I don't think they did either but it makes no sense to trade him and then pay Mark Lowe 5-6 Million per season. People say releivers are risky well Mark Lowe comes with extreme risk compared to Hendriks. Last year was his first good year in like 5+ seasons.

I was advocating signing Lowe this offseason but there would be no point to trade away Hendriks to pay Chavez 4.7 then replace Hendriks with a releiver making 6 million. You would effectively be paying what Chavez provides for $10.7 Million. You may as well just kept Hendriks and the 4 years of control and signed a swing starter like Blanton for like 6 or 7.

I think management is placing a lot of weight, right or wrong, on the intangibles Chavez brings as both a teammate and a "pitching coach". It was focused on, primarily, in this podcast.

Interesting that the As beat writer and BNS and AZ all led on that Lawrie is not liked by his teammates and was a problem in the clubhouse.

Only teammate that has loved Lawrie is JPA lol.

I'm not that surprised, he's always struck me as an impulsive, immature, douche.

Don't forget Lindy, brah!!!

to be fair, lindy was a pretty laid back guy who probably didn't have a problem with anyone....and he put up a 2.2 WAR on a 7.5 mil contract in 149 games playing everyday against righties and lefties....old Lindy had himself a nice little season....but Estrade was nails for us.

Dipoto is trading away guys who he has no attachment to. Drew+ ? Anybody for or against Walker?

Yeah, that's not happening.

Yeah, that's not happening.

It would take A LOT to get Walker, I don't know if the Jays even have what it takes. To me he is on the verge of becoming something special after turning the corner early last season.

Dipoto LOVES Walker, brought him up multiple times in his early interviews with the M's. M's need pitching too, trading him would have to be for a big haul.

Yeah, it isn't happening, he's pencilled in as their #3 at worst.

I have some trouble seeing any starter without a changeup thriving. Games where the curve (his only true off speed pitch) is working he'll be great. When it's not...it'll likely be ugly. He's going to have to improve the splitter or throw the curve more IMO.

Jeff Samardzija, Gerrit Cole, Garrett Richards. Chris Archer and Jake Arrieta could probably also get away without their crappy changeups that they barely throw.

Arrieta was throwing his more at the end of the season, it's getting better. That man could be even scarier.

So from the sounds of it, we're pretty set in the rotation. Would like a couple more SPs for depth so we're something like 8 deep.

But the focus is definitely on the bullpen now. I think we need at least a righty and a lefty. Revere could also be a trade chip for one.

In the market our options look like:

Righties:

- Darren O'Day: Not crazy about the clubhouse fit or the term he'll likely command, but top reliever on the market.

- Ryan Madson: Already linked to him. Don't like him at 3 years tho.

- Joakim Soria: This is who I want. Closer experience, could make our bullpen special. Fangraphs has him at 7M AAV and moving Revere would cover that salary.

- Seung-hwan Oh: The Korean Rivera. Could be a shrewd move to bolster the pen.

- Tim Lincecum: Cheap, short term option with lots of experience.

- Trevor Cahill: Pitched well in a move to the pen. Cheap option.

- Mark Lowe: Good fallback option who is familiar with us. Not my first choice.

- Joe Blanton: Could be SP depth and a bullpen piece.

- Ross Ohlendorf: Dirt cheap, bullpen depth

- Chad Qualls: Cheap, high GB rate.

- Carlos Villanueva: Reunion!

- Tommy Hunter: Good depth option

- Burke Bandenhop: High GB rate, would be decent with our defense.

Lefties:

- Tony Sipp: Really want him. Need another lefty bad.

- Matt Thornton: Need a lefty that isn't Loup. Cheap 1 year guy.

- Oliver Perez: Power lefty. Not great but depth.

Honestly there's a lot of righties I'd like. I'd want one of Sipp or Soria as the marquee piece. Then add like 2-3 lower level guys to really beef it up.

LR: ?

MR: Sanchez, Sipp, Delabar

SU: Soria, Cecil

CP: Osuna

Any guys I'm missing? Any guys that are must avoid? That bullpen to me would be incredible. Trade Revere frees up $7M. That covers Soria. Sipp at $4-5M. Then cheap long man and that will be most of our money. Could even move Sanchez to the rotation or AAA. Same with Osuna. Lots of flexibility.
