L54 Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Oh i totally agree, but there is a certain someone here who feels that Vladdy's future at third base hinges on what happens with JD. Well it clearly does. If JD is in Toronto for the next 6 years it will be him playing 3B and not Vladdy.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Well it clearly does. If JD is in Toronto for the next 6 years it will be him playing 3B and not Vladdy. Nah, the Jays will employ a full-time defensive shift that sees 1B Vlad position himself near third base - about two feet to the left of 3B Donaldson - thus giving him 3B eligibility in fantasy. They might miss a few plays at first base each game, but they should be damn near perfect on plays to third.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Wilmer Font's sudden emergence this season has been really fascinating. I wish he was still in the Jays' system, but he's been fun to keep tabs on all season long. I wish him the best of luck in the majors - he will be recalled by the Dodgers today. http://www.milb.com/documents/7/3/4/251649734/Font_2017_Pitcher_of_the_Year.pdf

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Vladdy with a dinger and a walk last night (no Ks, obv). Only 1-4 tho, is he slumping?
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Vladdy with a dinger and a walk last night (no Ks, obv). Only 1-4 tho, is he slumping? He's just giving the other teams a chance.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Vladdy with a dinger and a walk last night (no Ks, obv). Only 1-4 tho, is he slumping? Age related decline.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Vladdy with a dinger and a walk last night (no Ks, obv). Only 1-4 tho, is he slumping? Too fat.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 So at this point, I think it's pretty much illegal for Fangraphs to have a chat without Vlad content. Here's your daily fix: PF 9:34 How good can Vlad. Jr become? Trout Harper Correa level? Jeff Sullivan 9:35 Okay, so, on the one hand, don't expect that. Never expect that. On the other hand, I don't think there's a player in the minors with a higher ceiling. Elite is most certainly within Guerrero's feasible reach
Cbert Verified Member Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 At this point, you gotta think him and Bichette are starting next year in AA, right? I know the org doesn't want to rush them along, but they need to be challenged, too.

Both probably get a ST invite just to taste the big league camp
Laika Community Moderator Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Did anyone post the Bo quote about Vlad yet? I will paraphrase. "He doesn't even know how to hit home runs yet. He doesn't have a home run swing like you see with big power hitters. He has 13 home runs this year and I think they've all been line drives that just never dropped."
jimedmonds Verified Member Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Rogers announces a new policy starting in 2018 that they will perennially match the highest salaried team. it's Feb 1st, 2018 and Billy Epler calls to offer Mike Trout in exchange for Vlad Jr., Bichette, Alford, Pearson, Warmouth and Borucki. Assume that JD is willing to sign a 5 year extension for $30M. Do you guys pull the trigger?

Yeah, when you consider that he hasn't even consistently tapped into his raw power, and that he is almost a decade away from physical maturity, it's crazy to think the power numbers he could post some day. The profile could be 70 hit, 70 power, 70 plate discipline. Cathedral ceiling.

Probably more of a ~7 WAR ceiling than the elite ~10

BTS Community Moderator Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Most impressive prospect: Vlad at 18 in A+ looking like a Miguel Cabrera bat might be in play, or Ronald Acuna at 19 in AAA looking like a 5-tool stud, but with a lesser offensive profile than Vlad?
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Vlad's offensive upside seems to be way higher, but Acuna has more glove and some speed. I see Acuna's ceiling along the lines of Starling Marte.

I see Acuna's ceiling along the lines of Starling Marte. I think there's enough potential in the bat that I wouldn't throw a Marte ceiling on him. The things he's doing offensively are very rare for someone his age at AAA. Probably looking at a prime McCutchen ceiling.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 He could be a 60 across the board guy, I'm just not convinced on 60 power quite yet.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 I could see Acuna as a prime Jayson Werth type.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 80/80, that's just stupid. Even Miggy doesn't have 80 power. On the current trajectory, Vlad will be in the big leagues this time next year.

On the current trajectory, Vlad will be in the big leagues this time next year. I think it's absurd to suggest 80 hit 80 power ceiling, when there's nobody that's ever had that combo before. Just be conservative, call it 70/70 and move along.
ColdPint Verified Member Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 I think we need to temper expectations a bit on Vlad. We're already putting him as a first ballot HOF before he even sees an at bat at AA. Amazing talent, for sure, let's just not set up ourselves for Travis Snider disappointment.
