L54 Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 What I'm reading in this thread is that Paul Molitor should be MOY.
pickoff22 Verified Member Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 gibby was handed a team. He did not get the best he could have from the PRE TRADE team and POST TRADE he has done nothing spectacular, just managed So when the team under-performs he is to blame, when it over-performs he deserves zero credit. Interesting.
Trouba95 Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 So when the team under-performs he is to blame, when it over-performs he deserves zero credit. Interesting. How about Francis vs Raburn in CLE? He doesn't do matchups as he should.
pickoff22 Verified Member Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 price is awesome but not the best in the AL He's not far off at this stage. If he closes out the year with 4 stellar starts and Sale/Keuchel falter a bit, he'll be right in the mix.
pickoff22 Verified Member Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 How about Francis vs Raburn in CLE? He doesn't do matchups as he should. Um, that is a very random example to pull up. I can come up with many examples over the course of the year where he *may* not have used the ideal matchup. But the same can be said of every single manager. Gibby has been good.

Sorry...but will never agree.
Candide Verified Member Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 i hope he wins. he seems like a good guy. winning manager of the year is like graduating from harvard - it's a lock to set you up for next job, irrespective of how incompetent you might actually be.
LGBJ29 Verified Member Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 Sorry...but will never agree. Well if I ever need evidence Gibby was doing a good job here it is
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 I'd vote for Girardi personally
art_vandelay275 Verified Member Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 And the Royals last year with Yost Jays are proof a talented team can overcome a dum for a manager.
candymartinez Verified Member Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 Look at every message board (save Baltimore) and they rip thier managers. Every manager makes stupid decisions. Don't know if Gibbons is any worse than anyone.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 So he's Cito Gaston. I hope he has back-to-back success like Cito too. Yes. He is a less stubborn, more redneck version of Cito. As long as the Jays roster is this talented, he won't hurt them.

Gibby isn't perfect, but, he's pretty steady and generally avoids doing something colossally stupid. When a player earns his trust he seems to lean on them too much sometimes and avoids guys he doesn't have that relationship with yet. Seems like a steady voice in the clubhouse who encourages players to police themselves which can backfire depending on who is in the clubhouse. Seems fine to me, but, I don't expect any Manager to be a sabr guy yet nor do I expect ideal lineup optimization.
mtljaysfan Verified Member Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 For me Gibby is a mediocre manager at best. The team's winning in spite of him.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 I'd vote for Girardi personally after last weekends series you'd vote Giradi? I don't think so..
BlueBirdBro Verified Member Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 As if a guy like Gibby with his pro level lean game needs your awards
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 So he's Cito Gaston. I hope he has back-to-back success like Cito too. Remember when Cito went from being a God in '92 & 93. To really sucking in '94? I wonder what happened?
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 Yeah, he was mad at Lind for not getting him an RBI when it wasn't 100% that he'd score and the run didn't matter. Yeah, Lind would've easily been gunned on the play.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 How about Francis vs Raburn in CLE? He doesn't do matchups as he should. Canadian innings for days. Give the 20,000 diehards who haven't been to a game in 22 years something to look forward to.
Belliss101 Old-Timey Member Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 I've got a great idea...lets keep Sanchez in for 2 innings. An even better idea...lets keep Sanchez in with runners on second and third. Why do we need to put in a strike out guy??? And oh eh...why should we put Simmons on base with 1 out to force a double play???
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 great job leaving in the ground ball pitcher when you needed a strikeout to stay alive.
Professional Hitter Verified Member Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 guessing this will be a busy thread tonight...
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted September 16, 2015 Author Posted September 16, 2015 Gibby is the worst manager of the year. Keeps losing games by making decisions a high school coach could make better.
FrozenRopes Verified Member Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 Gibbons goes out, Osuna is ready and he leaves AS in. Wear this one you tool.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted September 16, 2015 Author Posted September 16, 2015 Why is Gibby now trying to pitch Sanchez multiple innings. It has blown up each time he has tried it. 1 inning as a reliever, especially if everyone else is available.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 Extend Alex, and Gibby stays forever. Just remember that. Do the right thing, Shapiro.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 Not only does Sanchez not K very many hitters, but Simmons is one of the best in the league at making contact. Sanchez is an extreme GB pitcher, and Simmons hits the ball on the ground 55% of the time. Infield has no choice but to be brought in. How on earth is there not someone on the coaching staff who says "Hey John, this might not be a good idea".
