Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2022 Posted June 20, 2022 Hopefully. Deck is sure stacked against him though. Small guy with low velocity, who's battled injuries for like 4 years now. He's still young, so plenty of time still. The injuries certainly slowed his progression, oof.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2022 Posted June 20, 2022 I see Pearson had an appearance where he only threw 3 pitches before exiting. Anybody know if he suffered yet another injury? Yes, no bueno.
Benito Verified Member Posted June 20, 2022 Posted June 20, 2022 There’s no basis for this opinion, even if he was ever wanted in a trade, they’d need to either provide his recent physical results or the team acquiring him would get their own done before doing the deal, and they’d find out whatever his problems were. Pretending an injury doesn’t exists provides no advantage to the Jays whatsoever. Same. I can't think of one possible advantage for the front office to lie about Pearson's injury. The only ones closely following Nate's progress in hopes of him contributing in any meaningful way, are hardcore fans. He's far from most average fan's and media's minds.

While I generally agree, Fan 590 had a discussion on Pearson this morning. He's still on the periphery for a lot of people.

Laika Community Moderator Posted June 20, 2022 Posted June 20, 2022 Are we playing “word of the day” Yeah the word of the day is tithead Here I will use it in a sentence. "connorp is a tithead"
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2022 Posted June 20, 2022 Are we playing “word of the day” Have you somehow missed every single post of mine throughout history? My posts are either vile profanity, or $10 words straight from the dictionary store.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2022 Posted June 20, 2022 Let's not dumb down BJMB for connor's benefit
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2022 Author Posted June 20, 2022 When did periphery become a fancy word?
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2022 Posted June 20, 2022 When did periphery become a fancy word? I’m not claiming it’s a word people wouldn’t know (especially in driving, though I believe there’s also such thing as a “sixth sense” as well); just one they won’t see used much in common talk. So perhaps “Word of the day” was a bad phrase.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2022 Posted June 20, 2022 who gave birth to this dunce Complete and utter escalation to personal lol. Though your disregard of the rules has been well noted already. But still worth pointing out in real time

Pretending an injury doesn’t exists provides no advantage to the Jays whatsoever. I didn't say the front office lied to raise Pearson's trade value; I have no idea why they would lie. I just know that nothing that management has told us about Pearson makes any sense to a logical person. Just putting together the timeline from simple google searches, Pearson left the team on March 31. On April 5, it was reported that Charlie said "Tuesday that Pearson (illness) has been diagnosed with mononucleosis and will be out "a while," Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports." Already this doesn't make any sense. There's no way you can predict that someone will be out long-term when they have mono. On April 8, "Pearson (illness) is "feeling much better" according to Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins and could resume baseball activities within days." This part immediately contradicts what Montoyo said. April 9, "Nate Pearson resumed throwing today, he's basically starting spring training all over again from scratch, per #BlueJays manager Charlie Montoyo." This also makes no sense. Pearson was out for about a week and they make it sound like he's coming back from Tommy John or something. After this Pearson goes on a slow throwing progression working out to about once per week for the next two months. I won't repeat every single update. But once again, this doesn't make any sense. Even if you're building up "from scratch", you don't go on this type of throwing program after being inactive for a week with an illness. When pitchers report to spring training without touching a baseball for 5 months, they still throw more than once a week. And then finally getting pulled after 3 pitches on this ridiculous schedule is just the icing on the cake. Again, I have no idea why anyone would lie about this stuff. Maybe Pearson hurt his arm doing something he wasn't supposed to be doing, I really don't know. But if you want to believe what the front office has been feeding you, that's your decision.

That doesn’t sound that crazy. He got mono, it was bad, he came back but had to come back really slowly because of the mono. Then he got a separate injury.

All signs point to they saw stuff on his MRI they didn’t like. What benefit would you get to announcing that?

I think it's far crazier to concoct conspiracy theories when the information that's been presented to you is perfectly reasonable.

I know you believe the news. You can always believe the news.

I don’t see any benefit to anyone for hiding MRI results. I think you are reaching.

Again, MRI results aren’t always “it’s torn, it’s partially torn”.. there’s stuff that’s subject to interpretation and so yes, there would be some benefit to not openly broadcasting your concerns about your asset. I’m not saying that I know but the logic that there is no reason they’d keep it close to the vest is mistaken. Again, as others have said, have they always been forthcoming in the past?

So, what you are saying is that he had mono, he came back and then he picked up another injury that they weren’t sure was going to be long term serious or not, so they didn’t publicize the results? That’s possible.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2022 Posted June 20, 2022 So, what you are saying is that he had mono, he came back and then he picked up another injury that they weren’t sure was going to be long term serious or not, so they didn’t publicize the results? That’s possible. Yeah I mean I’m taking mono as a fact. Just that when he went to ramp up, something else came into the picture. Just an opinion of course but I just think it’s understandable that they would keep concerns to themselves unless it was something blatant with a clear timeline (tear etc)
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2022 Posted June 20, 2022 We generally don't hear about test results on pitchers. We hear the pitcher can't pitch due to arm soreness and then a few days later, TJS or TOS. Before this, teams know the player has a partial tear or pitching with pain or whatever. Agree with connor full disclosure of a pitcher's arm health is not in a team's interest.
