Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 I let Martin Perez see the Jays lineup once around...then after 9 batters Colby Lewis is in. I wouldn't even put Holland on the roster. Good idea, but Tex will probably go with Gallardo/Hamels/Holland in that order
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 Most of the players on the jays are American you ignorant jackass , Kind of like Booing your own team, Jesus you are an idiot You do know that sometimes in the hockey playoffs, American crowds boo the Canadian anthem, even though many of their players are Canadian, right? I don't agree with booing other nation's anthems, nor something like God Bless America, period. I do have to think though, that if it had been Canada that had been attacked, there's no way in hell American stadiums would play the closest equivalent of either "God Save the Queen" or "The Maple Leaf Forever".

Or is there a way to get Price and Stroman 2 starts?
Mozzer Verified Member Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 Saaviour, I Can't see Stroman getting 2 but I think you nailed the rotation - but wouldn't be surprised if Dickey got the game 2 start.

Or is there a way to get Price and Stroman 2 starts? If Price goes on short rest, we could do October 8: Price October 9: Stroman October 11: Dickey or Estrada October 12: Price October 14: Stroman Stroman would still be on regular rest. Hopefully we'll sweep the series, and won't have to make that choice, since it would screw up the next series a little.

I can tell you that in grained into most Americans is a sense of superiority. When they are talking about "God Bless America", what they are really saying is "God only blesses America". They believe America is God's gift to the world. For a long time, they have been the center of the universe, economically speaking, military power, etc. Over the last decade or so, this is no longer true and a lot of Americans have a hard time dealing with it. As for the team made up of mostly US or Venezuelans or as Fallon ignorantly stated Dominicans, I don't really care. burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 The one thing that scares me with the Rangers is they have a great back end of that pen. Dyson, Kela, Tolleson are all very good vs RHB.

Now Texas on the other hand, I can definitely see them having a sense of superiority. Definitely on both sides of the coast, it's better and gets worst as you move away from the coasts. And as I said, with the economy the way it is, I think a lot of Americans are sobering up. But even here in SoCal, you see it. I don't know if you've been to Angels stadium when the Jays are in town. You start being more vocal with the let's go blue jays chant and you start hearing it. And this is supposed to within the family friendly confines of Big A not Chavez Ravine - there I'd guess they'll start pulling out their knives... Maybe it's just guys at my gym but I take so much flak for cheering the Jays or wanting to watch hockey on one of the TVs instead of the Lakers... the Lakers!! are you kidding me?? To them, a horrific Lakers game is still better than a hockey game. Granted a lot of that is good-natured but I still hear it...
art_vandelay275 Verified Member Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 Hamels, specifically, I want us to smash because he seemingly dislikes Canada. It would be nice to give him a real reason for that no-trade clause. I am not sure whether you are saying this tongue-in-cheek but now that you mention it, I think there's something to it. Prior to the trade deadline, there were a lot of reports out here that the Dodgers or Angels were targeting him. I read/heard more than once that he wasn't going to the Jays because he is a California/surfer boy and would never want to live in Canada. Soon after that, there was the whole flak with Hamels saying the club hasn't approached him about playing in TO and that he would be "open". After the deadline, they interviewed some GMs and all of them basically said "we knew he wasn't going to TO"
flafson Verified Member Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 Not sure why people are happy about this matchup, so what if they are lefties? Good lefties still own us, we mash against the mediocre ones. And Gallardo has owned us this season. Beltre and Fielder can have a field trip against us if they are on their game, it's not as easy as many here believe.

2lowitzki Verified Member Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 What I'm thinking is that the game time for the ALDS is likely to be in the afternoon. Among four teams which has home advantage, Toronto is the Eastern most city. If that happens, I won't be surprised if we see 12pm or 1pm start for game 2, on the day when all four games play.

No one thinks it will be easy, or even that the Jays have an overwhelming chance at victory. It's that the Blue Jays are the overall stronger team in this matchup in nearly every respect. Think about how nervous you are about sending Price or Stroman against the Rangers. Now think how nervous you'd be sending anyone other than Hamels against the Blue Jays lineup. Of all the pitching staffs out there, it's the Rangers' who are the likeliest to get smoked by Donaldson, Edwin, Jose, and friends.
500LevelSTH Verified Member Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 They will not play god bless america in Toronto. RC has a 7th inning tradition, and MLB would never play a US patriotic song in Canada over Take me out to Ballgame, period. It. Aint. Happening. They may not show Lets Go Blue Jays, but if they do show or play a song for TV it will be Take Me Out. Nonsense talk otherwise. MLB will not do anything that could be construed as favorable to one team, or create an environment that would look ugly on TV...other than run out of pitcher s at an allstar game
intrigid Verified Member Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 Not sure why people are happy about this matchup. Weeks ago I posted that Texas would be the best team for the Jays to face in the ALCS. Texas barely finished with a positive run differential this year, and their 3rd order expected win-loss record says that they should have finished with a worse record than Oakland. That said, I'm nervous as hell about this series, and there's no other team that would make me feel differently.

It's the playoffs, no matter what team you're facing you're never comfortable. Each team has great players. When it comes to Texas their starters are the least intimidating to me (who cares about Gallardo owning us in his 13 IPs, he's not a great pitcher) and their bullpen isn't anything special. We are the more talented team and you have to feel good about that.
