BTS Community Moderator Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 I don't think it's as simple as just plugging in the ZiPS projections and calling Tulo a $60 million asset. Projections are agnostic of his injury history and the Rockies are in a better position than any other team to project how his hip will effect his performance long term. He certainly hasn't been himself this year. If they flip Reyes off for a decent prospect, I think this ends up pretty good for Colorado.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 I'd lead with Travis and prioritize Smoak over Encarnacion. 1) Devon Travis 2) Josh Donaldson 3) Jose Bautista 4) Justin Smoak 5) Edwin Encarnacion 6) Troy Tulowitzki 7) Russell Martin 8) Chris Colabello / Kevin Pillar 9) Kevin Pillar / Dalton Pompey Lol terrible. On what planet does Smoak bat ahead of Tulo? Top of the order should be: Martin Donaldson JB Tulo EE Or JB JD Martin Tulo EE
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Good time to remind people that Pompey is a switch hitter. Remember before the season started we had 4 hitters that could switch hit? ;/
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Lol terrible. On what planet does Smoak bat ahead of Tulo? Top of the order should be: Martin Donaldson JB Tulo EE Or JB JD Martin Tulo EE Nope your dumb lol

jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 I would like to see a thread where everyone posts if they think it was either.... Good trade...Or bad trade. So in three years, if it doesn't work out, only those people that said it was a bad deal get to complain... And vice versa, if you say it's a bad trade and it works out well.. Then you can STFU altogether. Let's see just how smart some people are... lol. http://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/threads/5117-Play-GM-Tulo-deal
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Even a good lefty bat off the bench would help late in games when you start to care about L/R matchups more. Though most of our RHB's hit righties just fine

fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 So let me get this straight, we traded Reyes, Hoffmann, overhyped Castro and some Jesus dude for Tulo? I'm happy And you saw the offer that we gave to Carassco, right now you see that Hoffman and Castro don't net you an Ace like people thought. People were throwing Hoffman + Sanchez for Hamels trade ideas here. They're not worth THAT much. Kudos AA for getting rid of that bad Reyes contract and slotting in a current superstar in there

Yeah from Colorado's perspective you can't really give the deal a final grade until we see what they do with Reyes. But getting a good prospect for him isn't going to be an easy task unless they eat some money IMO. We shall see, but right now they traded Tulo for 2 good but not elite prospects and a bad contract. You could make a good argument that the Reds got a better package for a half season of Cueto than the Rockies got for Tulo.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 How on earth has AA managed to deal the contracts of Vernon Wells and Jose Reyes? ninja?

It's obvious that the Rockies don't view Tulo as an above-average player on the remainder of his contract, and were pleased to rid themselves of the commitment. Are they right? We'll know in 2-3 years.
King Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Tinoco isn't a scrub, by the way (as I've rreadin here). He's a helium prospect, which you give up in a second for Tulo, but its besides the point. from baseball america Tinoco is a very savvy addition to this trade for the Rockies. He’s much further away than Hoffman or Castro, but his stuff is similar as he has the potential to have two above-average or better pitches and he has a clean delivery with some remaining projection.*Tinoco has what what one scout described as an idea pitcher’s frame at 6-foot-4, and a few pounds more than his listed 190. He pitches off a 92-97 mph fastball that comes out of the hand easy with very little noticeable effort. He has shown the ability to maintain 94-95 mph deep into games recently. His slider gives him a second above-average pitch as he has demonstrated the ability to locate it in the zone or bury it when he gets ahead in the count. His changeup isn’t as developed but he’ll flash an average offering every now and then.
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Let's not give AA too much credit. After all, he is the guy who took on the Reyes contract in the first place.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Hawkins has also been excellent since coming back from injury this year.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Wat. You think his stint as a Closer here didn't improve his stock? Watch them not stretch him and use him as a ML reliever

Watch them not stretch him and use him as a ML reliever You called him overhyped.. Don't go all strawman on me He's literally the last thing from overhyped right now, you can see it clearly ITT hes being quite underrated

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Jon Morosi #BlueJays working to trade for a starting pitcher. Ian Kennedy one of the many options they're considering.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Cole Hamels wouldn't waive his no-trade clause... he has nothing to do with the value of Troy Tulowitzki and Jeff Hoffman. I didn't say that I said no way the Phillies would take Sanchez + Hoffman for Hamels straight up
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 How could you possibly know that? I bet they would have, if Hamels were to waive his no-trade. I bet Hamels would waive it now.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Jon Morosi #BlueJays press conference set for 1 pm, per @FAN590. Wonder what they'll talk about . . . #Tulo
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 There's something to be said for someone that can admit their mistakes and correct them. Far too often GM's are stubborn... Gal in live with their draft picks or acquisitions, and don't admit when they don't pan out. Can't say that here. is he correcting his mistake or making the exact same mistake again? This deal and all from this point until probably next year are about making the playoffs. If they don't make the playoffs this is a very negative type move.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 How could you possibly know that? I bet they would have, if Hamels were to waive his no-trade. Let's hope! That would be very exciting. I'm speculating, we'll go over this when he gets traded and we see the package
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Ben Badler In 2011 Blue Jays international scouts signed Roberto Osuna, Miguel Castro, Jesus Tinoco, Jairo Labourt, Dawel Lugo, Alberto Tirado. Decent!
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Natural gas confirmed for 2018? I'd figure they use natural gas already. Heating the stadium with electricity can't be efficient.
