Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 I want Bautista to finish his career as a Jay and be elite for the next 5-6 years and then get elected into the hall of fame. Great idea, Robert.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 Sanchez looks like he's sloshed. Deer in the headlight look He looks like that when he pitches too
Farm Verified Member Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 Time to pivot to Justin Upton. Young black outfielders are the new market inefficiency. Or was it young white center fielders with plus defense?
Effit Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 I would put Donaldson on the hot list, despite the sometimes questionable fashion sense and absurd hair.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/where-the-cubs-go-with-jorge-soler/ Has there been any open discussions on the merits of trading Pillar+ for Soler and rolling with Soler/Pompey/Bautista? Soler would help replace the power if/when Jose or EE leave after next year and it frees up a spot for Pompey to excel. Revere stays on as the 4th OFer and as insurance encase Pompey can't hack it. Would you do it?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 Why would the Cubs do that? lol
Cyborg Verified Member Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 Why would the Cubs do that? lol Why wouldn't they? Soler suxxxx. I wouldn't do that trade.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 Why wouldn't they? Soler suxxxx. I wouldn't do that trade. He has enough market value to be dealt for a good pitcher, though. Someone will buy in on the youth and ceiling. But yeah he sux.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 Soler+ for Pillar maybe, but probably not. We have a controllable 4 war center fielder making peanuts and people want to trade him.
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 Why would the Cubs do that? lol There is much buzz that they will look to trade Soler for a pure CF, allowing them to plop the new guy in RF. Most of the shine is off Soler. He looks like a hacker and a half. Those 60 hit / 65 power dreams don't seem likely anymore. I certainly wouldn't want to move Pillar for him.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 I wouldn't deal him for Pillar either. I think it's a situation where both teams say no.
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 I wouldn't deal him for Pillar either. I think it's a situation where both teams say no. I think the Cubs would accept, unless they already have some big fish on the line for Soler+.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 Soler+ for Pillar maybe, but probably not. We have a controllable 4 war center fielder making peanuts and people want to trade him. 1. because essentially nobody expects Pillar to put up another 4 WAR season ever again. 2. because Soler is 23 and under contract until 2020. 3. because Soler was ranked (by BA) as the #12 prospect last year between Syndergaard and Sano and was one of the 3 best batters in the minors in 2014. I love Pillar (can't help but root for him), but think I'd roll the dice - Soler was a beast in the minors. His K%'s were high, but not nearly as high as they were in what was a disappointing 2015 season. He also walked a fair share in the minors with BB% well over 10%. He has Puig/J.Upton potential with the bat (and hopefully without the baggage). I think if you're given the perfect storm (as the article says, they are looking to upgrade and find a pure CFer) and can sell high on Pillar to land someone with the upside of Soler - you do it...especially when you have a replacement in Pompey... Nevertheless - interesting discussion. I can only FAP to Travis's GF for so long.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 Soler is also a huge injury risk. No ty.
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 And as a small factor, Soler is more expensive.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 16, 2015 Author Posted December 16, 2015 Jeff Francis has retired.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 Jeff Francis has retired. IIRC, he was left off both Blue Jays playoff roster despite their being a clear need for a LHP and/or long man. Hard to feel great about where your career is going after that.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 Todd Fraizer going to the White Sox in a 3 way deal involving the Dodgers apparently per Heyman
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 Todd Fraizer going to the White Sox in a 3 way deal involving the Dodgers apparently per Heyman I expect this to be heavily lopsided in LA's favour.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 Jays get Brad Penny on a minor league deal. Last year's Jeff Francis?
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 I'd love for us to get Medina, who was just DFA'd.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 Penny has one of those deals where he can f*** off if he doesn't make the team out of spring training. I wouldn't really want him to make the team so whatever.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 18, 2015 Author Posted December 18, 2015 Jays get Brad Penny on a minor league deal. Holy f***. I love Brad Penny.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 Holy f***. I love Brad Penny. Really? Why? He suxxx?
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 18, 2015 Author Posted December 18, 2015 Really? Why? He suxxx? Yes, he does. It's completely irrational. I think I used to dominate with him in like MLB 2001 or something and have always had a soft spot for him.
