glory Old-Timey Member Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 Am I the only one who wouldn't mind if Shapiro blew up the entire front office and started fresh? That's my hope, but I'm afraid Rogers might force him to bring AA back. Shapiro is a smart dude, and is someone who could build the organization the right way from the ground up. I don't want to keep AA based on this season and then go back to the same old s*** in 2016 when they have 2 starters under contract in MLB/AAA combined and the 30-something core is a year older/more expensive.

I think you are overreacting to a bad game against the Red Sox.
labadee Verified Member Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 Of note in the Shapiro signing...his first unofficial action is the unofficial hiring of a Sport psychologist (happens to be the person I shadowed at IMG). He'll be based out of Florida and there is talk of hiring another in Toronto. This comes about 5 or 6 months after one of our threads talked about how crazy it was that the Jays and about 20 other clubs do not have a club owned mental conditioning team. someone push hutchinson to the front of the line
glory Old-Timey Member Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 I think you are overreacting to a bad game against the Red Sox. Lol, I think the Jays are winning the division this year. That doesn't have anything to do with that I wrote above. I like the thought of creating a front office that has a consistent plan as far as player development and how they value talent. I want the president, GM, and manager all to see eye to eye on that (similar to the Rays of years past). With the Jays payroll and resources, they could create a monster if executed properly. I don't see that happening with AA.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 Ya, I'd much rather see 20,000 empty seats. The atmosphere has been incredible, if you don't like it don't go. I haven't been to a game in Toronto since just before the deadline. I don't go to games, because that's the thing to do. Or because the team is winning. Pittsburgh, Detroit, Cleveland, New York have all been preferred destinations this year. Sure it would be intense to be at a great game with a packed house, but let's not pretend that these extra 20,000 screamers are actual fans.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 This idea gives me a raging throbber. How to sneak hot girl-on-girl action into the Rogers Center should give you a raging throbber. We need to work on some peoples priorities around here.

I am hoping that the M's go crazy and give AA a offer he can't refuse or one Rogers won't pony up for. I do think AA has made a lot of great moves but some of them were a result of fixing his own mistakes. - Tulo trade was great, but he should have never gotten Reyes in part of that Miami deal or traded Escobar. He gave up a lot of talent including Hech who is pushing 3 WAR defensive wiz short stop this season. - Martin signing is awesome... but wouldn't have been needed if he kept Gomes. You can say no one could have predicted Gomes' breakout but it was poor scouting / info on his part not to know how good of a defensive catcher he was and trading him for a reviler in Rogers when your main catcher was JPA that season - Dickey trade was one of the worst - Loosing Valencia for nothing was also terrible asset management. Locker room cancer? Fine say what ever BS Rogers media wants to report but he knew that then had more than enough time to get something back. The two trades I look positively at are Travis for Gose and Donaldson. He made good ones in the past too with Lawrie, Rasmus and getting rid of Wells contract. However the overall value the two bring opposed to what he gave up doesn't really work.

All else being equal a packed house is more fun. Although it's funny when bandwagoners try to talk ball. I was at a bar last night and these guys were talking about how great Colabello is lol.

P2F Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 Why is it always that the most uneducated fans are almost always the most argumentative? Just admit you don't know what you're talking about and move on. Ugh. (Referring to work friends)

I would say they're fans, just not as educated as dedicated fans/or even season ticket fans, it's good for the city of Toronto business's ie; restaurants/bars and hotels etc, not just in Toronto but to the 905's/Canada, etc. It's a good thing mate.

However the overall value the two bring opposed to what he gave up doesn't really work. Blah blah blah. Would you rather him have not learned from his mistakes? You could literally make this argument for 29 other GM's in baseball. Highlight the s***** trades, and roughly outline the good ones. It's pretty obvious that there would've been no Miami deal done without Reyes. To say he shouldn't have had him included and keep the $5M Escobar is for lack of a better word, retarded. Frankly, I'm sick and tired of hearing about the Marlins trade as an excuse to let go of AA. You also forgot to mention that a 3 WAR season from Hech would bring his WAR total to a whopping 1 (!) win above replacement in three years for Miami. As for Mark Buehrle? He'll likely end up with his third consecutive 2 win season for the Jays. Let's get rid of the guy who has brought in the AL MVP and second best SS in the world for the foreseeable future all because he may have lost some surplus value while Paul Beeston pushed him in that direction. AA has shown the ability to creatively add impact talent at the Major League level. You can say what you want about his past mistakes, but with guidance from Shapiro I do believe this front office can be very successful.
