KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 People are underestimating the role that Boyd has, he's valuable pitching depth that I would rather throw out than someone like Doubront. Lack of depth has been a problem that anthopoulos has kept pushing on himself. If someone goes down there's a problem. I'm not so sure that in 2015, Boyd is any better of an option than Randy Wolf or Liam Hendriks. Might even be worse and Norris simply wasn't turning it around quickly enough and wasn't really a good option either. Might look like a bad trade as soon as next year but I don't see any big issue for 2015.
baloojayz Verified Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Franchise crippling though? Is Max Scherzer going to bring the Nats to their knees? I doubt it. I agree with you that contracts like that are ill-advised though. So David Price is basically like a really hot model? You break the bank to spend a night, but don't go long term? So we got it right?
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Right now it looks ok, but it can easily turn into a Justin Verlander scenario. Oh for sure. As I said it's ill-advised. But without knowing anything about future payroll (and after the Tulo trade you can't tell me payroll projections are down right now) or what an extension for Price would even look like I don't think it's fair to call it franchise crippling.
JaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 We still have Gibbons as manager. Like giving an old lady the keys to the Porsche lol! OK, I really did laugh at that one. I'll give you that.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Leake, May, Fiers, Gallardo, Roark all could still fill a need.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Get a LF and keep Pompey in the org. Maybe let him stew and come up next year.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 This is so much better than Cincinnati got for Cueto. And that was a good deal for them! I don't understand Norris + Alford. With Boyd in, plus another arm, it has too be much larger.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 best thing that happened for the Jays from a PR point of view is that the rumours included Alford.

IBTrini Verified Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 I am so conflicted. I think I could live with losing Norris, but not more than that. But DAVID f***ING PRICE. We better make the playoffs. I am conflicted also however getting Price as a rental does not work for me. There are still other holes to fill (especially LF) to have a reasonable chance at the WC so unless he will be extended (and I can live with that) I will change my vote for Anthopoulos to stay. If you have to give up good talent you better be replacing that void with good talent as well - in other words, an extension.

Yes, but when you get guys like tulo and say that you wanna stay competitive for a while, you don't add a handicap to your future, especially when the rental doesn't guarantee a one game playoff, let alone an ALDS berth for this year.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 With the exception of his infinite patience with Sanchez, AA doesn't seem to forgive bad seasons from prospects and that's what he was getting from Labourt and Norris. If it wasn't for the fact that Boyd is having an awesome season, this would look like a high profile version of the J.A. Happ trade.
Governator Community Moderator Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 2 months of Price Let us dream, it could be 3.

Yeah I'm surprised that AA went the rental route too.

Yeah it definitely allowed for a sigh of relief when he wasn't included. But also from a PR point of view how many fans even know who Anthony Alford is? Less than 5%?
jays76 Verified Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Just a week ago I told you to bet the Jays...odds went down by 20 points today. Come on man I tried to make you rich. I did bet the Jays. I have the Jays, Royals, Dodgers, Cards and Astros to win their divisions. I also have the Patriots, Packers, Seahawks, and Colts to win theirs in the NFL. Just a longshot parlay but if that happens I win 150k.

We are so good everywhere else that LF is really a minor concern that is instantly alleviated by calling up Dalton. I'd like a Fiers or Kennedy and then I can positively say this team can wreck s***.

Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 WOW! So... if last year you told me the jays would have Price, Tulo, Donaldson and martin.. I hate rental players too high of a price for a few months. This is a judge in a few months deal.
