Stoeten dissed me on Twitter for suggesting a Donaldson 7 year contract extension

oh my god he's so dumb

Yeah f*** me, why would we EVER want to lock him up on a pre-inflation contract

My God, he's such a douchecanoe.

And yet you guys interact with him likely knowing exactly what his response will be, just so you can get upset over it?

I don't twitter, if I did, he'd have blocked me 5 minutes in...:P

Not upset. More just amused.

Shapiro is good

. “I’ve got a pretty good track record of who I am as a person and who I am as a leader. So it’s a little strange to all of a sudden go from a guy who was considered to be a nice guy to a guy who’s Darth Vader.”

Donaldson is a pro if I've ever seen one. There's no way in hell he's going to be personally offended over an arbitration dispute.

Also means there's practically no chance he signs a team friendly extension.

Yeah, Donaldson won't be giving any hometown discount. If the Jays sign him, it will be a huge contract.

Either way, it's hard to see a downside. If they lock him up, great. If not, they have him for three more seasons regardless.

Josh will command a $200+ million contract.

signing a player who will play the first year of a 200+ million dollar contact at the age of 33 probably is not the wisest of deals. I would not be surprised if Donaldson is traded next off season though so it won't be the jays making that offer anyways.

Friend of mine who works for Rogers has told me that payroll allocated to the Jays is upwards if US $175 Million for the mlb team budget

What position does your friend have? Unless he's an executive on the board this seems like BS.

Hence my guessed offer, 7-175 in his arb years is immaculate.

Senior Financial Analyst

If only this Senior Financial Analyst hedged against USD instead of spreading BS rumors we might have had that much to play with.

Now that we traded Revere I kind of wished we signed Gentry or Nava. Both signed dirt cheap and can provide some of what Revere took with him. Don't think Junior Lake will cut it and don't get me started on Carerra.

Gentry and Nava signed cheap because they're garbage--both guys played poorly with their respective clubs last season.

You should have stopped reading at "Friend of mine".

It's simply a process, and Donaldson has eluded to that in the past and expected this. There won't be any hard feelings when he's awarded 12 million, regardless.

I simply cannot agree. Arbitration, as Davidi said on the Fan this morning, is a potentially nasty process and to possibly take on Donaldson and his representatives in a formal adversarial hearing two years in a row, especially after he just won the AL MVP, over $450,000 is a PR disaster and runs the very real risk of alienating the player from the organization.

I have sat in and been formally trained in arbitration (not related to sports I admit) and they are usually ugly affairs and often a point of last resort to avoid court proceedings after mediation has failed.

You could be right, I'm just parroting what JD said after last years arb, and prior to this one.
