THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2017 Posted August 14, 2017 Rowdy has now gone 171 PA (since June 27th) without a home run. Yikes. If there was ever someone who should sit-down with JD about launch angle, it's Tellez.

Cbert Verified Member Posted August 14, 2017 Posted August 14, 2017 Rowdy has now gone 171 PA (since June 27th) without a home run. Yikes. It does suck that the power seems to have disappeared right now, but he has hit .270 with 10 doubles and a .340OBP over the past month, and a lot of that production has come in the last 10 days. Hopefully with personal issues behind him we see him hit a few long balls in the final two weeks and finish the year on a high note.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2017 Posted August 14, 2017 I refuse to live in a world where Keith Law was right about something, so dammit Tellez, turn into a big leaguer!
MunenoriKawasakiMVP Verified Member Posted August 14, 2017 Posted August 14, 2017 Even with the struggles I want to see Tellez up in September. Tellez has been raking in August (slash line of ,391/,472/,478/,950)
MunenoriKawasakiMVP Verified Member Posted August 14, 2017 Posted August 14, 2017 Well overall he just has a ,264 BABIP. I agree he needs more homers to have success going forward but he's been hit by bad luck this year.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2017 Posted August 14, 2017 Fangraphs updated Top 10 Prospects list came out today for both the NL and AL East. Here is the blurb on the Jays. Toronto Blue Jays (Preseason List) 1. Vladimir Guerrero Jr., 3B 2. Anthony Alford, OF 3. Bo Bichette, 2B 4. Teoscar Hernandez, OF 5. Logan Warmoth, SS 6. Sean Reid-Foley, RHP 7. Nate Pearson, RHP 8. Justin Maese, RHP 9. Lourdes Gurriel, UTIL 10. Rowdy Tellez, 1B Guerrero is one of the best prospects in baseball. Alford was breaking out and made his big-league debut before he broke his hamate. He has had significant injuries each of the last two years (concussion, knee injury, broken hamate), though no recurring ailments. Bichette, of whom I was skeptical as an amateur, moves up because of his freakish feel to hit, which he has carried to the Florida State League. There’s a sizeable gap after him, where things get very crowded. About six players after the top 10 all have arguments for inclusion. Among them is SS Richard Urena, who has started to hit after a bad first few months. C/1B Max Pentecost is hitting in High-A but is already 24 years old http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/updated-top-10-prospect-lists-al-east/

If Pearson goes 4 IP+ next start, like I expect, and has similar results, they should promote him to Lansing. I'm somewhat surprised Alford is above Bo here, but it's arguable. LGJ is a bit too low imo though, and Teoscar too high.

You just justified him getting a September call-up using 13 days of August numbers and then defended his ridiculously inflated August babip with his overall season numbers. Stop being ridiculous.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2017 Author Posted August 14, 2017 Bo Bichette not in lineup today after yesterdays rolled ankle.
43211234 Verified Member Posted August 14, 2017 Posted August 14, 2017 Should Danny Jansen be above Tellez? Definitely above Maese I would think.

A JT Realmuto comp doesn't look out of place. 4th prospect in the org imo. 34 Ks in 373 PAs this year is elite. More walks than Ks

Stop being ridiculous. I'm not ridiculous you dummy bring him up to boost his confidence and get a few at bats. He could use some help from some big league players. If he can turn some of the doubles he got this year into homeruns next year he would be very interesting.

Or you destroy his confidence if he gets owned up here and he realizes how far off he is, plus alienate other more deserving players who maybe don't get a callup
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2017 Posted August 16, 2017 Vladdy 3/4 with a triple and 4 RBI tonight
jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2017 Posted August 16, 2017 When was the last time we had a position player prospect of Vlad's caliber? Also, who the hell is Danny Jansen....?
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2017 Posted August 16, 2017 When was the last time we had a position player prospect of Vlad's caliber? Travis Snider, but let's not talk about that.
RotatorCuff Verified Member Posted August 16, 2017 Posted August 16, 2017 Travis Snider, but let's not talk about that. I was thinking more along the lines of Delgado or Shawn Green era hype. Snider put up great minor league numbers but was a bad body player, not very athletic compared to V Jr.

Snider failed because a) injuries strikeouts (maybe) c) anger issues d) Cito (not compatible with c) I followed Snider's career pretty closely. He was injured every year. In 2010, he had the most significant injury. In may 2010 Snider and Bautista were heating up, they were playing the texas rangers. Snider hit one 430 feet into the second deck, then he left the game his next at bat. He had messed up his wrist on a routine swing. That was really it for his Blue Jays career. He hung around for a couple of years after that, making 3 week cameos, then was traded for Brad Lincoln.

I've only heard that he's going to slow down and his body isn't that great.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2017 Posted August 16, 2017 Vladdy Jr. is athletic? I've only heard that he's going to slow down and his body isn't that great. Yeah Vladdy has a big butt and some boobage. He ain't exactly Giancarlo Stanton.
Ray Verified Member Posted August 16, 2017 Posted August 16, 2017 Vladdy Jr.'s MiLB career thus far: 164 games played. .298/.395/.454 with a .858 OPS, 97BB, 90K, 16HR and 23SB Kid has more walks than strikeouts, and he doesn't turn 19 until next March. Insane.
RotatorCuff Verified Member Posted August 16, 2017 Posted August 16, 2017 Yeah Vladdy has a big butt and some boobage. He ain't exactly Giancarlo Stanton. agreed he's not stanton, but pretty different than Snider body type wise, sure he may end up at Firstbase because he might get too big to play 3rd. I thought the original question was when did the Blue Jays last have this much hype for a hitting prospect and I thought delgado/green. Some of you guys maybe too young to remember those days but both were really looked to be future stars for the Jays and they both were. I guess at the time I didn't really buy into the Snider hype, I had hope for him but that was it.

Provided you maintain your arm strength, I feel like you have to really, really get big to be too big for 3B. Look it how bad it had to get for Pablo Sandoval?
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2017 Posted August 16, 2017 e) Too much meat in his diet. Not healthy. That was ridiculous. He'd grill himself an entire Family BBQ's worth of food for himself daily and for each meal.

Tellez has been raking in August (slash line of ,391/,472/,478/,950) Can you justify a 40 man spot on him next year? Are you going to give him pinch hit or spot starts over Teoscar, Smith or Lourdes that are already on the 40? Do you prioritize him over a Connor Greene? Danny Jansen? Pentecost? Jays have 44 on the 40 man right now with the 5 on the 60 day. Do they have enough guys that can be moved to the 60 day (I honestly don't know the injuries I've been away) Does it leave them a roster crunch for next year? I think you leave Rowdy exposed to the Rule 5 next year and hope he doesn't get claimed.
