Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 It looks dangerous. I would have to see the finished product. It just looks like it could have some problems. Well of course it looks dangerous in its current state, the rest of the field is a block of concrete, that's why we have turf. I trust that these people know what they're doing.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 I take it you have done this a lot lol Concrete yes. Anything to do with this no lol. Concrete and Baseball fields usually don't mix. Its an unusual set up and will be interesting to see how it works

GD Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 I would appreciate some insight on this matter from the Bill James of pavement
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2016 Author Posted February 26, 2016 Donaldson had an interesting comment saying if it plays like Tampa he will hate it. I just really hope it isn't a toll on player's bodies and the bounces aren't ridiculous.

SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 It looks like a kid's sandbox at the moment. So if they stopped now, we'd have issues going into the season. Good thing they plan to continue the upgrade until complete. Whew. #notreally

Sorrow Verified Member Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 What's a form? Are you asking because you don't know or because you think Jonn doesn't know? If it's the prior I'll explain. ll

Yorkshire Blue Jay Verified Member Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 Well we have at least tried to look at Tampa's dirt infield and improve upon the problems they have encountered, the dirt infield at the Trop is only 5 inches deep whereas we've gone deeper (to 12 inches) to try to create as normal a dirt infield as is possible. https://sports.vice.com/ca/article/inside-the-blue-jays-switch-to-a-dirt-infield

o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 Yeah, I was asking Jonn, I know what a form is, lol. worst job I ever worked on was doing Rebar mid winter where it was -10F. worked less than 10 minutes before coming back in to heat up for at least 30 minutes. can't wear gloves tying the Rebar and it almost burns your fingers to hold. HATED THAT JOB!! It paid well but it really gave me incentive to get a better job.
nextyear Verified Member Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 Thanks for this post G-Snarls. I was somewhat puzzled as to why they required forms and were required to pour concrete. This older "Stephen R Brooks" tweet, prior to the tweet that G-snarls posted explains why: (to make the cut-out dimensions accurate)

Rusty_Savage Verified Member Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 God that looks so dangerous. It also doesn't look like the finished product
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 Not a ton of time left before the home opener...
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 Lets hope this science project doesn't end the ultimate dream of Grass at our "Baseball Stadium".
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 God that looks so dangerous. I don't know why you keep saying it looks dangerous. Finished product won't have any sharp edges obviously. The dirt will be flush with the turf
Sorrow Verified Member Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 God that looks so dangerous. That looks how I think anyone thought it would look. You're going to have 3+ inches of turf underneath the clay so that someone doesn't catch it and pull it off the concrete corners.
flafson Verified Member Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 God that looks so dangerous. Reminds me of a certain sprinkler...
WONDERBAT Verified Member Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 Lets hope this science project doesn't end the ultimate dream of Grass at our "Baseball Stadium". It's always been a pipe dream. It's a project Beeston started that will likely never get finished, the cost that was associated with it kept ballooning on them and from the short remarks that Shipiro has talked about he didn't sound very optimistic.
