I think they'll still be able to get some good prospects. Votto is a top 5 hitter in all of baseball and even with the contract some team will give up a premium just to get the bat.

What do you think Votto would cost us if we ate all of the contract?

Honestly have no idea but if I had to guess maybe Alford, Sanchez and a lower level prospect with upside? Not really sure what Cincy is looking for and if they were willing to include cash. Even though I'd love Votto on the team I think the cost will be too much.

So now, if we signed Leake and Shark and traded for Chapman (there are whole articles written about this possibility), I think we can still stay right around $140M with back loaded contracted. Leake and Shark aren't aces, but they can be solid 2-3's. And with Stroman, Dickey and Estrada, we'd be set for a while.

I think we really need Shark.

He has fewer innings on his arm than many pitchers his age. He's coming off a poor season, which means lower AAV over the term of his contract, plus he doesn't have any health issues. We lose a pick, but worth the risk.

Still not sure why we didn't qualify Buehrle, now someone can get him for nothing so to speak!

I am going to retire, removed the pick and now he is home free!

I think he pitches next year!

Probably because paying Buehrle ~$16 million next season would be a horrendous waste of money.

Not when you need pitching and if he rebounds, veterin !

Yes cause he is not worth 4 mill more then dickey even less if you factor in his pet monkey and his roster spot!

And only 3 mill more then what we just signed!!!

Yup I see your logic there! Lol

Plus if he rejected it you get a pick!

Not sure anyone picks him up with a pick attached, so either you sign him cheap or what he has to sit out till what the middle of the season!

Dickey got stronger as the year progressed, Buehrle fell off a cliff and seemed to have injury issues all the way until the end of the season. If he accepted the QO we'd be kinda f***ed. Buehrle also wants to play somewhere closer to home, I doubt he'd want to go through the grind again if it's in Toronto...

So then he would have rejected and we get a pick when he signed elsewhere! Hmmmmmmm

Why would he reject it? He almost retired this year so he would be looking for a 1 year contract. No one is going to pay him more than 15.8 million and give up a pick... he knows that.

Exactly why the faked retirement thing as he never said it, where?

True but they may pay him 2 at 13.... Lol

But not with a pick attached!

Also please read the above regarding money on him or for him, Thank you! :)

So the Padres rebuilding and looking to shed payroll or what are they doing?

I think they just figure they suck so why spend 20 million on two relievers for this season. Traded them for what they could and probably now have some money to make some other moves.

Assuming Osuna doesn't start bullpen right now is

Osuna

Sanchez

Cecil

Hendrik's

Schultz

What we need here is one Lefty specialist and one late inning reliever preferably Lowe

I'm comfortable going forward with Loup as the second lefty and you should be too. His peripherals were off the charts good. There's a reason relievers are so volatile and it's because luck plays such a huge role.

I don't trust Loup late in games but yes he is fine assuming there is still an added late inning reliever

John Lamb should be a guy the Jays should be targeting. As a starter or reliever

That's a weird target. Why would he be available and why would you want him?

Good strikeout and decent walk rates. Had good peripherals but era was trash because of babip and a terrible hr/fb rate. Failed former top prospect for Royals in a old school leaning organization (reds). I think he's an good buy low guy. Dwight Smith jr + another c prospect for him then call it a day.

Cliff Lee, Rich Hill, Brandon Morrow, etc, etc,...

I would not mind Rich Hill on a one year say 5 mil deal. However from what I read a lot of teams are interested in him.

The thing is Any pitcher looking to rebuild their values is not going to want to pitch in the AL East

Worked for Estrada though, not that he had a choice.
