Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2017 Posted August 25, 2017 Philbert 10:28 Of everyone with at least 50 PA at A+ in their age-18 season between 2006 and 2016, the best wRC+ is 117. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is currently at 174 in 173 plate appearances. Jeff Sullivan 10:28 A teenager with power, and more walks than strikeouts. He's an absurdity

Can't get too aggressive with arms IMO. Especially with surgical histories. Too much too fast and before you know it it's all cocaine and boats.

He's an absurdity Tatis Jr. isn't far behind at 154 wRC+ in 518 PA's + 29 SB's as a shortstop. Unreal.

They'll likely want to build his innings up, which could take a few years. I doubt we'll see a really aggressive promotion schedule.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2017 Posted August 25, 2017 Danny Jansen has gotten on base at least once all 14 games since being called up to AAA. I'm starting to let my inner hype build.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2017 Author Posted August 25, 2017 This might be one of the most unique statistical profiles I've ever seen: http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=sa504866&position=C Guy doesn't walk or strikeout, really ever! Tony Gwynn wasn't as blatant but for the calibre of player he was, his BB and K numbers were quite low too. http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=1005166&position=OF

I remember this same kind of discussion with Jeff Hoffman and how everyone thought he'd rip through the system and own everyone. They will not rush him at all. Just my opinion though.

Mike Trout

Pearson just turned 21, he's really not that young despite being a JUCO.

Where they start him will depend on what they have him working on and how long it takes to do it. Chances are his fastball/curve combo could already play in bullpen on the majors but he needs to refine a 3rd pitch (likely his changeup) to at least an average level to be a starter. Not sure if he's still throwing a slider or not, you don't see very many pitchers these days throwing both a curve and slider, usually they shelf one or the other

He should as well. He'd be a monster.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2017 Posted August 26, 2017 Another good night for Reese McGuire: 2-for-4 with a home run Whatever the adjustment was, whether its Jansen or McGuire, Jays have a ML starting catcher in the pipeline. With the other a more than capable backup. Need a couple of prospect pitchers to elevate their game (or trade for them) and Jays are looking like a great young team by 2020 if not earlier.

Maybe rushing was the wrong word to use. My point is more that I don't want to see people starting to assume that he'll get to the show by ....insert date here....like was the case with Hoffman from many a fan. Kid has a very powerful arm. Not sure about the consistency of his secondary stuff yet. I hope he blows the doors off and rockets through the farm system and is in Toronto in short order, but I'm not expecting it.

Farm is definitely position player heavy right now. Not that that's a bad thing. Working out well for the Astros and Cubs. Between SRF, Pannone, Zeuch, Harris, Borucki and Greene, one or two of them has to pan out to be a capable starter. Maybe not an ace, but a mid-bottom of the rotation type.

You've never been right, why would you do this to the Jays' future?!

He could have the most potential out of anyone.
