BA writeup on J-Rod came out today. They gave him a 75 overall grade.

 

Scouting Report: Rodriguez is a physical presence at 6-foot-3, 210 pounds with the strength and athleticism to take over games. He destroys baseballs with 80-grade raw power and has been known to hit balls out of stadiums. His longest home runs come to his pull side, but he has the strength to drive balls out the other way with shocking ease. Manuel Beltre is one of my favorites in the system. He's not incredibly toolsy or twitchy, and his swing seems to lack some fluidity. But the dude is obsessed with hitting. He posts a fair bit to his social media almost every day showcasing the different hitting drills he's doing. He's already pretty advanced for 17 years old in terms of approach, and the baseball IQ and makeup seem off the charts. If he can work on his lower half and rotation a bit more, I think there's some real pull-side power waiting to be unlocked.

Baseball America has released its top 100 prospects list. There are three Blue Jays on the list.

 

The Jays on the list:

 

#7: Gabriel Moreno

They say he’s shown “premium hitting ability, growing power and plus defense”. And that he’ll give the Jays ‘another young homegrown All-Star”. Last year he was 12th.

 

#62: Nate Pearson

“Pearson’s repeated injuries and inconsistent control make him a potential reliever rather than a starter, but he has excellent stuff.” Last year he was #55.

 

#75: Orelvis Martinez

“He is unlikely to stay at shortstop, but his bat will play just fine at third base.” Last year he was #58.

 

We had seven on it last year. Alex Manoah (13th) and Alejandro Kirk (85th) graduated. Austin Martin (21st) was traded, he dropped to #47. And Jordan Groshans fell off the list.
