When is Devon Travis expected back? I was browsing Fangraphs projections for next year and noticed he is only projected to have 175 PAs? They are also projecting that Ryan Goins leads the team, tied with Donaldson, for PAs. Yes Ryan Goins is going to bat more than Joey Batflip, Martin, Edwing, Tulo, Pillar, etc.

If that's the case another bench INF is critical.

Projections aren't really designed to predict playing time. Later on in the offseason Fangraphs will have team depth charts properly updated and at that point you can kind of sort of see projected playing time on those pages, but right now you can ignore what Steamer thinks for PA and IP. The current Fangraphs depth charts aren't really curated - more of an artifact from 2015.

If you use Steamer600 right now it scales everyone to 600 PA / 200 IP / 65 IP (for relievers). It's much more useful for comparisons.

Travis' recovery time window bleeds into spring training so it's possible that he won't quite be ready to break camp with the team.

They probably do need someone else on the roster than can man an IF position since Travis and Tulo are both big injury risks and Goins can't hit.

Kelly Johnson is increasingly attractive to me.

- 2B depth

- LF depth (makes a Revere deal easier)

- Has even played some 1B and 3B recently, so has a lot of positional utility

- Lefty with some pop

- Skills don't seem to have eroded

- actually has some upside; could catch a power upswing

- cheap as f***

I think he would make the roster much more robust.

We should also sign Morrow.

Then we'd have the Jays of old: Chavez, Morrow, Johnson and Happ. Back to the halcyon days.

Travis is expected back mid March I believe. Probably not ready for opening day.

So who gets non-tendered tomorrow? Delabar, Thole, and Smoak? Maybe Saunders too?

It'll be interesting to see, they can try and get a bat or two back for cheap. Delabar doesn't seem to like our org, so he'll be gone, same as Thole.

I think they can save like 1.2M by just non-tendering Thole and bringing him back at league min if they want him. Delabar just sucks, and anything he makes over the min is wasted money. Saunders and Smoak are the really interesting cases.

Delabar and Thole for sure. (they may resign Thole though) Smoak and Saunders will be much more interesting, and possibly even Revere.

Thole will come back on a ST invite, we need that RA insurance, I'm still hung up on the Jays getting Kratz to come on a similar deal.

Thole wouldn't have a job if it wasn't for the Jays organization having Dickey, so just non-tender him and bring him back for the minimum. If he doesn't take it and decides to go elsewhere, good luck to him.

I'm fine with a Smoak/Cola platoon at first, and Smoak is movable if the Jays find a better 1B option.

Saunders will be interesting. I'd non tender him and try to bring him back on a cheap deal like the Jays did with Smoak last year, but I'm sure a team like the Royals who need OF's will be more intriguing for him if he's going to sign a cheap deal with someone. It's a risk either way, but I don't like Saunders for $3m coming off the injury he had.

I'm not so sure I want to guarantee a roster spot to Smoak going forward. Pretty overrated on both sides of the ball and not a defensively versatile bench player. I'd probably go a different direction with my roster construction.

I think Smoak is worth 2 million, the others I would release

I think he's worth it, but I'd like more roster flexibility. Colabello showed above average D at first, so I'm more comfortable with him there now.

I don't think Smoak, Colabello, and Edwin on the same roster makes sense. And seeing as Smoak costs 1.5M more than Cola, I'd non-tender Smoak.

I'd non tender Smoak. I was a big fan of his all year but have converted. He's pretty redundant on this roster.

I'd like to think that even if non tendered, Saunders could be brought back. He was obviously excited to be a Blue Jay after the trade, and this might be a situation where a player takes a discount just to stay within the org.

Trade Dickey + Hutch + Thole for relief help + prospects

Put Chavez in long relief / spot starter role

Sign Mike Leake/Hishashi Iwakuma 4 years 70M

Re-Sign Mark Lowe 2 years 11M

Sign Ryan Madson 2 years 10M

SP :

1) Stroman

2) Leake/Iwakuma

3) Estrada

4) Happ

5) Sanchez

RP :

Chavez

Loup

Schultz

Cecil

Lowe

Madson

(Dickey Trade)

Osuna

After recent moves from other teams i am on the sort of the same wave length.

I think Hutchinsons time here has come and gone and Dickey cap wise makes no sense to me. Moving them and possibly returning some bullpen help would be huge. Then if Clevland is still needing OF help and willing to move Carrasaco I would try to center a deal around Revere and any prospect basically other than Pompey to get the deal done. Carrasaco I think has 3-4 years left on his deal at around 10M per. Use the saved $$$ to sign Leake and Madson and I think outr pitching will be better off. I would also non tender Saunders and bring him back a bit cheaper.

Carrasaco, Stroman, Happ, Estrada and Leake......Chavez Loup Schultz Cecil Madson Sanchez Osuna, plus the help from trading Dickey and Hutchinson....Any Injuries to the rotation and Chavez and fill the hole

If no Carrasaco deal I think we still look to move Revere and his 6.7M and try and sign another pitcher, Gallardo, Samardjiza, or someone in that range.
