ROFL, Price IS pitching even if the wildcard game is the same day he pitched to secure our wildcard berth. Also winning the division has a lot less value these days b/c of the second wildcard and given what KC and SanFran did last yr.

No, no he's not. If he pitches game 162, there's no chance he's starting that wild card game. None.

And you're on crack if you think the division has LESS value these days. It's massive - from a playoff success standpoint and an organizational standpoint. You aren't even guaranteed a home playoff game (and therefore millions in ticket revenue) if you are the second wild card team.

This is baseball my friend, powerhouse pitchers and teams lay stinkers all the time. Obviously we want to catch the Yankees to avoid a situation like that and increase our odds of going further into the playoffs by playing a full series. I like Buehrle behind Price, he's a solid pitcher and has big game experience and believe it or not I'm even ok with Dickey out there starting game 3, he's a different and better pitcher later on in the year (as his statistics have shown).

At this point it's Trout and the Angels we'd be taking on, the Astros might very well be taking that division.

Well if team moves forward fully confident they will crush any team in a 1 game wildcard, they most probably catch the Yanks anyway. If they aren't sure, we probably don't even make the WC.

And doesn't it just feel like there's no way Stroman isn't coming back? I have to put the odds at 70%+ that we see him in September the way he's been working and talking about it.

The Stroman thing is exciting and all but with Hawkins and Lowe it is hard to find someone he'd replace in the bullpen. He almost surely won't be worked back in as a starter according to Gibbons. He is a great pitcher but there will be rust and I'd be pretty nervous using him in any key situation after all that time off.

With expanded rosters in September he won't need to replace anyone. Knowing this organization I could see them trying to stretch him out so he could start in the playoffs. If he can come back he will be used.

We are a better team now than they are now. I think that's undisputable. But we spotted them a 6 game head start. Will be interesting to see. We certainly need them to start losing some games in bunches and/or beat them head to head a lot. I am optimistic though and pretty excited. I am not going to let past season failures color me either. This is a very different team than we've had the last 3 years.

being serious here...what do they have to call up? Some relievers, Thole and Pompey. No team will get less usage from the expanded rosters than Toronto.

Rather slim pickings. Roemon fields will be up for his speed off the bench.

You're right about expanded rosters. Gibbons has already hinted he probably wouldn't be stretched out if he came back.

Fangraphs says we have a 16.7% chance of winning the AL East. 40% chance of making the Wild Card.

So we can win the division but we need some help from the Yankees.

I assume Matt Hauge will be called up hes on the 40. Who needs to be added on the 40 by next year?

Not much left from that 2011 draft. Robson and Lopes are the two highest draftees remaining. Not sure about international signees

Roemon Fields would have to come up right? Is there another speedster? Maybe even Anthony Alford, for late inning speed? I just imagine guys like Smoak, EE or Colobello getting on base in the 9th and having to replace them in order to avoid DP's or get into scoring position. Andy Burn is another guy I could see up.

In my opinion, they're 6 games back with 13 head-to-head games remaining. That could make or break the chances of winning the division alone. Each team will face others of varying strengths. If the Jays continue to play hard, win most of their series, keep it close in the standings, then there is a chance they can over take the Yankees. It won't be easy, and it's probably unlikely unless the Yankees go on a losing streak while the Jays go on a winning streak at the same time, but I wouldn't rule it out entirely. This is baseball. Anything can happen. Look at how some of the teams went from worst to first, pulled off some amazing trades, were considered out of it and then somehow wound up back in a race. Two months left to play in the regular season. The Jays just have to win as many games as they can and when they face the Yankees, win the series against them.

The Yankees are not going to keep playing like they have lately. The jays are a more talented team, they are definitely catchable. 13 games against them have to take care of business.

Its very unlikely, they gotta 10-3 against the Yankees alone and then keep up with them for the rest of the season.

Maybe they'll need to keep up to us ;)

If we get Stroman back for the stretch, I think we have a really decent chance.

that would be the pipe dream.

for the first time in years we have a full team to play with in August. If Travis can come back healthy our starting 9 is one of the best in baseball. a couple pinch runners for sept will be enough. Just can't have any major injuries.

Posted

Our starting 9, is already THE best in baseball, with or without Travis.

As for the Yankees, as soon as Texeira and A-Rod realize it's no longer 1999, and start playing like the old geezers they are, we'll catch up no problem.

I think the Jays will finish the season seven games ahead of them.

I can't believe we got an ace, two solid relievers, and a massive upgrade at shortstop. I would like one more depth starter, but otherwise, team is looking great.

If he starts throwing as soon as he finishes school this week. He might be able to pitch out of the pen by mid september. I have no idea if hes even been medically cleared. But he keeps talking about September and its August so will see.

If he's 90% and can throw some key innings out of the pen in sept... wow!!

There are like 50 other games.......6 game leads have evaporated in weeks.

I guess math is not your strong side. they need at least 5 games a week giving them 45 more wins. that will get them to the playoffs and win the division.

Only 40%for the wildcard? That seems lowconsidering where we are and how good the roster is.

but 100% has to be spread over at least 5 teams with a reasonable chance
