I'm sure happy the Jays didn't dismiss September as an "outliner" when Joey Bats made adjustments in 2009...

So Ryan Goins is the next Bautista? Do you know how often a 29 year old bench player turns into a perennial MVP candidate? Just a guess but probably not very often.

Yeah that's exactly what I'm saying.

I'm saying players can make adjustments and sustain improvement. Obviously I used a player who's adjustments made a major change (I could have used Zobrist at age 27), but there are players who work their tail off, study film and made steady improvements as their careers go on. Pillar's doing it too. Personally, I love these types of players - the ones who squeeze every ouch of talent out of their bodies.

Goins makes changes, shows tangible improvement in the 2nd half (wRC+ of 108), is huge for this team, has a bad playoff series facing a ton of lefties and BAM - the "I told you so" guys come out in droves like they win a metal.

My motivation with Goins is not "I told you so". It's realistic expectations. His improvements have already happened. He went from AAA player to should be able to stick at back up middle IF. If he has a massive series like the one he had against the BoSox earlier in the year, we will all be thrilled.

Exactly. I thought Goins was nothing, and he's exceeded that far more than I could've imagined. I thought him becoming a good bench option was like a 90th percentile outcome.

Guys like Brownie and next year are the worst kinds of homers. Blind to the truth. They set arbitrary sample sizes and beat on that drum for a long time. Next year says Pillar is a 110 wRC+ hitter lmaoooooooo

I was one of the higher ones on him of the "fantasy guys" on this board (and I use fantasy as most here fantasize to be us), by calling him a good 25th or 26th guy.

For the record a certain Synchronized swimmer started "hanging out" with Goins in late July, and hasn't seen Ryan since she returned to school on September 8th.

Goins since that date .218/.279/.281.

A far cry from the .287/.407/.436 during their "hanging out" phase.

f*** resting his bat on his shoulder, I know what Goins needs

Give it a rest - I'm not blind to the truth. I don't think he's the next coming of Robbie Alomar, but I think there's a chance he can put up a wRC+ above 85 moving forward. I'm just not prepared to write off the improvements Goins showed in the 2nd half after 1 playoff series. I'm a huge fan who's caught up in my love for this team - sorry for trying to stay positive....it's kind a fun, you should try it.

All I ask from him is be patient at the plate to draw a few walks, do the small ball right when asked (that bunt to Beltre was brutal, thank you Andrus lol), and continue to do his deal in 2nd base. Occasional hit would be nice, but overall its the same thing one would ask from most #9 hitters in the league really.

I think we should expect much more from him in this KC series, he faced a lefty 11 out of his 17 At bats and he had some pretty good at bats as far as seeing pitches are concerned.

Almost 28 year old Ryan Goins and his 1.5 WAR is the definition of a guy you sell high on. Maybe we could get a year of Cashner or someone relate-able.

Not a guy I would want to get rid of with Tulo and Travis being starters.

Who cares, he's saving runs. In innings he leads off, would be nice if he could somehow get on base. Would like to see him hit 8th instead of 9th. Game 5 reminded us how important good D is.

I'm not comparing him to Travis. On this team, as it stands, with the offense that it has, it can hide Goins. Not ideal but ill take his glove any day - he is an impact player on the field. I do agree with your point on walks, but I also think its fair to note that he fared better at the plate once he started playing everyday. Clearly he's not a gifted hitter - he's not Devon Travis and im sure next year hell be coming off the bench - but if this team wins a WS with him playing 2b I wouldn't be surprised if he's a starter somewhere next year.

Off topic. I think the infield is going to be a interesting situation for the management to work with next year. Travis comes back with hopefully his bat is hot however Goins has proven his defensive superiority, and Tulo is Tulo. Hate to be a anarchist but what about Travis at 1st and close off the infield and have a .300 hitter still in the line up. Smoke/Colabelo to the bench........

I'd prefer Ryan Goins at first, Travis at second but I hear what you're saying!

need everyone to hit the next 6-8 games. It was good to see Tulo hitting again as well.

Yup. Hopefully Tulo rakes these next couple games so that we don't have to hear Harold talk about the length of the Royals lineup. Of course your lineup seems long when you hit your best hitter 8th.

I'm going to allow this, but ONLY so we can quote it for years to come and laugh, and laugh, and laugh...

It's unbelievable, they got this guy Gordon hitting 8th, he's no Escobar or Salvadore Perez, but the Royals are sooo good... Gordon is not aggressive enough to be elite, but he's a perfect 8 hitter, his passive approach doesn't hurt the team at 8. A lot teams would have to hit Gordon 1st or 2nd where he'd get exposed by fastballs down the middle.

ok, we can lose one in NY and win the world series in Toronto.

Crazy talk. All ready told my buddy the Mets fan to watch out for the Royals. The Mets young arms won't have a chance against the aggressive Royals. Harvey, Degrom and Thor are used to passive hitters taking their fastballs, Royals are going send the fastballs up the middle in clutch situations.

Rex Hudler's Royals win it in NY. Only question is will the Farm Boys be intimidated celebrating in the big city?? Harold Reynolds seems a little more worldly, since the Royals have revolutionized baseball for Reynolds, I hope he shows them some good places to celebrate.
