I'm sure they do. Martin and Tulo, although younger, with the $ they eat up could end up also being part of the issue if they can't stay healthy/productive at premium athletic positions.

After 2016, things are going to start becoming dicey. I'm interested to see how they turnover this roster in an attempt to stay competitive in 2017 and beyond.

These are valid points. After 2016 is does get dicey. They're going to have to choose between Edwin and Jose to be frank, and with Edwin being younger and more likely to sign an extension you can bet your bottom dollar they'll keep Edwin.

THe journey of the team here in 2015 somehow reminds me of the 1991 team. The team took a new direction with the roster and made some big trades both on and off season, winning the East only to perform well below their capabilities in the ALCS. Coincidently, a knuckeballer doomed us in the ALCS in both series, lol. Like in 1991-92 period, most of the pieces will remain intact for next year (on offence at least) so I have this feeling that if they add a few proper pieces they'll get over the hump next year and take that next step to the WS.

Sanchez is 23 years old and just pitched in 9 of 11 games without allowing an earned run. If you think this is his fault, you're sorely mistaken.

I can't believe people still need to talk s*** about Sanchez!? What the f***! The guy was our best reliever in our first post season run in 22 years, how bout praising the guy!

This is by far the most "I told you so" message board I've ever seen.

Half this board hates Sanchez so dont expect them to give the guy any credit.

I guarantee you a majority of the board has no such hate for Sanchez. Don't mix your emotions with rationale. He's a good reliever but he's most definitely expandable. I'd very much like for him to get traded so he can properly used by a franchise with no emotional attachment to him.

He's gonna be in the rotation next year, so I don't know what you're talking about.

How much value does sanchez have anyways? A lot of media people rave over his stuff but I guess GMs would be smarter than that.

Our team's health is much better than KC's.. they may have gotten to the World Series, but their future is really dicey after this season, as the core gets expensive and Gordon leaves. And 2017 could be ugly for them.. after that season, their entire offensive core hits free agency. And it's certain all of them will be headed elsewhere.. no way the Royals can afford to keep this roster together being in such a small market.

With how much Sanchez was handed without earning a single thing (a starter role in the bigs, the 8th inning role coming off the DL, etc), I think the GM that values him the most is the one who currently has him. I don't think he'll get as much value as AA wants in a trade, and that means we likely keep him until he Arencibia's his way off the team somehow.

I'm still hoping that one day Sanchez will figure out his command issues enough and also learn a legit secondary pitch that gets consistent swings and misses.

I hate the comparison to the phillies....jose bautista and edwin encarnacion are much more like big papi in terms of their hitting abilities than Ryan Howard. Both those two are going to hit well into their late 30s....Encarnacion rarely strikes out...if he didn't have to play april he might strike out less than 10% of the time.

The phillies had almost no young talent...the Jays have pillar, Stroman, Osuna, Sanchez, Travis.....what the hell did the 2013, 2014, 2015 Phillies have for young talent?

It is going to take the entire off-season to get the smell of smoke, booze and shame out of Beeston's office.

Probably a lot. I think I saw Jeff Sullivan saying over the last 2 years Aaron Sanchez has the lowest opponents OPS among relievers.

Pretty good comp to the recently traded Mike Foltynewicz (him + Rio Ruiz fetched Evan Gattis).

Gattis sucked in 2015 but at the time of the trade he was a league average (ish) bat with a few years of control left. Sanchez could probably fetch something of similar value.

Welp, looks like the Royals will officially be keeping the whole team through 2017 and beyond.
