This is my take. Nobody is (should) be running in front of JD, Bau, and Eddy anyway so why not put the best OBP guy on the team there that would be Martin or Tulo

Because they're "not comfortable" in the leadoff spot.

I don't even understand why this is a big deal. Would you hit Pillar second? Third? No? Then why argue for him to lead off?

All the idiots who are in favour of this are simply in love with one thing:

"UGG PEELAR FAST STEAL BASE GOOD!!!!!!1"

This article raises a good point.....GM's are using sabermetric's - but this trend is lagging with managers....why? Did they not see how stupid Art Howe looked in Moneyball?

Because Managers are too involved in the game. It's easier to look at things objectively when you're not constantly with the players on the field. Probably.

I don't think it's really surprising. At this point, your average GM is very smart and highly educated. Your average field manager is a former player whose best skills are soft people managing skills. They're not going to be drawn to statistics.

If only Pillar all of a sudden developed patience overnight. It would be really nice to look for a more viable option in LF. Dexter Fowler would be a nice fit but draft pick compensation ruined that. Tulo protecting Edwin would be nice but Pillar should be hitting 8th or 9th.

Hopefully Dan Shulman takes over full time. As long as he does College Hoops I think he will be happy. Blue Jays season doesn't interfere with that.

If Tulo flat out says he doesn't feel comfortable hitting lead-off, then you go with an alternative. Otherwise, he's the logical guy if you want to keep 2-3-4 the same. Batting order matters to some players. If Tulo isn't one of them, then it's a no brainer. Stick him at lead-off and give him the most ABs.

Shake my head with all these idiots saying Sanchez added "20 pounds of muscle".

Gaining 20 pounds is not the same thing as gaining 20 pounds of muscle

He is quoted saying 20 pounds of "muscle" in a couple videos on sportsnet, and Stroman even confirmed it. Tim and Sid then asked Sanchez and he confirmed once again.

Whether he's telling the truth is another story.

There's no chance in hell Sanchez gained 20 pounds of muscle in 3 months. If he thinks that, then he's ignorant.

It certainly sounds unbelievable, in that short of a time span.

Link? I haven't ever heard them say muscle. Just that he gained 20 pounds

It doesn't really matter whether he said he gained 20 lbs of muscle or just 20 lbs because it's just ST drivel equivalent to "best shape of his life and ready for a breakout season."

Thank you, end of discussion really.

Until Travis is healthy

On what planet is Saunders batting lead off?

Mars hopefully. It will be interesting to see if he's actually healthy and for how long he can stay healthy.

If Gibby leads off Pillar then Shatkins are going to put a target on him. If the team is struggling by mid-year Gibby will get the boot, not only because he demonstrably sacrificed the quality of an elite-calibre lineup but because of that ridiculous rolling contract AA gave him.

Gibby's contract is already a minor constriction for the FO, so he'd better do everything he can to reduce his bosses' incentive to get rid of him.

I won't judge him on what he says to the media since as far as I'm concerned it's all contractually obligated fluff anyway, but if he actually hits Pillar first I'd completely agree with a firing. Regardless of how little a manager might matter there's no reason to retain the inefficiency.

I'd rather not stack Saunders/Goins b2b as teams will just bring in a LOOGY. I think I'd go:

Martin

JD

JB

EE

Tulo

Cola

Saunders

Pillar

Goins

lol do you know how tired Martin would be? Catchers cant lead off.

LMAO - you don't think Martin can handle an extra 0.3 at bat/game (or whatever the differential between batting 1st and 5th is)

Why does anyone think Gibbons would bat Pillar leadoff anyways? Did he say something that I missed?

All he has said is that it's a hole, they have options and that he and/or Tulo prefer him further down in the lineup.

The 31-year-old also has a career on-base percentage of .369.

Gibbons says Tulowitzki would likely be open to stepping back into the role in 2016, but feels the veteran might be more comfortable elsewhere.

“Tulo had always told me — and I believe him and I still think he feels this way — he’ll hit wherever we want him to,” he said. “I think he likes it a little bit further down to be honest with you, so we’ll see. But it really is a hole right now.”

I missed this tidbit from the same interview:

In Marcus Stroman, R.A. Dickey, Marco Estrada and J.A. Happ, the Blue Jays have four of the members of 2016′s starting rotation set. Who will man that final spot remains cloudy, but Gibbons did shed some light on the situation Monday.

“We’re going to stretch (Aaron Sanchez) out and see how that all plays out in the spring; decide whether we’re better as a team with him in the rotation or in the bullpen,” the Blue Jays skipper said. “And then of course you have (Drew Hutchison) and you have Jesse Chavez. So there’ll be some good competition.”

So I take from this zero chance Osuna gets a shot at the rotation?!?!

Looks like it.

And Gibby is suggesting Sanchez has the inside track on SP5. I'm rather excited to see how much closer to his ace upside Sanchez can move this year.

This was also said before we acquired Storen, but it seems likely he's back in the pen for at least another season.
