Trouba95 Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Hell no. Why would we even consider that? Here we go...
Cyborg Verified Member Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Chavez is good. He only has one year of control though. Sanchez could fetch more.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Your saying that you wouldn't consider trading a relief pitcher with s*** peripherals for an above average starter? No, that's not what I'm saying. Ignoring his potential for now, I wouldn't trade a 23 year old reliever with very good peripherals in relief and 5 years of control for an average starter with 1 year of control and a salary of roughly 5 million. Now let's be truthful about what we have with Sanchez. Batters are hitting .149/.221/.191 against him and he has a K/BB ratio of almost 3 in two years of relief. Only 4 relievers in the past 20 years (min 60 IP) have a higher GB%. He's a real weapon out of the pen any way you slice it. Those types of pitchers don't grow on trees. I like Chavez and I already brought up trading for him in another thread today, but your personal biases are resulting in a pretty stupid trade proposal.

A 3.33 xFIP as a reliever is good, however, it's not anything elite, if Chavez came with an extension, there's no way you don't consider this trade.

Relative to most, I hate Sanchez and I really like Chavez, but I still wouldn't do that trade. And contrary to what Anthopoulos thought during the Dickey negotiations, the possibility of someone coming with an extension shouldn't really increase their value. Revere + a bit of money for Chavez!

I don't think it's wise to rely completely on xFIP in the case of elite groundball relievers. Look at xFIP-ERA for the top 5 groundball guys above Sanchez that I referenced earlier. Zach Britton: 0.59 Dennis Springer: 1.53 Jonny Venters: 0.75 Sam Dyson: 0.40 Brad Ziegler: 1.05 The first guy I always think of for groundballs is Chad Bradford, his is 0.49 I don't know if there has been a study, but there is a clear trend all the way down the list. This difference will only be exacerbated for Sanchez with the slow turf and excellent infield D.

A,s might be the only fit for Revere but how much money would we have to eat. Does Revere have any value at say 4 million? i don,t mind Revere on this roster with all the power elsewhere in our lineup but I like the 6 + mil and Pompey a hell of a lot better. I have no idea how Shapiro can fill out the pitching staff with only 20 mil to spend and a gutted minors. Does anyone see another fit for Revere.

Lots of teams need an outfielder.

Revere should have a bit of value even if Toronto doesn't eat money. Not massive value, but if he were a free agent this offseason he'd certainly get more than the roughly 16 million that he'll make over the next two years. But with Oakland being so poor and Revere likely earning a couple million more than Chavez in 2016, Toronto would probably be asked to at least eat the salary difference in 2016.

GoJays Verified Member Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Indians, Padres, among others. Lots of teams need an outfielder. If Shapiro can get a pitcher for Revere and free up the 6 million it would just make our chances of building a pitching staff much easier. I don't see this team going far in any playoff with Stroman and a bunch of 4/5 starters. I firmly believe Sanchez should be in AAA learning to pitch.

If I had to guess, they will ask us for prospects. Tellez, Cole, DSJ, Burns, guys like that.
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 If I had to guess, they will ask us for prospects. Tellez, Cole, DSJ, Burns, guys like that. Yeah most likely. If Revere-Chavez were to happen, it would probably happen later in the offseason. Oakland wouldn't really want him unless spring is around the corner and they still aren't happy with their OF depth, and they haven't received an attractive offer yet for Chavez. Not a lot of teams in this day and age will be targeting a player like Ben Revere this early in the offseason.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Not a lot of teams in this day and age will be targeting a player like Ben Revere this early in the offseason. Nope. We saw what he was worth at the trade deadline and it wasn't very much.

If it is a below market value extension I would disagree. In dickey's situation whoever traded for him was going to be able to sign him for 2/25 so that would of factored into the deal. Its not like you are trading for 1 year of Chapman and then him signing a 4/55 extension.

Laika Community Moderator Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Darren O'Day wants a four year deal in the 30M range. I'd do it. The guy is basically a 2-win player.
Smokingjays1111 Verified Member Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 You guys are worried about the budget Shapiro has to work with? I saw one post where it was 20 million ( not a chance) I believe they have more to work with than you guys think , and bringing in a Greinke or shark is a real possibility , Rogers would be fools not to capitalize on what transpired last year
Smokingjays1111 Verified Member Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Shapiro will have money to spend in his first offseason get real !

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 good luck with Bautista on the team lol They may hate each other, but I think they can both respect that they are passionate, good baseball players. Bygones are quickly put aside.
