Well what the f*** happens to the other one. I need some context.

I'm just saying if you were only allowed to keep 1 of them who would you take? Basically who do you think is the better prospect/has the better career.

I wouldn't trade Bo and Vladdy for Trout. Trout at $33M+ means JD cannot be resigned.

If Jays are gonna spend that much AAV on one player, just resign JD and keep Bo and Vladdy.

I do love me some JD but....... Trout>>>JD

Sure, but there is no way the surplus value of Bo and Vladdy is less than the difference between Trout and JD

You get Trout for an extra 2 years at $33M each. He's worth close to $80M per year.

Last time I checked JD doesn't play CF.

I feel like you don't understand exactly how good Mike Trout is. You know he's still 25 years old right?

Position is irrelevant, Trout is the best player in baseball and signed to an amazing contract through his prime years. Donaldson is fantastic, another elite player, but he's 31 and will get a ton of money once he becomes a free agent, potentially similar or more than Trout's deal. It's a no-brainer.

Angels could get a haul for trout that could make a rebuild much quicker. But trading Trout would be one of the hardest things to do though.

Getting fair value in prospects on a young MVP-calibre player is almost an impossible task. Compressing that many wins into a single roster spot without the catastrophic injury risk of a pitcher is just too valuable.

Historically teams almost never win these sorts of trades. A classic example is Miguel Cabrera. Or more recently Donaldson. Neither of those guys is nearly as valuable as Trout.

No, I understand how good he is and still feel JD + Bo + Vladdy > Trout through the end of Trout's contract at which point cost controlled Bo + Vladdy >> Trout

You're still assuming that Bo and Vlad turn into stars, which there is 0 guarantee of.

Show me where I made that assumption. Both Bo and Vlad would currently grade as B+ or A- IMO, future MLB regular.

Wasn't long ago I was one of the few saying no to Vladdy for Cutch.

There's no guarantee Trout will continue at this level, either - could get injured, lose speed and range, etc.

True, but the likelihood of prospects failing are probably greater than Trout falling off a cliff or getting a career ending injury.

To each his own of course. In a vacuum. .. Trout for Vlad and Bichette is a no brainer, but as we all know, MLB isn't a vacuum.

I think Jim was making the assumption of resigning JD so that is why I said that. Obviously it doesn't really matter anyway since JD is a FA after next year.

In a vacuum, Trout for Vlad and Bichette is a no brainer. My argument all along is resign JD and retain Vlad and Bichette is the better option.

Yeah but what kind of odds can one seriously give on re-signing JD? If you had Trout, there's a 100% chance you control Trout. That's a lot better to have in your pocket than a probably no better than 50% shot at re-signing JD (and a nearly 100% probability that the terms would be worse than Trout even if you did).

JD could probably be had for the $33M / yr you would be paying Trout anyway. And you retain two potential stars, the top prospects in the Jays system since the Lansing 3. Retaining those two is well worth the ~2-3 annual WAR difference we can expect between JD and Trout for the next few years.

And isn't a perpetual contender the goal, and isn't retaining and developing prospects the key to this?

So here is a list of guys I like to follow in the minnors (when they are not injured). What pitchers should I add to the mix and what players are missing?

Vladimir Guerrero Jr

Bo Bichette

Anthony Alford

Danny jannsen

Max Pentecost

Lourdes Gurriel

Pentecost had been raking. I found some interview on Jays Journal that intrigued me about his potential at first base awhile back -- (http://calltothepen.com/2017/05/25/toronto-blue-jays-max-pentecost-adding-versatility-thriving-dunedin/) but, he has been put on the 7-day DL so I'm already nervous. He just can't stay healthy. Was optimistic he would join New Hampshire after Saturday.

He's in non-prospect situation, now.

As for trading Bo and Vladdy for Trout?...in other words "greatly affecting the health of the Jays farm system or depth! This could make the Jays of the future the Angels of today! Even with Trout, the Angles the last few yrs anf the foreseeable yrs suck!

lol... or...??? A 25 year old beast... with a core. Like are you guys blind to how good he is... with a ton of money to replace said expiring contracts, Angels don't have our flexibility. Not to mention they'd tell us to f*** off.

Leblebijian was one of the players featured in this week's "Knocking down the door" report on MLBTR. Probably should be giving him a chance given the noodle bat options we have at 2B right now.

Injuries throughout the Blue Jays’ infield have kept Ryan Goins busy—he’s started 40 of the team’s 63 games—but, as would’ve been expected, he’s not providing much offense (.605 OPS). A healthy return from Devon Travis, who is on the disabled list with a knee injury, would push him back to a bench role. But given Travis’ extensive injury history and without a current timetable for return, it could be a good time to give Leblebijian a look at second base.

The former 25th Round draft pick has a .310/.380/.518 slash line with eight homers and 11 doubles in his first 57 Triple-A games. While his International League numbers aren’t likely to carry over to the Majors, they’re interesting enough, along with his strong defensive ability, to find out if he’s capable of helping the Jays out now.

Is it just me, or does it feel like the Jays finally have a legit farm once again. Seems like we have great prospects all over the diamond too.

Yeah, not sure why we're not giving him a shot? I guess it would mean Goins is sent down or is he out of options?

Either way, he's earned a look at least. Dwight Smith Jr should be up and playing instead of Carrera to.

I think they've gotta be a bit careful with the 40 man roster at this point, they've added Smith Jr. and Alford already (neither of whom I assume they wanted to add quite this early).

Good insight. Shatkins do like to horde as many assets as possible, not that I have any issue with it. Still, it would be nice to see some potential in-house upgrades get a chance for some extended ABs up here.
