thatoneguy Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Stroman is the kind of guy that every team wants to have, all-around good sport/ambassador for the game, great ability/talent (obviously) and an A+ work ethic. Glad he is with us as he is the type of person/player that can make others want to come here and/or stay.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 If he's throwing already every 5th day, what's the difference? Stroman is an incredibly hard worker, I have little doubt that he's been doing all he can to get him arm up to snuff. He wants to start, I'm sure he's able to do so. I hope he does start and he comes back strong. I just think they are going to baby him, ultimately it will all depend on how his knee feels and if his rehab goes. (Hopefully no hiccups) Gibby has already said that the Dr. has not signed off on him returning yet.

Any chance that when he is back they start him for 3-5 innings depending on pitch count and have Hutch come in for him. 2 Starters for 1 game. Not needing to have a deep pitching performance from either.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Just make him the long reliever during Hutchison starts. He'll get a starter's workload that way as well.

Again, pitchers already do that in MLB in the offseason. I am not arguing what should happen I am arguing what will happen. Based on how MLB teams usually handle these things, as well as Gibby's comments earlier this week on Fan590, indications are that he'd come back in the pen. You are right though, Stroman will probably do what he can to convince them otherwise.

Throwing off flat ground is a lot different than off a mound though. Also, its not about the arm so much as it is about the knee/legs. Stroman uses his lower half an insane amount to generate that much velo that he needs to build on that. I don't think people realize how much pitchers use their legs when pitching.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 dont see why his pitch limit can't get up to ~90 by early Sept..... good enough for 6 innings of StroShow every 5 days!
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 It would be idiotic to have your 2nd best pitcher come in as a reviler. Oh he will revile... (JK, obv typo)

Laika Community Moderator Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Just stretch him out in the big leagues. Have him piggy back with Hutch for a couple or starts - he'd be replacing Hutch anyway, in all likelihood

We also have one hell of a pen now. 5 innings would be great for a 5th starter slot as long as the other 4 go deep regularly
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Well let's hope. I don't think we can take out Estrada though. Who do you replace? Hutch? one or the other, next 5-6 weeks will determine it i'm expecting Hutch to join the parade of stellar pitching performances

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2015 Author Posted August 5, 2015 Stroman is a demi God. Thanks you, Tyler Beede?
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 I can't see why Stroman couldn't be able to start by the playoffs. We'll go through the rotation 5 times in September. Have him piggy back off one of Hutch or Estrada. Couldn't he be stretched out something like this... 1st - 2 innings Relief; 2nd - 3 innings Relief; 3rd - 4/5 inning Start; 4th - 5/6 inning Start; 5th - 7 innings?
Ehjays Verified Member Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 I don't think they want to stretch him out that fast. However, if they followed your schedule. He would piggy back Estradas starts for the 1st and second example. the rest Hewould be with Hutch.
93 Jays Verified Member Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 Osuna - CloZa Sanchez Lowe Stroman Hawkins Hendriks Schulz Cecil Loup? That's a sick looking pen. Cecil or Hendriks to the rotation if STRO can't be stretched out in time? Guess they'd have to be stretched out a bit too, so I think it's a decision that got to be made pretty quickly right around the time Stro stars throwing. Amazing the team that has been put together with it's most talented pitching piece out of the mix. If he was healthy now, this team would be collectively shoving it's schlong in the WHO(rioles) mouths.
43211234 Verified Member Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 Stroman probably isn't even an upgrade to the pen if he's a reliever. Stretch him out.
baubau Verified Member Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 Stroman is a demi God. Thanks you, Tyler Beede? Noah is a demi God. Thank you Paxton! ..oh wait. :'(
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 You don't even really need to stretch him out that far. If he can make some 5 inning, 80 pitch starts for us, that would be fantastic.
xposbrad Verified Member Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 Well let's hope. I don't think we can take out Estrada though. Who do you replace? Hutch? Not even a question you replace Hutch. Estrada keeps us in games. Hutch needs to find his groove like in the pen or something.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 Couldn't he continue to get stretched out in extended? Like others have mentioned I'd rather have him as a starter on Sep 20 than a reliever on Sep 5th. I think you have to evaluate how he does though. If he doesn't look like he will be able to take the workload as a starter just have him have a few appearances out of the pen. We really don't even know how effective he could be. Who's to say he is the same pitcher as last year.
baubau Verified Member Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 Who's to say he is the same pitcher as last year. What? He hurt his knee, not his arm.
Grant Friesen Verified Member Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 Even if he's ready, I think the pen is the best spot for him. Wouldn't want to rush a young guy, even though he's full of piss and vinegar and wants to contribute. If he's needed in the playoffs (yes the mother f***ing playoffs sir), easing him into an inning here and there would help the team and would reduce the risk of any set backs. However, he could be used as a starter only if one of the 5 go down ... bit of a depth issue, no?
