King Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 I would give a slim outside shot at Jorge Flores getting added to the 40. He probably wouldn't get picked, but I like his chances of added better than Guerrero/Robson/Dragmire.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Be aggressive on Lackey. Could be the best target this team needs both based on cost and return. There will be plenty of lesser options available to sort out the fifth spot. Wonder how Shapiro views character and makeup. Lackey has been questioned for his character in the past and doesn't exactly act like the ideal starter on the mound. Criticizing Umps, teammates on errors etc..

GoJays Verified Member Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 When is the deadline in qualification offers Just finished reading this on MLB trade rumors The Nationals, of course, are among the many clubs facing difficult qualifying offer decisions tomorrow at 4pm CST.
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Anyone catch this awful write up on the Jays offseason from fangraphs? I thought Dave Cameron was supposed to be legit: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/2016-top-50-free-agent-predictions/ "With a bunch of departures from the pitching staff, Mark Shapiro’s primary task this winter is going to be to add some rotation depth. I expect them to re-sign Marco Estrada for $33 million over three years, then add another quality innings eater in Ian Kennedy, though his ability to miss bats will cost a little more: $42 million over the same three year term. I’d also expect them to bring back Dioner Navarro at $10 million over two years, and then do the rest of their work through trades."

venema20 Verified Member Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Cards made qualifying offers to Heyward and Lackey. Heyward was an obvious one, but was hoping Lackey wouldn't get one. Want no part in him if it means giving up a draft pick.

Not a huge Cameron fan but in his defense writing up FA predictions for all 30 is really difficult and an endeavor which he even admits is pretty much worthless as an actual predictive tool.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Jays qualify offer Estrada Great news, 2/2 so far Shapiro.
Hipfan Verified Member Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Great news, 2/2 so far Shapiro. Funny, I got bashed mid-season by speculating that he should get a QO. Here's hoping he declines and they get a pick for him.
baubau Verified Member Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Jays qualify offer Estrada Good good. Now I fully expect Estrada to reject it. If not, aweeeee shite.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 So with Anderson, Iwakuma, Kennedy, Lackey, Shark and Gallardo all receiving QO does that change anyone's willingness to sign one of them? Gallardo I wouldn't sign regardless but the other 5 seem to be decent targets. Edit: With all of these pitchers getting QO have to think Estrada will be more likely to sign it since it really screws his market.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Of course, but it mostly just changed how much $ it is sensible to offer. True. Whats the estimated value of the 26th pick in the draft these days? If Estrada declines it makes it easier to lose the 26th pick I would think

glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 If you're not signing the big dogs and the mid tier guys are unattractive because of the QO, then what's left? Trading is kind of hard to do without a farm system, and the prospects the Jays can trade they probably don't want to. Unless the Padres are willing to do Ross for Sanchez like some posters seem to think.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 So bob mcowon is saying he doesn't believe Payroll will be going up and can possibly be going down a significant amount. McCown isn't the smartest guy when it comes to baseball but still has significant sources inside Rogers. He's also going on a rant calling out Rogers and I have to agree with him. It would be all sorts of stupid to lower payroll right now.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 We already knew payroll wouldn't be going up. No we didn't? We heard it could be around the same, but they haven't decided on the final figure yet apparently.

baubau Verified Member Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 I knew 110% that the Cards would qualify Heyward, but F them still. They're costing us a pick. // dreaming of singing Heyward //
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Signing a guy like Heyward doesn't hinge on whether you have to give up your 2016 pick or not.

Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 I think we will make a trade for a pitcher nobody is talking about (like the Donaldson trade). OAK Sonny Gray STL Lance Lynn ARI Patrick Corbin ARI Randall Delgado ATL Julio Teheran 3 of them are easily attainable, this isn't world breaking, sorry.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 Patrick Corbin would be a great pick up.
Nafro Verified Member Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 The same guy who broke the news of AA leaving has said it will be capped at ~140. Are you sure about that. Shi Davidi broke AA's departure. Rick Westhead or some s*** reported 140 million. Shi Davidi broke news that was imminent and occuring that day. Rick Westhead threw a number out there.
