John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2017 Posted April 23, 2017 How good is the league Lansing plays in? Is what the hitters are doing for real or is it mainly a hitters league, so higher numbers are expected? Average age of hitters this year is 21.3 and the average OPS is .674. This year it's leaning towards pitchers so far. They're 18 and 19 and crushing the league averages. It's very impressive so far To keep tabs on the various leagues and whether they lean towards pitchers or hitters, I use http://www.baseball-reference.com/register/league.cgi?year=2017

Or just a guy?
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 I never heard of Bradley Jones. Any potential? Or just a guy? Not a lot of public scouting information. It's too early to get excited about a college draftee in A ball--he's a bit old for the MWL. It's not uncommon for random college players to succeed in the low minors. It's obvious he can hit to some extent. It's also really nice that he's playing around the diamond (1B/2B/3B); he's not just some pure 1B/DH profile. But, unless he starts clobbering A+ and AA, he's not even in the org top 20. And even if he hits a bit in the upper minors and has some defensive value or versatility, that might not make him a real MLB prospect. One old Jays prospect I could comp would be Brad Glenn, if you want a fringe college draftee example who did climb to ladder but flopped. So I would say - he has the potential to have some limited potential.

King Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 It's not like he's that old. Doesn't turn 22 until June. He could hypothetically advance quickly and be at/around/under age/level.
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 Look, if you want to get pumped about an 18th round, 100k player in A ball, go right ahead.

A little old but definitly interesting to see if he can make Blue Jays regret their decision of trading him.

43211234 Verified Member Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 That Mexican AAA team must score a lot of runs... The Mexican league is a crazy run environment. It's a weird league too, as it's officially a AAA league but the team aren't affiliated with MLB franchises.

Look man, the jays are 5-13 and the worst team in the league. Just tell me Bradley Jones is a mix of Goldy/Harper/Trout/Zobrist/Kershaw. I want to hear the sweet whispers of nothing.

My internal scouting report database has his velocity range as 89-94. Big developments for the Butt Stallions, if true.

Big developments for the Butt Stallions, if true. Just looked him up. Looks like fangraphs had him as an 89-92 guy who could hit 94 on occasion but they noted that if his frame developed he could see an uptick. He's probably worth a flyer in a deep dynasty league.
