Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 i wouldn't give up on a 23 yr old with an elite fastball and improving control, and i'm sure the Jays FO hasn't either. a 3rd pitch and he's at least a solid MLB starter
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 Interesting that Hernandez gets 1.25 Million and up to 2 Million total with incentives if he makes the team. Opt out on March 28. Wonder if they'll put him in the bullpen and see if the stuff players a bit better. He's always had a substantial platoon split so might be better in the pen. Ah I see, he has an opt out. Perhaps he could be the long man.

He just has to be used properly until or if he gains better command. A 3rd pitch might help but his BB/K rate is about more than that. As a starter he just put too many guys on base and was constantly flirting with inevitable disaster.

Hey. I hope you are right and it happens. I'm just not that confident. He had stretches in the pen where he lost a lot of movement when his command and/or control kept leaving the ball up in the zone and giving up hard contact.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 This is probably in another thread but Mexico has asked for Estrada, Osuna and A.A. Ron Sanchez to play in the WBC qualifier in March
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 Sanchez? I mean I knew he had a taco name but that's still surprising.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 Sanchez? I mean I knew he had a taco name but that's still surprising. Does Sanchez even know whether or not his birth father is Mexican? How did team Mexico find out? That's a weird one to say the least. http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/report-team-mexico-wants-three-blue-jays-for-wbc-qualifier/
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 Eligibility for the WBC is extremely loose. I think to play for team Italy you just need to like pasta and not be allergic to olive oil

DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 Has anyone given thought to adding Profar as a buy low depth guy? I've been infatuated with him for a long time and see a chance to take a chance on him. Obviously, he'd bump Goins as the primary backup MIF'er but I'm quite alright with that and keeping Goins as some kind of defensive replacement and depth guy for when injuries hit. Anyone have a sense of what it would take? I know Texas has been looking at OF'ers all off-season and the Jays have a few attractive ones.

DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 Texas wouldn't move him now. There was a report earlier today that they've been talking to teams about him. No deal was made so I don't think they're too motivated to make something happen but by all accounts they're listening which is why I brought it up.

They want to move Andrus, where did that report come from? He'd be expensive, they wouldn't move him if the price is low as you think.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 Just read the report, they aren't moving him, teams are calling on him.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 Last night I dream Aaron Sanchez was 12-2 at the all star break with a sub 2 era and was going to start for the American League
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 Just read the report, they aren't moving him, teams are calling on him. I believe it was Jon Heyman who came out with the report today but there have been others throughout the off-season. As you had said it seems like they'd prefer to move Andrus. That being said if they're listening there is a chance he gets moved.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 according to Bob's sources, Lebron James was going to come to Toronto as well. And payroll was going to be "significantly down" this year a mere month and a half ago lol
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 I'd trust a bum on the street before I trust McCown's "sources".
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 McCown s*** talks to much, I hope he's right here. An extra 5 million would be excepted if that's there number.
SAAviour Verified Member Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 What are we at now, $135. 10 mil to spend? My new boi Shapiro is playing this well, wait for it then sign a couple bargain bin free agents. There already seems to be too many free agents and not enoug teams with money to spend on them.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 ^ I think Shapiro is done. If you consider the minor free agents he signed probably have been promised around $2Mil each if they make the team, that brings up to $140. He doesn't seem to be the type if guy who is going to max out at the start of the year. The bullpen right now is Chavez Delabar Loup Cecil Sanchez Osuna Whoever makes it from the minor deals That is not a very good pen. It has 1 elite reliever and 1 good closer but that's about it. Sanchez was getting exposed in the playoffs and the more he pitches the more he is going to get hit. They really needed to resign Lowe instead of giving the money to Smoak and Saunders. Adding Lowe would have given us a better late inning option that Sanchez plus the possibility of having Osuna compete for the 5th rotation spot. Maybe the plan is to move Revere now but I can't see a team trading a good reliever for him especially considering how over valued pitching is in the FA market. I see him possibly moving Revere for a B prospect then using the money to sign from what's left. They should really sign another late inning arm and see if Osuna can start.
SAAviour Verified Member Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Didn't Sanchez give up no runs in the playoffs? Or was that just a dream I recently had?
TBJ12 Verified Member Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 He gave up the go ahead run in game 6 of the ALCS if im not mistaken.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Last year this time the board elite was calling Sanchez a bust, a gas-can. This year, they say he's a valuable reliever or 6th on the SP depth chart. Me, I still say he figures it out and becomes a top flight SP by the time he is 26 (that's 3 years from now, btw)
Governator Community Moderator Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Me, I still say he figures it out and becomes a top flight SP by the time he is 26 (that's 3 years from now, btw) Just at the time when he becomes a free agent? Perfect.

So Hutch is making the team as the 5th SP? I think you're more likely to see Cecil, Osuna, Sanchez and Delabar get the high leverage innings. Loup, Schultz, Biagini, and Tepera round it out. That's pretty good. Let's also remember that Osuna is not in the competition for a starting job. He threw a career high 69IP last year and needs to build a lot of innings before moving to the rotation.
