Had to look him up as I had almost forgot he existed.. his power stroke early on had really started to show up. 7 HR in 85 PA.. nearly doubling his entire minor league HR totals over the course of a month.

Yeah that started last year. ISO 2023 - 0.043 ISO 2024 - 0.243 ISO 2025 - 0.324 It's too bad he can't stay healthy. It would have been ideal for him to move up to AA this year in his age 22 season... I mean - they have been incredible in the DSL. .339/.445/.556 with a 157 wRC+ in 227 PA's. 11% BB rate, 17% K rate - all as a 17 year old...
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2025 Posted August 12, 2025 Juan Sanchez has to be one of the more generic names you've ever heard. There's 4 Juan Sanchez-es in the minors right now, and the fangraphs search lists 4 others. CPU generated name right there. In fact, he's not even the only Juan Sanchez in our farm system right now! We also have JJ Sanchez, short for Juan Jose Sanchez. https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=sanche000jj-

Not sure how that goes after the trade deadline but a lot of guys are popping up, this news is just gravy.

Moon Seo-jun, evaluated as one of the top three prospects for the 2026 rookie draft alongside Park Jun-hyun (Cheonan Buk-il High School) and Yang Woo-jin (Gyeonggi Aviation High School), is garnering much attention with his tall stature of 196 cm (6'5" give or take) and fastball exceeding 150 km/h (93mph). His fastball, which comes from a high release point, combined with a curveball that drops sharply, is considered powerful. When asked to introduce his strengths, Moon Seo-jun replied, "I throw fastballs, cutters, two-seamers, changeups, and sweepers. This year, my fastball reached a top speed of 153 km/h.(95mph) Overall, it seems better compared to last year. The pitches I am most confident with are the fastball and changeup." He also revealed his role models, saying, "I like Yu Darvish (San Diego) and in Korea, I admire senior Ahn Woo-jin (Kiwoom)." Considered to have the best physique and greatest potential among this year's promising players. Gen.Disarray, Woocash, Terminator and 2 others 5
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2025 Posted August 13, 2025 Nice, well that extra IFA money from the Straw deal is use it or lose it so I wouldn't be surprised if this is a little bit of an overpay in order to entice him to come to the US early instead of entering the Korean draft. But if he's 6'5'' and throwing 95 at 18 years old he seems like a good gamble.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2025 Posted August 13, 2025 Still no confirmation from anywhere on this, though some Korean outlets are referencing the tweet and also running the story.

I love how the first paragraph talks about a powerful curveball and then he goes on to talk about his pitch arsenal, which doesn't include a curveball. Seems a little fishy...

I don't think may players out there at all would compare to what Altuve has done, but.. yeah almost identically sized players. Altuve definitely had some HR pop in the minors, but Pinto's most recent SSS would be significantly higher than Altuve ever had in the minors. Thing is, Pinto is 22 at High A. At that age Altuve spent the entire season in the majors putting up 2fWAR. Altuve is probably headed to Cooperstown someday so to compare Pinto to him would seem pretty unfair really. abola2121 1
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 18, 2025 Posted August 18, 2025 Arjun Nimmala really turning a hot start into a bad year, somehow. Completely lost. Has been bad since June began. Now flirting with an OPS under .700 on the year. His K and BB numbers look fine right now and fine in the last 30 days. So it's not your typical "can't hit" problem. Probably a big batted ball profile problem though. Is he trying too hard to not strikeout?
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2025 Posted August 18, 2025 Yeah - I've been following that through FanGraphs. Quite concerning unfortunately.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2025 Posted August 20, 2025 Juan Sanchez 2-3 with a HR and walk again today. Kid is killing the DSL right now I really don't know what to make of Coronado right now... has an OBP over .500, more than twice as many walks as Ks, but no HRs and only 6 extra base hits out of his 65 total hits. What's that old saying about not being able to walk off the island? Looks like he's really trying to buck that trend.
VladAboutYou Verified Member Posted August 20, 2025 Posted August 20, 2025 What is the consensus regarding Martinez's slump this year? His FB% is up and his LA is up significantly, but his exit velo is down. Is he just struggling to drive the ball deep enough to get hits? I suppose his K% is pretty high, too, this year.
