Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2024 Posted April 6, 2024 So much hype around Ricky in our fan base as if there is already an assumption he will become a top of rotation SP in our in the very near future. Not sure what the probability is but at this point without good odds I would not bet on it. Between the injuries, lack of pitches he is throwing and performance blips it’s no sure thing. More likely he turns out like Pearson

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2024 Posted April 6, 2024 Ricky T is like 5 years away from throwing 80 pitches in a game in August More like 7!

I mean he's in the conversation as the best LH SPing prospect in baseball. It seems realistic for fans to expect him to be a major contributor moving forward. But Pearson did too and this team is cursed, so I fully expect he'll never amount to s***. Must be the coaches or Atkins fault. We can't develop s*** and Ricky already looks like a lost cause.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2024 Posted April 6, 2024 Are you okay, mate? Seriously. Just being real. Ricky can't stay healthy, can't work deep into games and walks too many. I'd suggest there's a 10% chance he'll ever hold down a spot in any rotation at this point. His upside now is that of Josh Hader IMO. Which would be great, but when you had 2 of the better SPing prospects in baseball and one is a 6th inning mop up man and the other might be a late inning reliver - that f***ing sucks.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2024 Posted April 6, 2024 He's trolling. I'm not though. I just don't see the point in optimism anymore. It's pretty obvious this team is a disaster. Literally nothing can go right for this team unless it's FA signings or our below average, journeyman type prospects. Vlad, Kirk, Manoah, Pearson, Biggio, etc. - all our home grown prospects are f***ing terrible. Our current prospects don't look like they'll ever be much. Best shot is a guy who can't stay healthy or throw strikes. Barriera looks like a huge bust. Bo won't re-sign here, he's gone Varsho deal is pathetic. Guy is s***. Springer is a shadow of his former self (who I loved) Mazya is f***ed Only super old managers win in the playoffs - we have a tomato. Literally nothing goes right for this f***ing team and there's almost NOTHING of interest for a team battling for 4th or 5th place. Nothing in the present, nothing in the future. Hoping for a guy from India and Bobby Bonilla's kid (or cousin, or whatever) to lead this team in 2030. TB can lose their best player and trade their best players away, bring in nobodies, bat Amed Roserio 5th and Harold f***ing Ramirez 3rd and still be good, while we watch the 5th percentile results play out in TO.

This year's C-Sucker of the year goes to anyone who didn't want to upgrade the offense because we'd get improvements from the pile of turds leftover.

It sounds like it's time to take a break from the Jays my friend. Life is far too f***ing short for this much frustration about a sport. Watching baseball is like any other passive hobby and past time and it should bring you enjoyment, if the game isn't enjoyable turn it off and do something else, read a book, bake bread, make a shepherds pie, play guitar, go for a walk, watch HGTV and fold laundry. Yeah the team sucks to watch and I find myself spending a lot of the game doing something else myself or just turning it off and doing something else. I'm not saying this to be condescending or anything along those lines but you used to be a super happy poster and seeing how negative you've become is s***.

A lot of this is true, but there is still hope my friend. There's a lot of season to play and the suckatude may or may not continue. You never know when some young guys may surprise us (Schneider/Clement) or when some guys stuck in a miserable slump all of a sudden get hot. I've always found you to be one of the most balanced posters on this site, and I believe a night out at Swiss Chalet would go a long way.
The_DH Verified Member Posted April 6, 2024 Posted April 6, 2024 The good part is the team has money to invest in the resources. The bad part is that the senior management don't know how to develop the assets or which assets to acquire.
HomeRunHomer Verified Member Posted April 6, 2024 Posted April 6, 2024 If YRod and Ricky T. turn out to be the real deal the Jays good be a nice spot to move some pitching for a bat or really good hitting propects. A nice bonus too if Manoah can turn things around a bit and be a decent MLB arm though I wouldn't count on it. Long term it could be best for the Jays if they are out of it at the trade deadline and someone is desperate for pitching help. However I don't have a lot of faith in Atkins making the right moves.

The bad part is that the senior management don't know how to develop the assets or which assets to acquire. A very healthy payroll and no real albatross contracts (assuming Springer is playable through the next couple years which I think he will be). Not a great contract, but also a manageable duration and budget hit. I think this was an uncharacteristically poor off-season for the management, but they've made some good trades/bad trades and have a pretty good track record on short-term contracts. The development piece has not been great, but that also takes a lot of time to see alpha in a market with a lot of randomness/unpredictability. I also think their farm team is underrated right now (but still mid) because they don't have the super high-end toolsy guys, but they do have a lot of possible major leaguers in the system including Schneider/Clements. I don't think Atkins survives if they underperform expectations this year. An incoming GM is not looking at a s***** situation at all as long as they payroll doesn't plummet.
The_DH Verified Member Posted April 6, 2024 Posted April 6, 2024 Maybe Moneyball was correct about Shapiro: no idea what he's doing and relies only on bad advice. In the movie he had a big group of advisors but didn't know which one to go to. He had a bad offseason and the prior one he gave away a great catcher and power outfielder and acquired 4th outfielder. Time to send Shapiro away.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted April 6, 2024 Posted April 6, 2024 A lot of things do seem to go wrong with this team for sure, I get it. Vlad turning into a 1 WAR first baseman with the IQ of a peanut Bo looking like he doesn't want to be here, but also being a below average defensive 3 WAR SS Manoah cratering from a 6 WAR starting pitcher into a negative WAR nightmare Pearson, once a top 5-10 prospect in all of baseball barely being able to hold down a relief spot Kirk, a guy who literally destroyed pitching all the way up the MiLB ladder and into MLB now swinging a wet noodle that he somehow managed not to eat. Jansen unable to go more than 30-40 games without pulling a muscle or breaking a bone. That's why I chuckle at the haters of the front office. The fact this team still manages to win about 90 games a year with all those "core" pieces turning into wet mushy cow manure borders on being some sort of miracle IMO.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2024 Posted April 6, 2024 Bo's closer to a 5 win average SS, bruh.
TradeBichette Verified Member Posted April 6, 2024 Posted April 6, 2024 Bo's closer to a 5 win average SS, bruh. Bo is batting .100 while being the worst defensive shortstop in the league. He had one close to average year last year and we just forget the last 5.
