baubau Verified Member Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 I am actually a little shocked that the Giants passed on the option for Nori Aoki. If Revere is traded, would love him as the 4th OF. Could be a great 1 year deal singing to rebuild his value in a hitter friendly park.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 I wouldn't. It just doesn't align with the team needs right now, and my ideal offseason would involve getting rid of Revere and anointing Pompey the starting LF. So much Revere hate...
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 Yeah man, Sanchez + Revere for Ross should get it done, Genius! I'm very sure of 4 things. 1- The normans are virgins 2- Dinger is black 3- Boxy is asian 4- Shapiro will trade Sanchez

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 This sounds ideal, maybe use him in a package for Ross? GD has Ross valued around $20m so it shouldn't be too pricey, if that's accurate. I think Preller is a terrible GM and there is a reason no one acquired Ross last year. Pretty sure they asked for some ridiculous package with Stroman in it IIRC. So it really don't matter what any of us think a fair deal is if SD doesn't want to trade him.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 Am I the only one who wants to trade for Craig Kimbrel? I'll show myself out.

If we can get a Tirado type prospect back for Revere I'll be very happy. Pompey needs to start this year and hopefully Saunders can be the 4th outfielder at a lower cost. AA traded enough prospects, time we started getting younger.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 So much Revere hate... I have no problem keeping Revere. We need 4 good OFers and Saunders is completely unreliable.

That could be possible, but it could work both ways, hopefully. If he overvalued Kemp maybe he overvalues Sanchez/Revere based on ERA/AVG lol.

baubau Verified Member Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 We don't need him with Saunders and Pompey. Saunders has become a large question mark. I am sure AA would have brought him back, but not sure if Shapiro will. Even if he does come back you start him off in the minors to ensure he can play. Saunders could very well turn out to be Andy Dirks this season. Pompey, while I have great confidence in him, this team needs on contingency plan should he crap the bed. Aoki could provide you 1-2 WAR and cost less than Revere.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 Am I the only one who wants to trade for Craig Kimbrel? I'll show myself out. Seems like resources should be spent elsewhere. Cecil, Hendriks and Osuna look like elite relievers. If you sign a Lowe and get another FA the pen should be fine. Even Loup's peripherals suggest he wasn't so bad. Of course injuries and drop off in performace is really common in relievers but I think you can take that risk if you have 5 very good pen arms.
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 Am I the only one who wants to trade for Craig Kimbrel? I'll show myself out. I mean if he's cheap then sure. Kimbrel Cecil Osuna Hendriks Loup Sanchez is better than the Royals' old Holland-Davis-Herrera pen. The team could fill out it's rotation with guys like Erasmo Ramirez who can only go through an order twice.

And Joeys getting older, if there's a spot we could use the depth it's in the outfield. Also Revere>Pompey for next year for all you prospect whores.

THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 Isn't Thanos pretty new to baseball? Kind of s***** to make fun of him if so. I'm new here, but not new to baseball to be truthful. I am new to sabermetrics and DIPS but I did read the beginners thread here.

Saunders is done as an useful ballplayer. Saludos!!

Being new to that stuff is like being new to baseball because you're learning to look at the game in a different way than you always did. Sometimes the forum is too hard on posters who are open to a more analytical perspective but haven't learned a lot about it yet.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 I don't think Kimbrel would be cheap, per se, but he might cost less than Wisler's perceived value when that trade occured. Maybe Sanchez for Kimbrel straight up?

Maybe Sanchez for Kimbrel straight up? A. J. Preller still alive? Padres cheaper options: Quackenbush, Vincent and Mateo

Maybe Sanchez for Kimbrel straight up? I don't think there is a chance SD would accept that. They could get much better offers from other teams. If Sanchez is in a package have to think Pompey or Alford would have to be included in it. Since SD was so hard to deal with last year I'm not even sure what their MO is for this season.

Maybe Sanchez for Kimbrel straight up? See, AA would probably never even consider that because Sanchez is Stroman's best buddy. I'd probably do it. Grant wouldn't though, FWIW. Because when Sanchez throws strikes he's unhittable. Or, in the slightly altered words of Brian Fantana - "40% of the time, it works every time."

I'm still pretty much of the opinion that Sanchez is going to suck, or at best be mediocre. He has one good pitch, and he frequently can't even command it. But yeah, 4.60 FIP relievers don't grow on trees!

Why do you think that? It's not like the Braves got knocked over with incredible offers. Basically the deal was one good prospect + you eat Kimbrel's contract. I don't see why that would be any different now. There actually aren't very many teams that would be in a position to trade multiple good prospects for a reliever making $10M.

At least look at his numbers as a reliever if you are going to call him a 4.6 FIP reliever.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 A. J. Preller still alive? Padres cheaper options: Quackenbush, Vincent and Mateo I guess the bigger point here is that the Padres suck, and really shouldn't bother keeping an elite closer with a sizeable contract given how good they are likely to be next year.
