spats Verified Member Posted April 12, 2023 Posted April 12, 2023 Chad Dallas with a nice outing for Vancouver tonight. 5 innings, 11k's.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2023 Posted April 12, 2023 Some really nice movement on those breaking pitches.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted April 12, 2023 Posted April 12, 2023 That is some nasty stuff from Dallas there. Anyone know what kind of velocity he brings to the table?
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2023 Posted April 12, 2023 That is some nasty stuff from Dallas there. Anyone know what kind of velocity he brings to the table? Dallas is an athletic pitcher, with an up-tempo delivery, and a smooth motion toward the plate despite some effort due to the pace. He delivers the ball from a high three-quarter slot, with a short, fast arm action, a heavy drop and drive operation and a strong leg block, that portends potential velocity gains to be had. Dallas works off of a four pitch mix that features above-average spin. His four-seam fastball has moderate hop, sitting 91-94 mph, touching 96 mph at peak, and is used primarily to set up his trio of secondaries early in counts. His horizontal breaking slider has good velocity sitting in the mid-80s, touching as high as 89 mph, and is his best swing and miss pitch by a wide margin. He shows excellent command of the pitch, and can throw it for strikes or exaggerate the shape to induce chases off the plate glove side. His low-80s curveball is used interchangeably with his slider, featuring 11-5 shape and heavier downward drop than his slider. The pitch is his primary secondary against lefthanded hitters, and is an effective, but not overpowering offering. He throws a low-90s cutter that produced good results in limited 2021 usage. That was BAs report from last year's Jays prospect ranking. Fangraphs grades the slider as a current 60 and future 70 pitch
keggy Verified Member Posted April 12, 2023 Posted April 12, 2023 Tiedemann expected to make his debut this week Have Ricky start in the minors then bring him up as a reliever for the stretch run. Controls his innings and gives us a lefty weapon out of the pen.

Controls his innings and gives us a lefty weapon out of the pen. no doubt. With any SP injuries too he could step in and get some starts if needed also. 4-5 innings tops most likely, but if that's the case so be it.
spats Verified Member Posted April 12, 2023 Posted April 12, 2023 What a nice easy delivery. Is he considered one of the top 30 prospects in the system?
spats Verified Member Posted April 12, 2023 Posted April 12, 2023 Going to watch the Dunedin Jays tonight. Unfortunately, there's not much to see on this team. Looking forward to next week to try and catch a glimpse of Barriera or Bonilla in an extended spring rookie ball game in Clearwater.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2023 Posted April 12, 2023 What a nice easy delivery. Is he considered one of the top 30 prospects in the system? For Chad Dallas, no. Fangraphs has him as interesting but in the "doesn't throw enough strikes" category based on his first full season being pretty rough with a 5.22 BB/9, mainly faulting the slider. If he's cleared up that issue, he could leapfrog a lot of guys in a hurry.

Kendrys Rojas for a pitcher.

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2023 Posted April 12, 2023 Pearson racking up the K's. IP 1.1, H 1, BB 1, K 3 0 ER Love it, but sure would be nice to see fewer walks. Right now he's 5.1 IP with 4 BB, 4 hits, and 11 K. I'm sure the Jays love the Ks but he needs to tighten up those walks.

Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted April 13, 2023 Posted April 13, 2023 Manuel Beltre 4-5 today. 8-15 on the year Vancouver and New Hampshire been quite offensively. Some very cold weather to start for them

Season ERA at 1.86 with 16K in 9.2 innings. Seems like the only thing that could keep him from being a productive arm (injury notwithstanding) is his FB. Low 90s is certainly not terrible... He'll just need to be that much more precise with it. Very little margin for error.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2023 Author Posted April 13, 2023 I thought he'd seen an uptick in his velo? Not sure. Feels like every highlight I see with the FB comes in around 91-92. Could be a coincidence, but I don't think it's getting to 94-95 with any regularity. Again, velocity isn't everything...but it just makes his FB that much more hittable if he's not dialed in 100% with his command. Soft tossers concern me, unless you have a gimmick like Cimber.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2023 Posted April 13, 2023 I thought he'd seen an uptick in his velo? Yeah I believe it was reported during spring training that he's gained a few extra ticks on his fastball.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2023 Author Posted April 13, 2023 Yeah I believe it was reported during spring training that he's gained a few extra ticks on his fastball. I think it just returned back to his '21 velo. From what I remember he saw a slight decrease last season. But I could be wrong.

Nah, you're right he dropped from 89-94 from '21 to 89-92 last season to hitting 94 again this season.

Some very cold weather to start for them Was at the game last night. Beltre had a nice game, not much power but sprays the ball to all fields and plays a decent shortstop. Toman made a couple nice plays at 3rd which is where he'll probably end up. Rojas has a nice easy motion as a lefty and was around 92-94 all night.

Hopefully can grow into some pop.
