I highly doubt it, I would trade top prospects for an ace. But doing it for the likes of Dickey is dumb 100% of the time.

TBF Dickey had just won the Cy Young, and as a knuckleballer his age wasn’t particularly an issue.

Still a bad trade that got even worse, with Dickey only being ok and Syndergaard turning into Thor.

Trading two of your three top prospects for a 38 year old knuckleballer should never make sense at any time

but major league scouts thought he could get even better.

That quote from Alex Anthopolous has been branded into my brain and I'm not sure it'll ever leave.

I wouldn't trade Casas and Chavis for a 38-year-old knuckleballer either.

I'm not buying it. Anyone would have been fine with dealing a pair of non top 100 prospects for the reigning Cy Young winner on a cheap deal.

d'Arnaud + Sanchez would have been totally fine in hindsight right

the Blue Jays basically just picked the wrong arm to send away

It was a bad trade at the time and got worse as time passed. Dickey had one good year and a bunch of s***** to medicore ones

Most of the board was stunned when d'Araud's name came out. Then we kind of came to terms with it before getting kicked in the nuts by Syndergaard being the second piece.

But he was s***** to mediocre outside that cy young year. Your right, the age thing is moot with him being a knuckler...he just wasn't a very good one.

I don't get why AA is immortalized by some. His teams were fairly average until the last sixty games

He made exciting / risky trades, had a team that hit tonnes of homeruns, and took us to the playoffs for the first time in years. People like to be entertained.

Man prospects can kill ya..

One year your a 2nd round pick, 750k signing bonus at 18, top 10 prospect for your team, tommy john surgery, still reasonably regarded prospect, 50 game suspension, Jays release you..

Then three years later you have multiple arrests on your record

lol Clinton Hollon

Looks like he thought court appearances were optional.

Go research the velocity that RA was adding to his knuckle ball and what effects it had to his SwStr%. I believe that's where the "scouts believe he can be even better" quote originated from.

Now someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe he had knee or groin injuries in TO, which prevented him from maintaining the velocity gains - and thus he regressed and the rest is history.

We also had good reason to believe that the knuckler would be better in domed stadiums.

BA has been doing some IFA July 2 reports. Jays were not on the the first one.

Rikelvin de Castro, SS, Dominican Republic

A lean, 6-foot shortstop, de Castro is a high-energy, hard-nosed player with a chance to develop into a plus defender, making challenging plays look easy. He's a righthanded hitter with a quick, loose stroke and gap power. Castro trains with Angel Perez and is expected with the Blue Jays, likely for north of $1 million.

Seems like the Jays alternate years between a balanced signing period, then a year where they blow their wad on a big ticket item.

This is a strong list

What about it do you like?

Just glancing at it real quick they seem to be really down on Eloy and very very high in Keibert Ruiz. I dont agree with either but that doesn't mean I dont like the lost otherwise.

I like the general area that they placed the vast majority of the names.

Eloy being 8th instead of 3rd, I don't really care about that. The names above him could very realistically be better players. Eloy's presence with Vlad and Tatis in the holy trifecta has always seemed suspect to me. I think Vlad is on an island, Franco and Tatis are on a different island, and then Eloy is on a bigger island with the other names in the top 10 or 11 or whatever.

They seem to value defense far more than other lists. Keibert and Pache (#19!) are very strong defensively. Eloy not so much.

Vlad's insane power and plate discipline overcomes any defensive concerns.

KeBryan Hayes at 20 might be the highest I've seen him.

Also, I would take Jesus Luzardo over almost every other pitcher above him except Whitley.

Well they rank all tools, it's expected from all the listings? They're not fantasy all bat listing's Jim.

Does it make sense for any list to have Ruiz ranked significantly higher than Jansen? I don't see it.

Definitely defensible if you hate Jansen's defense. Ruiz' contact and age vs. level scores are pretty elite.

I know, dum-dum, but some lists weight defense higher than others.
