Brenner Verified Member Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 So if someone like Shields is traded through waivers to the Yankees, do the Jays put a claim in and block the deal?

DickeyJohnsonWang Verified Member Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 it was at 7 last week, now 5.5. Ideally we somehow gain a game before the series and go in only 4.5 back but at the very least let's stay 5.5 back come Friday. Yanks have red sox so can only see them maybe losing one if we're lucky. and we'd have to sweep the twins who are a considerably better team than BOS
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 if no one else does, the jays almost have to. Can the Padres dump the salary on the Jays though or do they have to work a trade?
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 As a Jays fan, aiming for anything less than a division win and home field advantage through the playoffs is unacceptable. f*** the Yankees, the Jays are only 8.5 behind those weak-ass Royals.
LTR Verified Member Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 (edited) Let's just sweep the 13 games? problem solved, nice and eezee Putting that aside for a sec. If we win everyone of Price's starts we prob still lose the division. Edited August 4, 2015 by LTR
Brenner Verified Member Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Can the Padres dump the salary on the Jays though or do they have to work a trade? That is up the Padres, will depend on what the Yankees are offering. That is, if the Yankees are willing to eat all the salary then the Jays will have to also, or add prospects.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Should also be noted the Jays and Yanks have weak skeds down the stretch (.499 opp win% for the Jays, .490 for the Yanks). Of course, the Yanks will depend on A-Rod, Tex, Gardner or Ellsbury staying healthy. Their pitching staff has a huge hole right now with Pineda's injury.
TRM Verified Member Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 I guess math is not your strong side. they need at least 5 games a week giving them 45 more wins. that will get them to the playoffs and win the division. We're still all waiting for an explanation here o2
Masterbather Verified Member Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Jays will be in first place before Labour Day.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 We're still all waiting for an explanation here o2 Its very unlikely, they gotta 10-3 against the Yankees alone and then keep up with them for the rest of the season. There are like 50 other games.......6 game leads have evaporated in weeks. I guess math is not your strong side. they need at least 5 games a week giving them 45 more wins. that will get them to the playoffs and win the division. jays have 55 games left. 13 against NY.... how the f*** are there 50 other games left? math dude.
baloojayz Verified Member Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Putting that aside for a sec. If we win everyone of Price's stats we prob still lose the division. Look at it like this. If we win all 13 against the Yankees, they will be 7.5 games behind us with 13 games less than we have now to make up that ground. Hopefully the O's f*** off along the way and we are set!

TRM Verified Member Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 jays have 55 games left. 13 against NY.... how the f*** are there 50 other games left? math dude. You're missing the point. I get that part, but the next part of what you said is insane and where you lost everyone (and evidently struggle with math also). First of all, 45 wins is like an .800 clip, which is totally unfeasible. Secondly, that would leave them at just shy of 100 wins, which would almost certainly win them the division. In fact, it would probably get them to pass the Royals and Cardinals and have the best record in baseball. The notion that the Jays need to win 5 a week (or 45 total) is mad. In fact, 35 probably gets them the division, as long as they were to go like 8-5 against the Yanks. At this point, 30 more wins probably gets them in as the second wild card.

We play 7 of those 13 games at Yankee Stadium. I'll be satisfied if we go 7-6.
Trouba95 Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 We're going to need 50-54 wins at home considering how we play on the road.
baloojayz Verified Member Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 I'll be satisfied if we go 7-6 vs. the Yankees because I don't really expect much more. We gotta outperform them somewhere in the schedule. As unrealistic as beating them 10+ times sounds, it is likely the easiest route we can take.
LTR Verified Member Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 We gotta outperform them somewhere in the schedule. As unrealistic as beating them 10+ times sounds, it is likely the easiest route we can take. In actuality, it's probably the hardest.

We'll probably lose 3 of those 5 at Yankee Stadium (4-3) and then go 4-2 at home.
Trouba95 Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Do we face Nova/Tanaka this weekend?
baloojayz Verified Member Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 In actuality, it's probably the hardest. If we go 7-6 vs the Yankees, we will have to go 28-14 against other opponents to tie them according to roW%. I see what you mean though

NY has 45 other games. you say 35 more is enough. if we go 7-6 against NY that means jays go 29-13 of those other 42 and NY would have to go 23-19..... what 19 games do you see NY losing? NY schedule is better than ours.

LTR Verified Member Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Yankees could knock us out of play-off contention all together, highly doubt that now that we have Price, etc... but crazier things have happened.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Yankees could knock us out of play-off contention all together, highly doubt that now that we have Price, etc... but crazier things have happened. Price doesn't have a pretty record against NY. just sayin...

baloojayz Verified Member Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 We need to go on a run right now. Hopefully the most unrealistic assumption in all of this is that the Yankees keep winning, they are bound to take a week or two off here they've been on quite a tear.
LTR Verified Member Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Price doesn't have a pretty record against NY. just sayin... Even worse, the Yankees are crushing lefties this year. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=0&type=1&season=2015&month=13&season1=2015&ind=0&team=0,ts&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0 I know people don't go by these samples, neither do I really, but looks like the Yankees also feast on Price, for the most part http://dailybaseballdata.com/cgi-bin/dailyhit.pl?date=808#game1

They have passed us in HR. Their AVG is only 5 points behind now.
