With the caveat of him being healthy, does it make sense to include Mark Buehrle on the ALCS roster? I think he's a lot more of a weapon than a guy like Tepera in the type of situations where they would be used. We know who the innings are going to in close games, but he could be an asset in a game where we're down a couple of runs and need some innings. If he is going well, maybe we use him as a situational lefty. Just a thought...

Here's some numbers of Royals lefties vs Buehrle:

Hosmer: 7/26 (.269), 0 HR, 0 BB

Moustakas: 1/13 (.077), 0 HR, 0 BB

Gordon: 9/36 (.250), 1 HR, 3 BB

Morales: 3/12 (.250), 0 HR, 0 BB

Dyson: 0/9 (.000), 0 HR, 0 BB

If he's healthy then definitely, but having Tepera on the roster clearly means he isn't imo so it's probably moot.

Also, none of those sub-50 PA samples mean anything, but I'm sure a health Papa Burl would be a nice LOOGY.

They mean something, just not as much as a larger sample.

If he's healthy he should absolutely be on the roster. Tepera doesn't deserve it at all. He was an odd choice to begin with.

Only if he's healthy and when they took Tepera that tells me he isn't. I doubt he's improved much over the last couple of days so I think it's very doubtful we see him.

Yeah it really seems like Buehrle is done for the year. Nobody likes Francis but he has decent splits for his career. Him and Loup would probably both be fine in a one batter at a time role. Not sure what the thinking was with Tepera.

Where's Aaron Loup? What's the family issue he's dealing with? Is he going to be back for this series?

I don't think it is anyone's business what the family issue is. They do need to figure out if he is available for the ALCS though. If not, give him the time to look after his family and look at other options.

Agreed it's nobody's business. Bt they probably keep him on the roster, even if he's still expected to miss games 1 and 2, maybe even 3,4

Tepera unfortunatly just doesn't fit anywhere IMO. Then again Buehrle has reverse splits and really isn't the best type of pitcher vs. the lefties...

...how's Francis' splits...? (I can't believe I'm considering him at all but...)

I disagree. Unless they are a starting pitcher or one of the 8 starters in the field. You do not keep someone on the roster who could be unavailable for up to 4 games.

Does anyone think he's going to be effective as LOOGY coming out of the pen? I'm not.

I'm not convinced he can get anyone out right now. SSS but Tepera has been very solid against lefties, whatever that's worth.

Look at his minor league splits....

His splits are great. I don't know if he's ever been tried as a loogy but it seems like he could be a lot more successful in that role than the way he's been used throughout most of his career.

Francis or Tepera as the 25th guy?

I'd honestly take Francis first

Never thought in a million years I said it but I think so too. Tepera isn't bad. He really isn't. But he's nothing special...and he'd be redundant. Francis could actually have some usefulness coming in against Hosmer or Moose at some point if Loup (assuming he's back) is already used up in the game.

If it was our business we would know. The guy is aching to be out on the field I'm certain, so whatever it is....its important. Anyone with a family can understand.

Hopefully Loup is back and can be our main LOOGY.

If Beurhle were healthy I'd take him.

Otherwise, I think I'd go Francis but never would I consider using him in a high leverage spot. He could pitch a 5th or 6th inning when the Royals have 2 or 3 lefties coming up. Otherwise he never would get use.

EDIT: f***, do we really want Francis throwing in the postseason? I'd almost rather have Tepera after thinking about it.

I think Ryan Tepera has a future as a serviceable reliever, but because of all above stated reasons...Jeff Francis.

Steve Delabar career vs lefties: .184 avg, .284 wOBA, 11.37 K/9

He might walk guys but he's still a better choice when you're hoping for a K against a couple lefties with runners on 2nd & 3rd.
