Has Sparkman been injured all season or did we actually trade something to the Royals so we could keep him in the minors?
Posted
Well we aren't exactly swimming in starting pitching depth, so probably a good idea to keep him stretched out in case he's needed for a spot start for some reason.

Except as a rule 5 pick he has to stay on the 25 man all year once he's off the DL - no chance he does that as a starter.

That's if we want to keep him of course. We could just send him back.

He's been injured as far as I know.

No I get that, but keep him stretched out so he can handle long mop up jobs and possibly start if needed. If he sticks in the pen it's likely as a long man.

Ahh I see. Well chances are he won't work out at the big league level anyway, but you never know maybe he can be Biagini Mark 2.

They might simply want Sparkman to pitch as many innings as possible during his rehab stint knowing that they can't assign him to the minors afterwards.

That makes sense.

He's suffering from really bad BABIP and LOB% in some games but is otherwise posting elite peripherals on top of strong stuff. He's really still among our best pitching prospects.

More from Longenhagen:

Thoughts

I had Danner in as a catcher, as well. He has rare power for the position, and I think he might stick back there once he starts working on it every day.

San Diego C Riley Adams (3) is a volatile college prospect with rare power for a catcher. He’s not a lock to stay behind the plate, nor is he one to avoid excessive strikeouts. If he remedies both he’s an impact regular.

So assuming we sign our Top 4 picks, where do those guys rank in our farm system?

Warmoth might be #5 for me after Vlad, Bo, Alford, and Reid-Foley. Rest are a bit of a question mark.

Rule 5 or not, he missed spring training. He needs as many reps as possible to get into game shape. We can always put stash him in the pen later.

Guerrero

Bo

Alford

SRF

Zeuch

Jansen

Gurriel

Warmoth goes here (back of top 10)

Urena

Tellez

Pentecost

Harris

Greene

Can argue for Pearson, Danner, Adams as high as this (low teens)

Leblebijian

Romano

Borucki

Maese

Jones

Biggio

Olivares

Pearson, Danner, Adams cannot be lower than this (low 20s)

McGuire

Perdomo

Zach Jackson

Mayza

Yennsy Diaz

Palacios

Woodman

Smith Jr.

Pruitt

J. Davis

Thomas

Rios

I'm sure I forgot some prospects. Not really in perfect order.

Nice list. I'd probably boost Romano up into the next group, but other than that, nice ordering.

It is a nice list.

We should add Mc Gregory Contreras. Despite him being a long ways away, I'd want to slot him in between Maese and Jones. Good potential.

Damn, we have a pretty sexy farm these days.

I can not stress enough how f***ing blessed we are to have this FO. I hope they stay here forever.

Agreed. We should actually get to keep most of these prospects and watch them develop.

Bo 3-3: 1B, 2B, HR so far

It's unreal how consistently dominant he has been.

He's 4-4 now... how do you not advance him. I have to think at the end of the first half of the MWL season he's going up. And that's coming up fast.

I think he and Vlad move up immediately after the all-star game, which is June 20.

If they both, hypothetically, continue the torrid pace in A+ or, dare I say, dial it up a notch, do they get a taste of AA before the season closes?

If you had to redo the 2016 MLB draft today does Bo go number 1?

I think he does, he's been that f***ing good.

I think it depends where he ranks amongst Moniak and the rest when the mid-reason top 100 comes out.

That said, he's certainly played like it.
