Ryu In My House Verified Member Posted August 15, 2024 Posted August 15, 2024 MLB.com has released an updated top 100 as well as new top 30 rankings for each team. They have newcomers (recent draft picks and trade acquisitions) making up nearly half of the Jays list, 13/30. https://www.mlb.com/prospects/bluejays/ Has anyone ever seen such an infusion of talent from a single trade deadline? I mean with the Blue Jays? I have followed the team for almost 40 years and I cannot recall such a thing happening. The FO gets an A for the trade deadline deals. if only Garcia had stayed healthy, etc.

I mean, sure you hope so, but honestly even if they get 1 league average regular or back-end starter for the next 6 seasons, it's a clear win.

It’s like hammering every house in the neighborhood on Halloween and ending up with a bunch of little boxes of smarties

You think we should have got more than we did for those rentals (sorry Pearson)?

No I just don’t really think it’s an infusion of talent. It’s an infusion of 40 FV players. Like John said if one of these guys turns into a decent regular that would be a good outcome

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2024 Posted August 16, 2024 That's quite the turnaround compared to the 66 wRC+ he produced at AA in the Mariners system. It's all SSS and adjusting to the new level though. He was very good in A+ for them, albeit at not the best age for the level, and had only played 8 games in AA in his first taste.

He's faced questions about his age as he a little old for the level, but I do like the potential he shows as he's only a second year pro at this point.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2024 Posted August 16, 2024 Smarties are awesome! Hot take: Smarties are better than M&M's
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 16, 2024 Posted August 16, 2024 Change it to "an infusion of 45 and 40 FV players" and it is true Certainly a few of them have a shot of being 50 FV dudes but it's more likely they don't end up there. Bloss, Clase, Macadoo, Wagner, Loperfido.

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2024 Posted August 16, 2024 Smarties were better when I was 5. And Smarties in America are we call Rockets up here. Crazy.

I like peanut M&Ms and peanut butter M&Ms. Mini M&M's are also really good. But I like smarties more than regular M&M's.

I like the Smarties taste better, but I like that the M&M colouring doesn't immediately rub off on your fingers like Smarties does.

metafour Verified Member Posted August 17, 2024 Posted August 17, 2024 In Dunedin: 19 YO RHP Gilberto Batista (Jays debut, part of Jansen trade): 2 IP, 3 H, 3 R (1 ER), 2 BB, 6 K Not super sharp, but he was up to 95 mph and got whiffs with 4 different pitches. 19 YO LHP Luis Torres: 4.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 7 K Also up to 94/95 and a kid to watch moving forward.
The_DH Verified Member Posted August 17, 2024 Posted August 17, 2024 Don't we get to call up 2 players for September - I'm assuming a pitcher and a position player? Bloss could get a start or two in September. Don't know which bat I'd bring back other than Orelvis for the last week or so.

Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted August 17, 2024 Posted August 17, 2024 Both those two (Clase and Bloss) seemed a bit rushed to the MLB this year and perhaps just not quite ready. In Clase's case he's struggled in a small sample since joining the Bisons. I'd probably just leave both those two in AAA for the remaining 5ish weeks (last game is Sept 22 for the Bisons). There are quite a few older options on the 40 man to call up (Cuas, Danner, Eisert, Espino, Frias, Rodriguez, De Los Santos, Lukes) even if a lot of them suck.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted August 17, 2024 Posted August 17, 2024 Best to bring up a couple of BP options IMO. BP guys tend not to get good until late 20's anyway. Give them a taste. Danner in particular.

I thought 2/3 of that list of older options would be cannon fodder for real call-ups. Do we need starters and real relievers!!
